TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 An end of an era is coming up at KLAS-TV. After 32 years, all of that in the morning, Sherry Swensk is leaving on April 16th. Its NOT a retirement for her, but her choice to do something else. https://tvnewscheck.com/journalism/article/sherry-swensk-leaving-klas-las-vegas-after-32-years/
TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Its about time WFLX replaced their horrible fake FOX font logo after 18 years. A much better improvement for WFLX, IMO. Plus, finally using the actual FOX logo for the first time since 2008. 6

TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Kellianne Klass is coming back to local television. This time, she's joining the morning team at KIII Corpus Christi. I know, a huge market downgrade from WESH/WKCF Orlando, but remember, her husband is in the U.S. Navy, therefore she moves frequently. https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2026/03/kellianne-klass-joins-kiii-3news.html?m=1

MD TV 389 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 WJLA ended their weekend morning newscasts. I should note they were only an hour long on both days, so it's not as big of a loss as you would think. It's still embarassing for an ABC station in a top 10 market, though: https://dcrtv.com/wjla-ending-weekend-news/ 1

Not just that they are an ABC affiliate, but, a DC station with so much going on because of those in power in DC. Another example of how the two big trump positive station groups don't really support investment in real news. 2
norcalTVfan 58 Posted March 8 Posted March 8 (edited) Speaking of canceled and changing newscasts — news out of Spokane, WA (DMA 66) — where 2 out of 3 late 11pm newscasts are now pre-recorded. KHQ, the locally-owned market leader, lost their contract to provide the FOX station its 10PM news among others. So, what do they do … launch a streaming 9PM and re-air it on TV at 11PM. KREM, owned by TEGNA, has been re-airing the 10PM from their sister at 11PM for like a year. Half a million households (if that many were watching — and only a tiny fraction are) — only have one choice for live news at 11PM. KHQ also cancelled their 4:30AM for a streaming 7AM which really isn’t a big deal and are airing the pre-recorded 11PM in an adjacent market. Cheap, cheap, cheap Edited March 8 by norcalTVfan Changing half million people to households

Cheap, cheap, cheap As much as I hate the idea of pre-recorded newscasts, a lot of stations just copy and paste their rundowns and use pre-recorded reporter stand-ups instead of live shots. The only thing live about some broadcasts are weather and the anchors reading. At that point the whole thing might as well be pre-recorded. But, if breaking news happens someone is going to have to be in the building.

I think they were burned by the radio station sell-off to Citadel ending up in a financial ralph-up and Cumulus taking them over badly; at this point, would rather keep control of the TV stations then let that happen again, and they have been burned somewhat (AMG pulling their own ralph-up of WJRT when they thought Gray would be a good steward).

She has been with the station longer than most people at all three stations in town. But I'm not surprised. She has had a great run. She will be missed.

Because when Bob Iger was brought back to do damage control, he said after the internal review that "linear generates significant advertising and subscription revenue" helping Disney amortize content costs. They'll dump the stations when this is no longer true. Broadcast is said to get about $28B in ads by 2029, currently $49b. so a sale may not be that far off there's a persistent rumor of a UHF auction in the next 3-4 years, and that is allegedly uncle Perry'S grand exit. Assuming the mobile carriers have appetite

Assuming the mobile carriers have appetite I’ve heard similar talk about that auction becoming a major upheaval in the broadcast TV industry as a whole so I would imagine the time is coming. At this point broadcast TV isn’t a growth industry. Edited March 11 by ns8401 2
tyrannical bastard 4676 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Sinclair is (re)introducing a morning newscast (they cancelled in 2023) on WACH in Columbia... https://tvnewscheck.com/journalism/article/wach-launching-good-day-columbia-new-morning-newscast/ It probably costs a fraction of what the old one did. But still noteworthy for a station group that loves to gut their local news departments in favor of piped in propa....i mean "content".... 3 1
