Here's something new, interesting, and unique.

Entravision has partnered with Hemisphere Media Group to launch... WAPA Orlando.

Yes, the same brand that gives you WAPA-TV and Puerto Rican flair to bring its news and programming to a growing Puerto Rican population in Central Florida, launched yesterday on WOTF Channel 26 (replacing Grit), which will be complete with locally-targeted newscasts (NotiCentro Orlando at morning and midday at launch, with evening and late night newscasts to come over time; produced in San Juan), and focused on Orlando's Puerto Rican population.

This is a huge deal, especially for me, since I'm half Puerto Rican. This also gives another option for Orlando since WTMO carries several segments during their newscasts focused on the latest news from Puerto Rico as well, and frequently feature reports from sister station WKAQ-TV at times.

Puerto Rico is becoming more represented in the Orlando TV market, and I'm quite happy about this.

After an amazing 38 year run at WESH 2 and 45 overall in TV news, the great Michelle Meredith is hanging up her reporting duties for retirement.

In a little over a month, she'll enter retirement but not before one more WESH 2 Fat Tuesday party today in honor of Mardi Gras. She's a Louisiana native so this means everything to her to bring a slice of Louisiana pride home to her for one more time.

I like her quirky on their personality and reporting style. She and Gail Pascal Brown are really good.

This is a big one for Minnesota... Belinda Jensen is calling it a career at KARE after 30 years.

Wondering if the Nexstar/Tegna merger has anything to do with the timing? With all the big names bowing out at KARE in recent years, Bel's retirement is another blow to the lineup.

Not all the way. It does say that she'll remain as a Saturday morning contributor starting in the Fall.

Now, unrelated to that...

Grace Anello is leaving WAAY 31 at the end of the week and a worthy replacement, Amber Kulick, takes over her spot on mornings.

Yes, that is stated in the article.

Oh my. I feel bad if this is how her career ends.

Longtime WHO meteorologist Jeriann Ritter has opened up to an interview with longtime sports director Keith Murphy, saying that she possibly has ALS, bulbar ALS in particular, which could force her to end her television career. This is a 25-minute interview at the link, but you can hear her speech slurring, which could be one sign of her diagnosis:

After 6 yesrs, Greg Rule will be leaving WINK-TV at the end of the coming week.

I have a feeling (only speculation at this point) that he will be joining Matt Devitt's new venture, whenever that comes around.

Turns out, I was wrong.

Instead, Greg is the new Chief at WPEC WPB.

This one doesn't make any sense to me.

Agreed. She seemed like the obvious successor to Mark Baden as chief should he ever retire (except he gets younger every year somehow).

She started in July 2019, so if it was a lowball contract thing… the timing doesn’t quite line up, it seems early to have even gotten an offer from management.

That said, from what I know, despite their ratings/performance, the newsroom leadership is not what it used to be. Hard to imagine she would just walk away though without saying goodbye.

And really struggling to think this was a cost-cutting layoff move.

Definitely a weird one!

Mary Nam was really one of the last of the old KOMO guard left alongside Molly Shen, IMHO.

However, after 23 years, having first joined in 2003, Mary has decided to leave KOMO News on March 31st. It'll be a sad day by then.
