We are now in the month of March and I have a feeling that KABC’s new set will launch on Sunday, March 15th, which is the same day that the Oscars will air across the ABC network and we all know that they tend to make big changes and announcements around Oscars season, so let’s see what will happen.

I wanna see this set, I hope it out does WABC.

I happened to tune into Eyewitness Newsmakers with Marc Brown on Sunday at 6:30pm. They were on a hard set, not the green screen desk/set that EWN has been using since they decommissioned their old set. The shots were tight, but the set looked to be legit. The vibes in the limited capacity I saw were very LA. Reminds me of KTLAs set.

I happened to catch Eyewitness Newsmakers, as well.  This is in all likelihood the soon-to-be debuted news set.  In the background, on the right hand side of my photograph, there appears to be an LED banner of "Eyewitness News."

It's absolutely part of the new set. You can see the striking blue floor off the ledge.

Based on what I have seen from Newsmakers, it certainly looks like a nice upgrade from their former set!  It is in a rather large studio space, so I am eager to see what else they have done with any other beautiful changes to it.

Wow the new KABC studio is going to look really nice! I'm excited to see the rest of it! Based on what we are seeing thus far, there are some elements and motifs that look kinda similar to WABC, especially with the new darker blue colors. I now wonder if its the same company that designed WABC's beautiful set.

So something to keep in mind -

WABC has 3 spaces that they use on 4.
The main studio, the much smaller interview set, and a soft set for one-on-one set ups and the like.
KABC needs to incorporate all of this into one space - which they can do with their larger studio - but overall, WABC has much more flexibility thanks to their new studios and spaces which were purpose built for their need.

Speaking of...

1. The Ross Artimo cameras really add something to wide shots - and are cool to watch in action.

2. I am honestly surprised Charlie Van Dyke hasn't retired from voiceover work yet.

This new set is wonderful and reminds me of KTLA's set. Matter of fact, it's on par with their set. There are some things that feel grander than what KTLA has like the AccuWeather center and the big Circle 7 on the floor, but KABC always takes it a notch higher when it comes to certain aesthetics. The set here is the best in the ABC O&O group and I can't wait to see how the vibe of the set will be during the afternoon/evening shows and the early AM news.

"... and ✨STAIRS✨"

This is very blue and New York-coded. Southern California feels like warm tones. IMO KTLA is still the best in the market.

This set is pretty good.  I concur that there's a bit too much blue for a Southern California set.  But honestly this beats my expectations for what replaces the 2015 set (which I still would rank is my all time favorite for KABC).  I would definitely say it's now easily the best in the local ABC portfolio, as was the 2015 KABC set.

The camera tracking needs some work as it's a bit too wobbly at times.

On a different note, I still miss the KABC music cuts.

Charlie Van Dyke is sounding horse. I think it's time he's finally replaced.

The grays and blues of this set are similar to KNBC's set which I don't like either.

If only they would use the stairs. I hate when they're added as a set element, but not actually included within production.

With the music, set and logo, it feels like ABC is unifying under the NYC aesthetic, which I can't say that I like much.

Not seen in my or the other posted video, they did use the stairs as a presentation spot for a reporter. Could see the co-anchors starting up there, as well.

Well done KABC - has a grand feel to it but enough dimension that it doesn't feel cavernous. I like the warm elements, sure would be nice if there were more of them but it's in the right direction after so much all cold white and blue on sets. There was a nice shot going into the break of the anchors walking from the stand up shot to the desk.

They took a wide shot at the end of the 3pm. Anchor Marc CR said the new studio is 3x larger than their old studio.

Looks pretty nice… and blue…. Really blue… hope you can swim blue.

Also somebody get that circle 7 on the floor an ABC logo…. Kidding. Nice to see at least one without it for a change.
