The only thing I don't love about the 10pm open is that there isn't a shot of the GG Bridge in it for once. But otherwise, really nicely done. I'd love to see them build some bumpers and other animations in this style.

The Mornings on 2 and Noon open only show the GG bridge. The other opens show the Bay Bridge, Downtown SF, the Pyramid and Coit Tower

Right, I'm aware of those sights. I'm just pointing out that for the first time in close to 20 years since

, the Golden Gate Bridge isn't in the 10pm open. I always thought it was particularly unique to KTVU and the Ten O'Clock News, as you don't see the GG Bridge featured as prominently or as tightly associated with a station's branding on competing outlets. ....But I suppose that's being too pedantic. The point still remains that these are still some excellent opens!

Tribune station. they used to have them as part of their coverage when FOX 2 was COX.

I'm aware KTXL is a Tribune station. KTXL makes the more logical sense since FOX has a working relationship with Tribune, not to mention that KTXL is a FOX affiliate...

KTVU and KCRA have a direct fiber line between them. The two stations co-financed it together before KTVU went O&O. For KTVU to get something from KTXL, it would require the more circuitous methods (FTP, Newsedge, etc.) Besides, the people at KTVU think KCRA is a better station to partner with, much to KTXL's chagrin.

just like when KXTV keeps using KGO not because they are owned by each other but because they both carry ABC for some reason.

There's always a few odd couples partnerships between stations. WBAL (NBC) gets footage from WBOC (CBS/Fox) when there's a story on the Eastern Shore that WJZ doesn't usually get despite being a CBS affiliates. I think the partnership is necessary as there's no real NBC affiliate in Salisbury. WRDE doesn't count considering their news is outsourced and there's only two local reporters.

During statewide political debates WBAL will usually host while WHAG and WBOC send a reporter to ask the occasional question.

This isn't necessarily relevant to the topic at hand but I thought I'd add my 2¢ when it comes to odd news partnerships.

Even though KDFW 4 is airing LIVE! with Kelly and Michael at 9:00 a.m., why can't then expand it to the 9:00 a.m. hour and have LIVE! on at 10:00 a.m. ?

WTVT 13 currently does that.

Maybe their contract with Disney isn't up for them to move Live! OR maybe there no pressure from News/Corp for them to expand into 9AM time slot.

I agree. Although I say give it time. I could see them renaming the 7-10 portion in a few years.

No way in hell. It's been called Mornings on 2 since it debuted in, what, 1991? In fact, just in February, they renamed the 4:30-7 slot from the KTVU Morning News to Mornings on 2 for simplicity's sake. Calling it anything else just because other Fox O&Os call their shows something else would defeat the purpose.

What's more interesting, though, is to note the actual format changes that have been happening, especially in the morning show and the new 4 p.m. show. Before Fox, the morning show was the typical lather, rinse, repeat of news, weather, and traffic every 15 minutes. Now, the show is trying to become more fluid with talent personality flowing through, which can be seen in moving Gasia to the mornings, Sal's weird music requests in commercial bumpouts, and more feature segments in the later hours. And with this announcement that Mike Mibach and Sal will be anchoring, that signifies that this 9am hour might be even more different than the rest of the morning hours and more like the 4pm's studio-based interviews and such.

The weekend edition has a light tone of the "LA" feel. They sit on a couch and the people running audio are slowly playing music instead of the Fox o&o theme but very stale choice of music. So I guess they are getting the slow hang of it. Also weekends sometimes have segments. Lol.

I doubt it. FOX has really toned down how much they're trying to push the corporate initiatives at KTVU.

I have been pleasantly surprised about that. I think they know that making it look too much like the other Fox O&O's is going to backfire on them.

Case in point: They used to have the standard Fox O&O looking graphics for their opens but now they're instead using opens created by their (what's left) in-house team that are definitely more toned down than the earlier versions. I think KMSP is doing something similar too.
