MediaZone4K 2314 Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 (edited) CBS 24/7 has debut it's new VR set to be used for its flagship streaming news show (according to LinkedIn). IDK if this will stabilize the streaming brand but it's a pretty cool concept. Almost a CNN News Central kind of feel. As much as I love Norah's current set, it would be cool to see a format like this on CBS Evening News to differentiate it from NNN and WNT. Edited June 29, 2024 by MediaZone4K 2
newseider 27 Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Anyone else not a fan of this virtual setup? In my option there are way too many wide shots and too much going on. I think studio 57 is much cleaner. 2
mouseboy33 112 Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 I kinda like it actually. I wish it were a bit brighter design. But it feels more faster paced. I not sure if this will work the entire day. But select hours across the schedule. Sure. 2 1

To simplify the busy background I would either dim those virtual screens or have a blur effect over the feeds. Something like this the put the focus more on the speaker. To this and @MediaZone4K's post, if this is a renovation of 57, it honestly could be for CBSEN. I don't think that 1515's current state would be great as an evening set, it would just look off. After the NYC relocation I would either hope for a recreation of Nora's DC set, something like this photo, or that virtual media wall set on CBS 24/7. Honestly the 24/7 set might be more unique since the CBSEN has tried everything at this point. Edited October 16, 2024 by MediaZone4K 1 1

TheNewsTV 277 Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 (edited) Well, it looks like Studio 57 isn't under renovation. But for some reason, they moved the afternoon news from streaming to that studio. (RoundUp today) CBS News 24/7 today in the afternoon Edited October 16, 2024 by TheNewsTV 1
MediaZone4K 2314 Posted Saturday at 08:28 PM Posted Saturday at 08:28 PM (edited) I haven't seen them do this before, perhaps someone else has. CBS News 24/7 is simulcasting BBC's Iran strike coverage just as NBC News Now is simulcasting Sky News UK. After 9PM ET, ABC News is the only major US network that was breaking into programming as far as I've seen. Edited Saturday at 08:51 PM by MediaZone4K 1
MorningNews 1542 Posted Saturday at 09:58 PM Posted Saturday at 09:58 PM It’s a pretty significant breaking news story this evening and CBS is phoning it in. 1

On the broadcasting side, both CBS and NBC stayed with their scheduled programming (48 Hours and Dateline, respectively....and both were years-old episodes, too) for the 9:00pm ET hour. I was flipping through channels at 10pm, and I'm pretty sure CBS was at least starting its second (49th?) hour of 48H, while NBC had switched to live coverage. (Fox broadcasting was airing the Mets-Phillies game, so they're excused, though it looks like they did cut to Fox News for Trump's speech.) 1

CBS did eventually do a long special report with Margaret Brennan anchoring. But it was interesting to see the BBC streaming simulcast, I had never seen them do that before. 1 1

David Muir was the only "lead" anchor to come in on a Saturday. (The other three were not leaving home on a Saturday night..I JOKE). In all seriousness, CBS seems to take a more interchangeable approach to their "lead" anchor during breaking news. For example, I've often seen Margaret Brennan take special reports, and even Nora O'Donnell was involved in coverage of the pope's funeral alongside John Dickerson instead of Maurice. So there is that. And spinning the wheel for today’s Special Report, It’s John Dickerson! I’m fully convinced that CBS doesn’t really care who does the cut ins- but rather who’s available at the moment to go on air. You could chalk that up as a weakness since they don’t have that trademark name and voice (read: like Muir for ABC); but I think that says something about CBS’s bench and culture that they’re comfortable running with whoever is ready to go on air at that moment (this time of day, could have also still been someone form mornings so Evenings could prepare for their show) 1
