Last segment of América 2's 7PM news from May 24, 2001, anchored by Enrique Llamas de Madariaga.

He was one of the anchors who popularized the conversational way of presenting the news (very common here in the South), always providing commentary between stories.

This is not related to TV news, but it's a little bit strange.

A movie opener from Canal 9 Libertad taped in April 1988.

They were using the well-remembered ABC movie opener from the "Something's Happening" campaign, but with the 20th Century Fox theme.

Back then, Argentinian TV channels' identity looked like being stranded in the late 1970s, where Chyrons and slides invaded the screens (it reminded me a lot of regional television in Australia before aggregation). The influx of 3D graphics came in the early 1990s. Telefe and Canal 13 were privatized in 1990 and were the pioneers (alongside ATC) to introduce this modern technique. By the end of that decade, it had evolved rapidly and improved significantly.

ITN Morning News 1989 - as a primary school kid, I used to sneak out of bed before 5:00am and was mesmerized by this program. Everything was cool to me - the graphics, the open, the presentation and the epic theme. What made the ITN Morning News at 5:00am special was its incorporation of elements only seen on this program - the ITN World News (which was broadcast to Europe the previous night) and segments from CNN (only seen here in the pre-subscription TV days).

ITN also had these awesome updates at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00am (I remember them from the age of 12!):

And a very early edition of the program in its first year, with some teething issues with the open and theme:

Another bizarre holiday campaign, but from Canal 9 (1996), when Alejandro Romay still owned the station before selling it to Australia's Prime Television in 1997.

All the channel's stars (including its owner) are disguised! This is one of my favorites.

A full broadcast of the 12PM news on Canal 8 in Mar del Plata, Argentina from August 1991.

Check out the opener: the music is great but would fit better in a program like Hard Copy or A Current Affair.

*Despite cable was available there, Mar del Plata was essentially a two-station city, having Canal 10 as its sole competitor. Both stations cherry-picked programs from Buenos Aires, but they aligned with Telefe and Canal 13 later in that decade.

TVN (Chile's public television network) premiered some beautiful IDs in July of 2001.

It combined a giant glass-made logo with some of that country's most unique landscapes.

And check out how those IDs were developed:

The one with the water is great...thanks for sharing that.

A fire alarm knocked ITV News at Ten (which is produced by ITN) off air. They apparently stayed on for a few minutes until a package ended and Tom Bradby explained that they were going to evacuate and may be back. ITV put up their break down slide and left the building. Unfortunately they were not able to get back into the building in time to finish the broadcast. ITV London’s nightly newscast, which are also produced by ITN in the same studio, did not make it to air. Instead an adjacent region, ITV Meridian, was piped in and broadcast to London viewers.

Portugal's Canal 1 (now RTP1) 8pm news opener used from 1990 until December 31, 1994.

Surprisingly, this open belong to the time when RTP and its two channels were the only TV services in Portugal, but SIC and TVI (the two private networks) ended its monopoly in 1992 and 1993, respectively.
