TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted February 7, 2025 Posted February 7, 2025 (edited) Its still months away. However, WVUE has already shown you its new home right here. Reminder: WVUE sold their old building to Xavier University as they'll move to mid-city near I-10. Unfortunately, its still not ready before the New Orleans Super Bowl. https://www.fox8live.com/video/2025/02/06/take-sneak-peak-fox-8s-new-home/ EDIT: It shows both their new studios on this one: one for main news and weather, another for NOLA NOW and GCSEN. You misheard that, as the anchor said their new studio is just a few blocks away [from their soon-to-be-former home near Xavier University of Louisiana]. The intent was always to have the place ready in time for Super Bowl Sunday, and by the looks of things, they're set to start broadcasting from there no later than after the game is over on Sunday. I think the lighting will be better on this one since you could see the glare of the lights on the monitor array during dark images. At least it's not the bus-station/bank branch look of some of their past sets....the "Gray-Hound" look.... Edited February 7, 2025 by tyrannical bastard 1

From working in a newsroom, they push you to be innovative and think outside of the box with stories so that we aren't just doing the same thing as the competition. Why doesn't that apply to design standards? The majority of newscasts in this country feature bland video walls with no physical set pieces, and some generic white box design for their lower thirds. Somebody switch it up please. Edited February 11, 2025 by MediaZone4K 1 1
MorningNews 1711 Posted February 11, 2025 Posted February 11, 2025 I get that sentiment and agree with it but it’s probably unlikely that viewers determine who they watch based off of set design. 3 3 1 1

True. We always have to strike a balance between being critics who have a more acute eye for certain things and assessing what the audience actually cares about. But If the news station dedicated a segment to draw attention to their new set it shows that they want the audience to care about it. Edited February 11, 2025 by MediaZone4K 3
ScottSchell 423 Posted April 6, 2025 Posted April 6, 2025 Apologies for bumping this but is there any word on how much longer it will be before they officially move and start broadcasting from the new building? 1

The new studio is finished as of February. It's just a matter of finishing up some technical stuff before they can fully broadcast from there. 2

tyrannical bastard 4676 Posted May 7, 2025 Posted May 7, 2025 Please don't tell me they're rebranding as WVUE 8..... Come on Gray.... "FOX 8" is what put them on top of the ratings, WVUE is branding of an also-ran ABC affiliate that was pounded by WWL and WDSU 30 years before Fox came calling. These Fox stations don't quite have the ability to stand on their own like their other affiliated stations. Anything else would be foreign to their viewers. 2 1 1

The comment section on @TheRolyPoly's FB link has some people calling out the dropping of FOX for the call letters already... And most are not kind. Hopefully someone is reading the early speculative feedback! Agree that when you're on top of the mountain, you need to indeed innovate and stay ahead of the game, but don't blow up what you're known for (read- the branding, the logo) 5 hours ago, MichiganNewsGraphicsJunkie said: That and their icondic FOX 8 with the Fleur de LIs O Isn't a Fleur-De-Lis in NOLA like hiving a lone star on just about anything in Texas? Lots of local and regional pride that goes along with it. The Fleur de Lis is probably the most sacred of all above being referred to "Fox 8". It was a brilliant move by the Bensons when they bought the station, and carried on to this day. And after reading the comments, potentially losing the "Fox" branding is causing some viewers to lose their minds, because they tie it with a certain "news" channel. Unless some were deleted, of the 41 comments on that post (as of this post’s writing), only four make reference to this, and two are from people confusing the Fox network and Fox News Channel. That said, I don’t know if they’re going the WBRC route with the branding (switching primarily to a callsign/channel brand, while keeping the network-centric branding in limited form) or dropping the Fox name entirely, since the post still makes reference to “Fox 8”, including on the standalone and desk monitors in the set pic (assuming that wasn’t taken from weeks ago, and updated graphics with the “WVUE 8” brand weren’t sent to the new control room yet). That is fair- I could have phrased my last remarks better. Indeed there are challenges for virtually all Fox affiliates getting confused for the cable network- and many ownership groups take different approaches to embracing and deflecting. As for the FB comments, I always remember what one of my managers once told me- that for every comment on socials, there are more followers that were thinking the same thing but just didn't post it (admittingly, I am that type of person when scrolling through FB or X. Here? a bit of a different story.) 1

MorningNews 1711 Posted May 7, 2025 Posted May 7, 2025 Looks pretty damn good on camera. Not sure where this afternoon’s speculation that they were ditching the Fox logo came from. The dress rehearsals of the new set all included the Fox 8 logo.
