KTVU Branding Changes

This new 9am show should be...interesting. It looks like they've converted the sales staff conference room on the upper floor into a window studio with the view of the Jack London Square waterfront and Alameda Island. From what I've seen, it also looks like they took the old surfboard desk that was in the newsroom out of storage and are using it as a desk.

Looks great!

Why can't they use this for the entire morning show? It looks better than the damp main studio that they use for the evening newscasts.

Yeah, that looks awesome! It reminds me at what they used to do at LWT and Carlton down at the South Bank studios in the 90s- have a studio with a giant window facing a river/bay. I also like the Mornings on 2 graphics on the monitors, very orange juicy.

I agree. They delayed the debut of this studio because of the fire coverage the past 2 days.

They showed a behind the scenes look on Periscope yesterday that they are still going to remodel upstairs and create an interview area. I don't understand why they can't use their other studio to make another set, then again they still use it for other production uses. The ending shot was a bit too wide seeing the cubicles.

It does have a "Good Day" Feel with it being a light upbeat newscast now that they have segments. Such a rarity in the Bay Area since they want straight to the point news.

Oh, also funny how they thrown in some bootleg karaoke instrumentals they use on their bumps and teases lol.

Production Music probably.

Production Music probably.

A horribly instrumental sounding of

Drake - Just Hold On Were Going Home

Pharrell - Happy

Avicii - Don't Wake Me Up

Then the other 2 bumps and teases were the first generation of the Good Day Bumper cut (drums and guitar) of the FOX O&O theme

This backdrop is new. It looks like a weird mashup of the Fox graphics and the old KTVU look, which is to say that I think it actually looks pretty good. Oddly enough, the rest of the full screens are the same. (Also, a new mic flag...)

I'm surprised they didn't incorporate the O&O mic flags.

Mmm, yes. It would definitely make sense at this point, after months of obvious signs of moving away from the standard O&O look, that they would suddenly adopt a mic flag design that matches the stuff they have been avoiding.

The new backgrounds and new mic flags aren't really a coincidence...

I imagine they would make a great deal of money if they ever sell the building.

Props for creativity and letting the sales guys make some sacrifice.

Wonder how it will look during an El Nino winter...and sound with the pelting of rain.

I wonder how it will look with a couple hundred greenpeace protesters back there.

Kinda surprised that no one has brought up this video of KTVU covering "Talk Like a Pirate Day." Because SF media muckraker Rich Lieberman has gone absolutely apoplectic over it.

Arrgh, I don't see why Lieberman needs to overreact over something stupid like that--oh wait that's right, he's Lieberman.

Also, that pirate video was shit, even for a cheesy news promo.

He didn't need to, but he did made a point. KTVU is all about seriousness in its news product and this one promo or segment just claims as to how serious (or how not serious) KTVU's news product really is now with FOX ownership.

I'm sorry to say, but the only way that this debacle that's happening behind-the-scenes at KTVU 2 is to be fixed, is to have the station be sold back to Cox Media Group. FOX has really ruined KTVU and only Cox Media Group has the power to run such a station like KTVU.

I will be dying to wait and overjoying on the day that KTVU Channel 2 is back under Cox Media Group ownership.

Speculation is one thing. Ridiculous delusions are another.

Lieberman is a hack. He's never worked in TV news; he knows nothing about TV news; and he's wrong about what he writes half the time. He hates KTVU and KRON far more than the other stations for reasons unseen, and anytime a station does something that rubs him the wrong way, he doesn't drop it as if he expects the respective news directors to personally call him and beg for his forgiveness. He writes terribly mean and sexist things about female on-air personnel across the board, and he's always pining for the 'good ol' days' of Dave McElhatton and all old white men doing the news, which — newsflash, that's not going to happen, and not everything was always better in the past. And what's even more infuriating is that he thinks people talking shit about him is somehow validating everything he says.

With that said, I don't think this pirate video is that big of a deal. They're clearly trying to unstiffen the morning shows, especially the weekend one— okay, fine. Sure, maybe this pirate thing was a little misguided, but it's nothing worth losing sleep over. And the people wishing Cox would buy the station back (as if) or those with the strong anti-Fox rhetoric must be watching for different reasons. Since Fox has taken over, they're noticeably reduced the amount of unnecessary crime coverage and have instead focused more on personal, human-interest-type stories and local government; they've added an extra 2.5 hours of live news on weekdays; they still operate a bureau in the South Bay; and they still have 4-5 reporters going live every night. I don't think Fox is always the devil it's made out to be.

What makes standardization so unpopular with KTVU when even many Fox affiliates have done it successfully?

Because people in the BA would like to think they still live in a quaint utopia isolated from the rest of the real world.

Sure 20 years ago the BA newscast had a much different feel from the rest of the western u.s. newscast. However the consultants and bean counters moved in like everywhere else.

SF blended into Fresno and everything was suddenly the same everywhere.

Wait till they are forced to split the beloved 415 area code...the fools will scream like stuck piggies.

I was just reading the blog for the first time in a year and realized it from the first post that he was a racist/sexist. The thing I don't get is if he hates a station so much why does he spend so much time watching it?

He 52 living with mom and is a self styled Herb Caen(Long dead newspaper guy) of the decade. He has his blog, he is kinda funny and neurotic.

Raciest and Sexist?

He needs to work harder on that ,because that has become a term of endearment lately in CA, and he does not yet have that much street cred. to claim R%S.
