Vlad 325
Re: Male Fashion Disasters: 100% Corning Free!!! Well, looks like SuitSnob has become TVNT's official fashion consultant, lol. We all should consult you for our fashion needs, lol. That was a really great and informative podcast! Based on the results of what I heard on the podcast, it seems that the MAJORITY of the best dressers here in the New York market are on ABC 7. A lot of reporters and anchors from ABC 7 are mentioned. I was suprised about Charles Gibson though, but I never pay attention nor do I have the expertise, in the fashion business, lol. Overall great points made. FOX 5 and CBS 2 definitely needs help. They need to hire a fashion counselor for that station, lol. I noticed that you didn't make too much reference to those at MY 9 and CW 11. I think I heard a few personalities from NBC 4 not much though. But anyway very informative podcast. Maybe they'll get it right if they hear it. I myself have learned quite a few things myself from that, lol. Do you wonder if he is going to have a funeral and bury THE SUIT? He can't cremate it...polyester does not burn. The sad truth is, Ron actually has quite a few nice suits. It's just that he either goes tieless, wears an ugly tie or buttons all the buttons. He can get Super 180 bespoke suits by the best tailor in the universe and wear ties of the finest spun silk and have each of his shirts hand-stitched...but if he doesn't fix his etiquette it will all be for nothing. (Rob Morrison, Michael G., David, & Chuck) SuitSnob really needs to spend more time with WNBC, but generally- Like Rob most of the time. He at least has a style about him. Ushery is about as solid as solid gets...nothing too flashy but always appropriate and professional-looking. Great tie knots! Chuck is in the "blah" zone. Doesn't really do anything particularily incorrect; but I am not a big fan of his taste and wish he would consult a stylist to up his game a bit(Bill Ritter has pretty much the EXACT same situation). Jim has great Power Tie Knots, but his suitcoats are usually cut with the top button REALLY low. I did not know about the jeans...frankly, if he never stands up he can be wearing a Hula skirt as long as no one sees it. Do they ever stand up on 11 as they do on CBS and FOX? When standing up, which buttons are appropriate to button? Any way/order to unbutton these buttons in a "classy" way before sitting down? With a three-button suit starting from the top: Sometimes. Always. NEVER!!!!! Two-button suit starting from top: Always. NEVER!!! Keep in mind that some three-button suits are cut so the top button is placed where the lapel starts to roll up...in these suits you never button the top. To learn how to look suave while buttoning/ unbuttoning while standing up/ sitting down I prescribe watching James Bond flicks. PS: NJ Burkett wore a PURPLE CORDOROY BLAZER tonight!!! SuitSnob 19
Re: Male Fashion Disasters: 98% Corning Free!!! Mammoth update today…better get a cup of coffee and a Twinkie…maybe even a crack pipe…this is a rough one. Oh woe is me…woe is me!!! The more and more I try to help the worse and worse they dress!!! Poor SuitSnob starts to question his ability to perceive reality…is he actually wrong? Is a well-dressed gentleman supposed to button all the buttons on a jacket? Does having it pull tight across the abdomen and buckling while seated make you look more professional, perhaps even sexy? SuitSnob went to Ask.com and queried “how to button suit” and got many, many hits…here are just a few of the links: http://www.askmen.com/fashion/fashiontip_200/211_fashion_advice.html http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_doesn't_one_button_the_bottom_button_on_a_suit_or_waistcoat http://www.suitaly.com/mens_single_breasted_suit/ http://fashion.about.com/cs/menstips/l/blaskmen.htm http://www.spacehijackers.co.uk/notcricket/html/tips/tips1.html Well, what do you know…this seems to be common knowledge…SuitSnob incorrect? No way! SuitSnob does NOT question his ability to perceive reality-the reality is these guys need to learn to dress! On with the Gallery of Suit Shame!!! First, let me be nice and point out a day when Mr. Ron Corning dresses just about perfectly on Good Day New York: Now that wasn’t so hard…was it Ronnie? Also in the “Improved” ledger we have Rob Malcolm over at Fox5 who has not only not had a tie-less day in a while; each and every day his ambitious knots are in a proper shirt that can accommodate them: Now here we have what is just about perfect…SuitSnob