I really don't see what value Gayle King actually brings to CBS News. Everything she has hosted, from her morning show on OWN to CBS This Morning to CBS Mornings to that awful primetime CNN show, has pulled in terrible ratings.

So it is being reported that Gayle King praised the new far right MAGA boss at the CBS town hall. Does she have no shame? If it's about money i'm sure Oprah would be fine lending her some money so she doesn't have to continue embarrassing herself hosting a morning show that keeps hitting record low ratings with her as host. Give it up Gayle, you failed at every TV job you had. It should be a blessing a far right disgrace wants to get rid of you because nobody is watching the show you host, yet she is doing whatever she can to please Bari to keep her overpaid job. So pathetic

She also criticized "leakers". What kind of journalist is against whistle blowers? A "journalist" who works for CBS "News" I guess.

So Gayle King is in the wrong for not wanting what she says behind closed doors to go public? That's a wild take.

Ikr? But she has to know this comes with the territory of being on TV. But let's not pretends she is not friends with one of the most powerful women in the world. She can get what she wants, hell if I was friends with Oprah I use her as leverage too. I'm surprised Oorsh doesn't have a stake in Paramount.

I could appreciate this if she herself wasn’t a journalist. I think she probably understands that too and her comments was more in jest than actual expectations or anger that it would leak.

Norah O’Donnell to host ‘CBS Mornings’ next week — sparking chatter of a possible return after long hiatus: sources

https://nypost.com/2026/02/17/media/norah-odonnell-to-host-cbs-mornings-next-week-sparking-chatter-of-a-possible-return/

A return (if true) would be great. Norah never should've been moved off of mornings in the first place.

IF that were to happen, would Norah want to rearrange her life again and move back from DC?

It’s the Post, so “sources” are about as real as unicorns having a party with Bigfoot.

Didn’t NY Post last week report that Gayle is looking to take Savannah’s spot when her CBS contract is up?

Oh probably. They like to invent lots of fanciful stories.

Does Gayle refuse to cover stories about what public figures say behind closed doors? People are leaking what she says because the stuff she is saying behind closed doors is disgraceful and newsworthy. It's newsworthy an anchor of the morning show is praising her new far right boss despite the fact that she has ruined CBS News journalistic credibility and attacking those who are leaking stories about how the news operation is being destroyed. If she had any journalistic integrity she would have left the network months ago, instead she is pathetically trying to get her contract renewed by praising the new MAGA boss at town halls and telling CBS News staff upset about the changes that if they don't like it at CBS they don't have to be there. Most CBS News staffers don't have the luxury of making millions off of being oprah's friend so leaving the network has real financial consequences, they should be praised for exposing the changes at CBS News not scolded for leaking stories. The high profile people who can afford to leave (Gayle King, Norah O'Donnell, Tony Dokoupil, etc..) but are instead choosing to stay and do everything they can to appease the new far right owner are a total disgrace.

The Independent spoke to some CBS News insiders about Gayle's town hall performance

CBS News staffers ‘pretty salty’ over Gayle King’s passionate defense of Bari Weiss: ‘Utter disappointment’ | The Independent

"According to one CBS News insider, King has “never been a leader” and the network “is in dire need of someone the staff can rally around.” Additionally, the insider felt that King just “wants to stay relevant” and remain a CBS Mornings anchor.

" She’s not going to say anything against the person who will determine her job status. This was her only play,” the insider further noted.

On top of that, a network staffer stated that much of the newsroom was “pretty salty” over King’s performance, an assessment that two other network sources agreed with.

Stating that King “started off almost protective” of the CBS News staff with her speech, the staffer said “it devolved into such an utter disappointment” because she “made it about her not liking the fact that people are talking to the press about her future at CBS News” and forgot about the “substance of people’s grievances and fears” at the moment.

Reacting to King's statement that staffers unhappy with Weiss's editorial vision could just leave, the network employee said many staff members don’t have that luxury.

“Have a little consideration for CBS staffers, Gayle. You’ve earned at least 200 million dollars since joining CBS News and earn millions more from what Oprah pays you to run Oprah Daily. Zero percent of us can just walk away and go back to our Manhattan penthouse to do something else,” they stated.

“It just seemed like what started as a rousing speech then became all about her and the press and telling people to leave if they don’t like things like Weiss muzzling stories like CECOT and her pro-MAGA agenda at Evening News,” the staffer added. “I know Gayle knows being on CBS Mornings is what keeps her relevant, but we’re talking about the integrity of our news here.”

Gayle King will remain at CBS Mornings.

This woman is so damn insufferable. The speculation “of her demise” was coming from the CBS Broadcasting Center which she seemed to understand fairly well when she was arguing with paparazzi outside the building a few months ago. Her statement is true to form with her pathetic character.

CBS has blown up every element of the morning show since "Early" gave way to CTM/Mornings- the studio (from the unique setup from the Charlie/Erica/Gayle days, to Times Square, to whatever they have now), the "news is back in morning news" format to the same thing Today/GMA are doing... The one thing they have not traded out is Gayle.

I'm not saying that doing so will send them on a rocket ship in the ratings, but you've swapped out every other element more than once...

At this pace, in 2027, CBS Mornings will be on CBS, CBSN, Paramount+, CNN and Headline News and the Today show will still be destroying them in the ratings.

Guess I'm in the minority of not hating Gayle. She has her ways about her but she's not all that bad.

Perhaps I'm overstating Gayle's importance but isn't she the identifying factor of the show? A lot of people know what That CBS Morning Show is because Oprah's friend Gayle King is on. Replacing her with a CBS random doesn't carry that same name recognition factor that Robin Roberts, fomerly Hoda -- and especially now --- Savannah have.

I’m certain most people know her as Oprah’s best friend more than the morning show she’s on. If as many people knew or cared about her as she seems to think then it would reflect in the show’s viewership.

And it has not.

I don’t have any particularly strong issue with her other than that she’s always seemed pompous and full of herself. Her statement on her contract is embarrassingly petulant for a 70 year old woman, especially when she seemed incredibly insecure about her own standing just a few months ago.

Oprah has hardly been in the forefront of culture for years now. She pops up here and there but is mostly out of the eye. There’s no way to assess who does or doesn’t make the primary association to being Oprah’s friend and it’s wise not to assume others think the same way as oneself on a wide

scale.

One can know of and “care” (like, dislike) a public figure, in this case the media, without being a regular viewer. The two are not inextricably linked.

Exactly. if she is the face of the show, she should be fired because the show has been hitting record low ratings with her as the "star". I know there are tons of egos in television news, and there are far worse people on TV news than her (Everyone at FOX News, Joe & Mika, Megyn Kelly, etc..) but she is beyond pompous and full of herself despite failing miserably in the ratings at every single show she has hosted. She's one of the biggest ratings failures in television and she thinks she is some mega star. The reason there is so much speculation about her leaving is because she is extremely over paid hosting a horribly rated show while the network she works for is doing massive cost cutting. If CBS Mornings was doing well there wouldn't be all these stories about her future in jeopardy. She then pathetically tries to save her job by posting selfies with FOX News primetime hosts and praising the far right boss who is censoring stories and turning CBS News into a propaganda outlet. She is one of the most well known personalities at CBS News because all the high profile and respected people CBS had have departed the network
