Georgie56 3661 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 (edited) With the opening ceremony on Friday, but competition underway now, this is the place to discuss broadcasting aspects of the Games. USA Network kicked off coverage of what will likely be their final Olympic Games for the foreseeable future this morning, but there’s no USA branding anywhere. Just the standard NBC bug (this is probably a side effect of the Versant split). Edited February 5 by Georgie56 1
Viper550 318 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 (edited) As for the OBS graphics, they seem to be still following most of the design first used in 2021 but some of the scoreboards have been updated, most noticeably on curling and hockey. The hockey one is now pretty much in line with typical NHL scoreboards, complete with shots on goal. It is giving me MLB Network vibes, except teal. Though this "Winter Olympics™" tab they're putting on everything is getting annoying (they did something similar in Paris but without the ™ on it, but at least it did eventually change to things like "Gold Medal Match"; would it be easier to just slip a "Women's Group A" in there?) tyrannical bastard 4678 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) Are former NBCUNI networks carrying the games grandfathered (locked in) by the current arrangement even through they are now part of Versant? And if so, for how long? Edited February 12 by tyrannical bastard

And if so, for how long? Yes but not sure how long. The networks' bug has been replaced by the NBC logo in general. You watch USA Network (the 24/7 home during the games) and it has the NBC logo on it. I know because I have Peacock with access to all feeds, plus multiview options (those feeds come from OBS). It may be for the duration of the current contract NBC is under... Anyone know when their rights to carry the Olympics are up?
AaronQ 309 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) A familiar theme song is back for Olympic hockey when NBC had the rights of the NHL. Edited February 13 by AaronQ

Mrknowitall526 121 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Does anyone have any links to the new version of "Summon the Heroes" NBC is using during primetime? They used it during Paris also. It's catchy and gets stuck in my head! 1
DENDude 259 Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Saw this on YouTube, kind of interesting look at how NBC gets the Olympics on the air. 2
Viper550 318 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 (edited) NBC figured out NHL-style "digitally-enhanced dasherboards" and is substituting the Milano Cortina logos on the boards during hockey with ads for the primetime show and specific events. Feels a bit excessive. Edited February 18 by Viper550

Feels a bit excessive. Nothing wrong with this. It's when they start putting actual ads on the boards for the Olympics... That will be excessive, and probably a violation of some contract. 2
DENDude 259 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 A post on Linked-In by WBBH/NBC Gulf Coast News, shows them near the top of the ratings nationwide this year, kind of a surprise IMO. What is surprising about this, is take a look at KUSA in Denver, & KSL in Salt Lake City, typically these affillates do very well with the winter games nationwide in terms of ratings, 15th (Tied with WLWT) & 12th respectively what is up with that?? 1 1

For WBBH and WPTV (West Palm Beach), can probably assume that snowbirds are helping their numbers, which makes that less of a surprise- Especially how KARE and WTMJ are performing... Olympic Fever here in the upper Midwest! Wouldn't lose too much sleep over KSL and KUSA... Still over a 10 share, probably for first place in their markets, and scoring higher than literally regular programming NBC airs in primetime. To that point, Every NBC station in the country is probably enjoying their Olympic numbers right now. 2
GodfreyGR 812 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Will it ever be public knowledge what NBC's ratings were this morning with the US/CAN Gold Medal hockey game? Easily has to be a Sunday morning record. 1
Megatron81 343 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I enjoyed the Olympic coverage I'll miss it. Very happy that USA Men's won gold in Hockey for the first time in 46 years and beat rival Canada in both Men's & Women's Hockey. USA USA USA.

Easily has to be a Sunday morning record. Just under 21 million viewers across all platforms they said (including reruns on USA Network and a late night NBC airing). They did indeed say it was a pre-9am Sunday morning sporting event record in the US: https://www.nbcsports.com/pressbox/press-releases/nearly-21-million-viewers-watched-nbcuniversals-coverage-of-usa-canada-olympic-mens-gold-medal-hockey-game-peaking-at-26-million-for-game-winning-goal-on-nbc-peacock Around 26 million were watching when the gold-winning goal was scored. 1
