Afternoon traffic.

I always wondered why this is done anymore.  Years ago, I did not go anywhere without 6ABC on in my car on the radio.  Before buying a car once, I ever made sure the station came in.  With the new cars and apps, I just thought this TV report was useless.  I hope Jess woks behind the scenes or reports somehow.

Watching the 10AM show and they have 3 anchors.  Nydia has to stand on the far end of the desk to do her stories.  Looks silly to me.   Why didn't they build a desk big enough?

Btw, I saw Matt Pellman doing weather on part of the morning show today.

Former "AM Philadelphia" and "Inside Story" host Wally Kennedy has died. He was a versatile broadcaster who was exceptional in conducting live interviews with celebrities and people from all walks of life. After he left 6ABC in 2004, he was an anchor at KYW Newsradio until 2019. He will be missed.

Does he have a Meteorology degree? If so, I wonder if they are testing to see if he could replace Chris.

I don't think so, but, even if he doesn't, he could still be a good last minute fill-in, considering how much time he spends in front of the green screen.

We've got a new reporter on our hands! Charles Watson. Can't find anything about his past, but here's a video with him. He's so new they don't even have his bio on the site yet.

Adweek/TV Spy is reporting that Charles Watson is moving on to WNBC in New York.

Okay. What the heck happened to Jessica Boyington? She just up and vanished one day and was replaced by someone else. Did she get the Apody treatment? I hope not. I wish WPVI was more forthcoming about what happens with it’s talent.

I’m pleasantly surprised. Action News is known for not hiring from other stations in the market. But I love Jessica’s work. They made a great choice.

According to Cecily Tynan's replies on her Facebook share of this post, she's replacing Charles Watson who recently left for WNBC New York.

That went out the door, when they hired Julian Mele then Jessica Boyington, Now Jessica Kartalija. Expect the unexpected.

Jessica Kartalija is great pick up for WPVI! She was part of the 6ABC float during today's Thanksgiving parade.

Pick ups historically from other stations is rare for 'PVI, but not entirely unprecedented. In addition to the aforementioned Jillian Mele and Jessica Boyington from WCAU, Steve Levy joined from KYW in the 1970s.

Also, Jeff Skversky and Jim O'Brien freelanced at WTXF and 'CAU respectively before joining 'PVI. In the case of Jim O'Brien, 'CAU passed him over for a full-time role, and the rest is history!

Speaking of Jeff Skversky.. has he popped up anywhere? Boy did he bomb in Detroit.

He was a guest on Fox 29's Phantastic Sports Show one night in September.  I haven't seen him since.

Seems like Robert Johnson of sister station WTVD is going to be living out his dreams of being a meteorologist for Action news. I've watched him. and he's a solid pick. They even did a story about him back in 2018.

Here's his YouTube channel with his work, only up to 2019 though.

Wonder if that period where they were rotating Brittany and Peyton doing 10am and 12noon was a tryout to promote one of them there permanently, with the other and Robert being the weekenders.

Having 4 meteorologists for weekdays only seems excessive to me, unless there’s an upcoming departure we don’t know about. 6 is known for hiring people’s replacements before they’re gone.

I'm still baffled by the way things played out with Chris Sowers.  That was such a huge loss to the station.  I was thinking that this weekend as I was watching the news before church.  I haven't really warmed up much to Peyton.

No one knows what happens behind the scenes, but if he knew his job basically was what it was, part time with no meaningful prospect to be full time let alone off weekends, his decision makes perfect sense. He got a nice weekday, full-time gig. Why the decision was made to keep him in that role is something no one will know, nor should we. Personnel matters are what they are.

They long had four weekday full timers, and clearly that’s where the management felt it was worth investing resources. One was admittedly the built in coverage in mornings while handling traffic when not covering, but it got them what they obviously felt was a good setup. Five full timers and one part time, or four full time and two part time isn’t a meaningful difference outside of what needs to be done to make balance sheets work. Either gives them flexibility given the sheer number of hours in an average week they pump out.

The new guy gets a dream gig, Sowers got a nice evening gig. Win win.

Congratulations to him! I knew he would be ending up at WPVI eventually, especially after seeing that he had left WTVD recently.
