10Viewer 362 Posted February 11, 2025 Posted February 11, 2025 Columbus weather legend Jym Ganahl has passed at 76. He came to WCMH in 1979 from KWWL, one of the youngest TV meteorologists in the nation. He 'retired" from WCMH in 2016. After a year, he returned to the air on WSYX/WTTE, retiring last year. This is a huge loss. His 'weather lore' was the best. RIP Jym. 1 2 3

I still think he was pushed out at WCMH and his return to TV was as soon as he was able to. One of the many reasons ABC 6 & FOX 28 have become the new stations of record after NBC4 and 10TV's missteps and selling out to the highest bidder. 1 1 2

There was that episode back in 2008, IIRC, where they hired another meteorologist to tag team the weather with Jym. It was a huge mistake. He certainly went through ups and downs at WCMH. A great man indeed. 2 1 1

SDHIll1980 150 Posted April 16, 2025 Posted April 16, 2025 Another legendary television and radio personality passes on, this time Wink Martindale. Mr. Martindale passed away today at the age of 91, at Eisenhower Health Center in Rancho Mirage, California (near Palm Springs). He was a radio personality for many decades, but most notably he was the host of various game shows including Gambit, Debt, Headline Chasers (a show he co-created with Merv Griffin), the 1987-88 version of High Rollers, and the show that perhaps made him more famous--Tic Tac Dough. He was also one of the first media personalities that helped introduced Elvis Presley in the mid-50s, when Martindale hosted a local dance show on WHBQ-TV in Memphis, and brought Presley on as a guest performer. In later years, he and a couple of associates maintained a YouTube channel that features old and obscure game shows, including dozens of pilots that didn't become series. 1 1 4

TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted May 9, 2025 Posted May 9, 2025 This is not a local TV passing, I get that. But this shows how poignant and amazing and genuine this program is. Unfortunately, Inside the NBA had to mourn the loss of one of its stagehands, Kevin Thomas, who was with the program for 30 years and was featured on the show in a number of skits. He was 70. This was genuine to watch and it was saddening and emotional to see this. 2
