MD TV 390 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 So the channel's full name is Microsoft NOW. 1 3
G2000 37 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 (edited) The MS which we know was originally referring to Microsoft will now be short for My Source. Edited August 18, 2025 by G2000 1 1
Geoffrey 960 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 The new name is incredibly clunky. What's the point of keeping the MS? How will it be pronounced? Will there also be a Mr. Now? The logo looks like a 1990s search engine. "News, opinion, world"... World what? World news? Redudant? It's a poor attempt at a backronym. Can't imagine the employees there are impressed. 1 2
NowBergen 924 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 It does take away a certain authoritarian's nickname of the channel. 5
nathannah 2792 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 This name gives off 'bad screaming Indian news channel vibes', especially with the world part, which we all know this organization is going to cover with just Reuters video; you won't be seeing an "MSNOW London Bureau". As I said about the Tampa station naming situation, branding people are really bad at this lately. 2 2

Action Newsroom 1376 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 It's nice enough a name. It'll take getting used to. It could be worse(/better). I like what it stands for. (things I'll tell myself for a while). 2
MidwestTV 1358 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 Oh look, another news branding with "NOW" in it. How original. 3
DJonNews 104 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 (edited) This screams "rushed." They want it to be known as "My Source for News, Opinion, and the World," but those minute details alone don't make that name choice make any sense. Besides, most people won't even know that it's still the news channel they've come to expect at first until the channel beats them over the head with it in promos for several months, if not a whole year. If that's the end result and the viewers still don't come, then that suggests that they're failing at brand awareness. And after I typed this, I read an article detailing what Hollywood Reporter editors thought about the name change. Not even they knew what Versant was going for with this half-hearted attempt at a rebrand post-spinoff. Edited August 18, 2025 by DJonNews 2

AA55 41 Posted August 28, 2025 Posted August 28, 2025 Does anyone know what will happen to all the MSNBC sets currently in use at 30 ROCK? Hopefully WNBC can expand into one of the sets. Currently their shoe box set is mildly underwhelming. 1

WNBC's original studio was split into two - '3B East' for them and '3B West' for sister station WNJU. If anything they could either give Nightly their own studio again or rent it out to others. 1

I highly doubt NBC will reverse the changes in 3B with WNBC and T47 splitting it and having some common off camera areas in 3B in addition to the shared newsroom/operations on the second floor. As NBC expands NBC News Now more studio space may be needed. With the decline of outside street side studios (crowds are way down except for concerts or a high profile guest) they can also follow ABC and CBS with converting 3A into a shared Today/Nightly News set. Note for many years in the 60s and 70s, they shared a studio. I'm sure the suits and facility staff are looking at the options and don't expect it to be an empty studio forever or one they lease out. 1
Georgie56 3661 Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 MSNBC has fired contributor Matt Dowd for his comments on today’s assassination of Charlie Kirk. 1

Actions like this is just going to drive more of MSNBC's core audience away from the network and towards these type of streaming shows. 2

It is simply unacceptable that a commentator would use subjective and negative phrases to describe the deceased, especially when he was shot just minutes prior. He could have reserved that language for another time and it wouldn't have been so controversial. But the fact he did not showed poor judgement and the network ultimately acted appropriately in its response to it. 2 1

There are lots of horrible hateful political figures all over the world, not being allowed to point out the fact that they spew hate or do hateful things when they die makes zero sense to me and I have not seen this applied to other horrible people who have been killed. All the comments I have read from actual MSNBC viewers are outraged that he was fired. Viewers are also upset at how much coverage MSNBC has given this compared to the horrific school shooting that happened on the same day. Under Rebecca Kutler MSNBC seems so disconnected from its audience. Edited September 11, 2025 by Reweivvt88 2 2

Under Rebecca Kutler MSNBC seems so disconnected from its audience. Although I personally agree with what Dowd said, there is a time to say that. Minutes after his shooting wasn't the time when (and still as of 6 am Thursday morning) we do not have any suspect as the shooter and what that person's motivation is. The more that is disclosed of how professional of a hit this was, puts a lot of doubt in mind. It also goes both ways. Folks on Fox News are pointing fingers without knowing the motivation, and we have a certain dictatorial type leader going on a bender video blaming the "radical left" and referring to a war. Those as well as at least one GOP member of Congress statements are equally wrong yet you can be assured none of them will be fired or criticized by segments of the population. Their comments were equally inappropriate. And many were lacking in comments or empathy when members of the other party have been assassinated (e.g. Minnesota) or attempted (e.g. Pennsylvania). Political violence is wrong no matter any way someone tries to justify it. Sadly, some people's messages including dear leader only incite than condemn. Dowd could have phrased it differently and been okay. 1

HanSolo 469 Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Divisive is perhaps the most mild way he could have phrased it. What is the magic time we can state with clarity the truth of a situation? The bigger issue is the abject failure to adequately cover yet another school shooting. That is the epidemic in the country. Innocent kids being shot day after day after day in classrooms from coast to coast. The kids deserve far more of our attention, but our collective priorities are warped. 2 3
MorningNews 1711 Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Dowd was correct in what he said but the timing was undoubtedly bad. There’s still so much we don’t know about the situation even at this hour so speculation should be avoided in general and MSNBC was right to determine that the speculation in that manner violated their standards. 1
HanSolo 469 Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 What’s amazing is the likes of Scott Jennings and pretty much the entirety of the Fox News primetime lineup indulge in wild speculation daily, but one commentator over at another building is booted for pointing out that someone factually trafficked in heated, inflammatory rhetoric as his entire public persona. 5

Isn’t Jennings suspended from CNN (hopefully permanently)
