Weeters 1860
FIST FIRST on TVNewsTalk... The TVNewsTalk On Your Side I-Team Investigators have obtained building plans that appear to show NBC is in the process of renovating and dividing Studio 3B (last major use was NBC Nightly News/Rock Center up until 2017). The plans show two similar looking studios (however, the plans are marked "Scenic Fabrication by others, shown as reference for coordination purposes only") named as "3B-1" and "3B-2". The plans appear to show a 360 degree track camera in each, possibly similar to what BBC News uses. Could these be for WNBC and WNJU once Telemundo moves to 30 Rock? DEVELOPING...
NowBergen 533
Someone mentioned a couple of months ago in the WNBC thread that new studios for both stations would be built on the 2nd Floor at 30 Rock. Dividing 3B in half would probably result in two small studios. Currently 3C is listed at just over 4000 sq ft. 3K where News4NY broadcasts from is 2668 sq ft, so it would be smaller if that is the case. I would hope the days of a cramped studio for WNBC are long gone thinking back to 7K conference room disaster as well as when they were in 3C (1310 sq ft). I still miss the days of 6A. Lots of room, multiple sets.... But until they make some announcements, who knows.

MidwestTV 1194
Hmm 360° track like BBC isn't really something that's ever been done before in the US, is it? On the surface it would be very unique (especially if it was used for local news - hypothetically). I still miss that Rock Center studio.

Hopefully it at least looks better than what they have now. The current studio is big, but it has lots of wasted space and it even looked a bit outdated when it was new. The set it replaced was small, but it at least looked better imho.
jrogo 193
Just my opinion but I'm expecting these sets to be similar to the NBC Boston and Telemundo Boston sets, small but versatile, heavy use of video walls/big tech. If either of them need a bigger set (debates, special events, whatever) they can use one of the other sets at 30 Rock or even CNBC if needed, my guess is they'll have a permanent newsroom flash cam & desk similar to set up NBC Boston and NBC Philadelphia use. Anyone else thinking Nightly News to Studio 3K? It would be a good use of soon to be empty space, plus 1A's recent update feels temporary and it could really use full redo again, 3C is being used by MSNBC but is thrown together, 4E is used by News Now which is working but won't as they expand coverage. Seems NBC is in the same situation it was in 2017 when they switched studios around. Edited September 14, 2022 by jrogo

HSV cheesehead 95
Chuck Todd was in this [WNJU] studio for Meet the Press NOW, saying that it is the "election headquarters". Seems like NBC using it for the key primaries. I'll update this post once they post it [MTPNOW] on youtube. First few minutes (I could only get the full thing, sorry about that) is of interest. And yes, i did say Chuck Todd, but that's a discussion for another thread. Edited January 16 by HSV cheesehead
IceManNYR 226
Does anyone know why Telemundo 47 has not moved into the studio? Today it's being used by MSNBC.

It’s hard moving a station into another building especially across the river into New York you would think this wouldn’t be hard but I agree it’s should be done by now. But NYC traffic probably slows it down. Also WNJU has been in there current Linden, NJ facility for 20 years since 2004. Also the FCC has probably got to approve the move they have to have a presence in their city of license even if newscast are moving to 30 Rock according to guidelines. WNJU has been broadcasting from Fletcher Ave in Fort Lee since CNBC moved up 9W to Englewood Cliffs. I think before that they were in a small building in Teterboro. Both locations are a couple counties away from Linden. I think I read a couple of months ago, when they used the studio for another purpose, that they cannot move until a new joint WNBC-WNJU newsroom facility is opened in 30 Rock. A newsroom in Fort Lee and a studio at 30 Rock is not a feasible solution. I'm sure the suits at NBC have a plan, we are just not privy to it. Note, TelevisaUnivisions WXTV is licensed to Paterson NJ but studios are located in Teaneck.

There Teterboro building was nice because the sets in that building was a view of the small newsroom they had.

JTT 62
In my view, the background screen for the station in Los Angeles seems not clear at times, while at other times, the live feed of wherever the location is appears to be slow. MorningNews 1347
Do Nicole Wallace and Joy Reid hosts their MSNBC shows from a remote studio outside of 30 Rock? Their shows use the tightest shots with reflections on the screens behind them. Also anyone know what studio Jen Psaki led the evening coverage from after this week’s DNC? It almost seemed like a virtual set.

I have no special insights into the operations at MSNBC, but I'm guessing that those remote studios are afforded to many of the hosts on that network who have higher ratings and live some distance away from the NYC or D.C. studios. As far as that virtual set is concerned, I also noticed it this week. It's a different look for them, but I kinda like it though. Possible preview for their November election coverage this year. mouseboy33 53
SkyNews announced they will be using the Meet The Press studio for their coverage of the US Election. We are starting to see NBC and Sky working closer and closer together. We are seeing with SkySports and NBC Sport collab on English Premier League coverage that just started recently with commentators appearing on both channels.
