November 2014 Sweeps Results

Looks like Detroit gets to start the sweeps results thread this time. The 2013 numbers are in parenthesis. The sweeps period ends today but WDIV did the one day early thing last year as well so the comparison should be pretty exact.

Mornings: WDIV is claiming to be a solid second at 6am but they didn't specify where. They cited a 2.0/13 SHR in A25-54 and a 2.6/16 SHR in W25-54, so those may be the 2nd place numbers.

4pm:

WDIV News 6.4 / 15 SHR (6.8 / 17 SHR)

WJBK Judge Judy 3.8 / 9 SHR (4.2 / 11 SHR)

WXYZ The Now Detroit 2.8 / 6 SHR (DR. OZ 3.1 / 8 SHR)

5pm:

WDIV News 7.7 / 15 SHR (7.5 / 16 SHR)

WXYZ News 6.4 / 12 SHR (6.1 / 13 SHR)

WJBK News 5.2 / 10 SHR (6.0 / 13 SHR)

6pm:

WDIV News 9.1 / 16 SHR (8.7 / 17 SHR)

WXYZ News 8.3 / 15 SHR (7.3 / 14 SHR)

WJBK News 4.4 / 8 SHR (5.6 / 11 SHR)

WDIV gets a 9.7 / 16 SHR from 7-8pm beating WJBK and WXYZ combined.

10pm:

WJBK News 6.2 / 10 SHR (8.0 / 13 SHR)

WMYD -- Not mentioned but given that it was supposed to target the same audience as WJBK maybe they got some of the 1.8 / 3 SHR decline that WJBK experienced.

11pm:

WDIV News 8.0 / 15 SHR (8.2 / 16 SHR)

WXYZ News 7.1 / 13 SHR (7.6 / 15 SHR)

WJBK News 4.3 / 8 SHR (5.1 / 10 SHR)

Jimmy Fallon gets a 4.6 / 11 SHR on WDIV and is #1 in many key demos.

Here's the WDIV release:

What happened to WJLA in the 4-6pm block? I thought they were in 2nd before?

Can't find the official numbers yet but it looks as if WMC took a lead over WREG this period, based on a recent promo. They state that they are the "most watched evening news".

Update...looks like WMC only won one timeslot. Otherwise, another big win for WREG...

Weekday Mornings: WREG - 8.3 / WMC - 6.1 / WHBQ - 5.0 / WATN - 1.5

Weekdays at 9am: WREG - 5.8 / WMC - 4.1 / WATN - 0.8

Weekdays at Noon: WREG - 8.9 / WMC - 4.6

Weekdays at 4pm: WREG - 8.0 / WMC - 3.7

Weekdays at 5pm: WREG - 8.9 / WMC - 8.3 / WHBQ - 3.8 / WATN - 3.4

Weekdays at 6pm: WMC - 10.3 / WREG - 9.1 / WATN - 2.5

Weekdays at 10pm: WREG - 12.2 / WMC - 8.9 / WHBQ - 2.8 / WATN - 2.2

Saturday Mornings: WREG - 5.8 / WMC - 4.3

Saturdays at 10pm: WREG - 10.0 / WMC - 6.6 / WHBQ - 1.9 / WATN - 1.9

Sunday Mornings: WREG - 6.3 / WHBQ - 1.5

Looks like if Cox misfires with WHBQ, third place might become WATN's by default.

Has any station seen dramatic ratings rises or falls in recent years simply because of new ownership?

I bet KTVK may have taken a big hit in this sweeps period. But considering these sub-par results from the Fox affiliates I wouldn't be surprised if it was close.

In Buffalo...

WGRZ has emerged as the big-time winner in a November sweeps period punctuated by an epic snowstorm (which greatly inflated all the numbers).

WKBW notably had tripled its audience in morning drive during the week of the storm itself.

What happened to WIVB? Has the newscast gotten stale?

Most of WITI's ratings gains have been since ownership shifted to Tribune, but there hasn't really been any difference in terms of content like the cutbacks they saw when Local TV bought it.

KFMB is running promos saying they are #1 in the Mornings, 11am, 5, 6:30 and 11pm. I haven't seen the numbers since they rarely get published here. I'm guessing that 2nd place was back and forth between KNSD and KGTV.

That, and fallout from the WISH-TV debacle that resulted in a revaluation of the LIN-MG merger.

WIVB concluded this period by losing their executive news producer, Aaron Mason, to KB as their new assistant news director. (Mason was under contract until the end of the month, and elected to honor that contract through.) This after losing both nightside reporter Ed Drantch and digital director Eli George to WKBW in similar positions.

It's been touched upon quite a bit in the "Scripps overhauls WKBW" thread.

I wouldn't be so sure! The October ratings for Phoenix show that KTVK continues to be strong in the mornings and weaker in the evenings. Usually, the November ratings are not released to the general public for Phoenix.

I don't think it's just Sinclair. WJLA's been on an early evening decline since Oprah retired and their product growing stale doesn't help.

It didn't help that WJLA stuck with Anderson Cooper's daytime strip longer than they should have... that show killed them at 4pm.

W*USA bringing Bill Lord aboard could be a game changer. Like his management style or not, it is the smartest hire Gannett has made for that station in years.