was kvelling…had handsome and stylish Rob broken the Fox5 Fashion Curse? Alas, it was not to be…upon viewing the long shot in the studio monitor… …he had buttoned all the way up. Why Rob…WHY?!?!? It was such a nice outfit…what did it ever do to you?!?!? :'( His record of nice outfits with appropriate shirt collars mixed with being all buttoned-up continued as a trend… Confidential to Rob Malcolm: Rob, you obviously have a bad habit of buttoning up…a compulsion if you will…as there is currently no 12-step program for your predicament, this is what I suggest: Go to your tailor (who does a great job on your suits that you constantly ruin by buttoning all the way up) and BEG him to run clear thread through the bottom buttonholes of all of your suits so you will be prevented from disgracing yourself any further. You are halfway to being off of the SuitSnob ShitList…almost there buddy… (I need a moment…come on SuitSnob…deep breath….) Before leaving the Fox5 studio, how about a quick visit to The Duke of Lopsided Tie Knots? I know he is in the field, but does the van not have oh, um…a MIRROR?!?!? Now let’s see Duke with a nice, thicker knot that actually fills his collar and a generally all-around smarter outfit: Now THAT’S what I am talking about!!! Duke is a handsome guy…let’s see him dandy it up a bit every day! Let’s take a little trip over to the disaster that is CBS2. We all know the firing and Musical Anchor Chairs they have been playing have wreaked havoc with their entire news department and this has been covered in detail all over this forum. Has it escaped out attention that (with the notable exception of Dapper Dave Carlin) every man they have hired for the news department in the last year has major clothing issues? I don’t have any Wragge shots this week-but the man has gone through more wardrobe transformations than I can count in the last year…remember that thread I did a while back Chris Wragge: Fashion Superstar? I swear he stopped wearing half of the outfit components I praised and replaced them with crap…I think Sybil is his fashion consultant at this point…you never know what you are going to get. First let’s look at Sean Hennesey once again at the anchor desk (God knows for how long at that damn sweatshop): Collar points too narrow, tie knot too tiny and lopsided. Great look for an anchor. I swear…Sean is a handsome guy under those crappy outfits…such as: I have heard of being color-blind…but can one be PATTERN blind…what is with the tie? And the tab collar, who do you think you are, Ken Rosato? This is the same suit I trashed in the last installment and it STILL sucks! Sean...get to a better men’s store…hell, at this point go to a woman’s clothing store! Sean is still looking better at the desk than (Sorry Ron…you are no longer) WORST DRESSED MAN ON NEW YORK NEWS NOT COUNTING MR. G WHO IS BEYOND HELP Don Dahler. (Dramatic pause) Oh dear lord…how can CBS let him on the air? Another 4-button suit from the early Clinton Era…boxy, shapeless, horrible tailoring…blah, blah, blah… Now it’s time for our favorite Don Dahler game, Why Does My Suit Look Like This? Bunching up and away from the torso…collar rising above neckline while seated… And because WHY boys and Girls? OK, everyone all together!!! (Sound of Smart Boys and Girls) BECAUSE HE BUTTONED ALL THE BUTTONS ON HIS SUITCOAT UNCLE SUITSNOB!!! Here he is with a delightful ventless suit from the early 90s with a tapered jacket (my God…when was the last time this man updated his wardrobe?). Remember when those were in fashion? Like before the Internet existed? Of course both buttons buttoned…and what happens when he sits? And then Lonnie Quinn (who is working the weekend while always dressed-appropriately John Bolaris rushes off to Philly) gets in the action: And then at last we see both of them sitting with their jackets buckling and ties bulging: My God…the last time I saw that many clowns I was at the damn circus. CBS2 is just beyond a joke at this point. Jim Rosenfield could really give these idiots lessons if he wasn’t so busy trading produce tips with Tony on the nooncast. (another DEEP breath) Now, I was shocked, SHOCKED this weekend to see the generally perfectly preppy N.J. Burkett wear this monstrosity on-air: PURPLE CORDOUROY?!?!? Oh no…no…not you N.J. You never give SuitSnob a problem! Did we learn nothing from Andre Hepkins wearing blue velour last year? Confidential to N.J…go back to your natty suits or people might think that N. J. stands for “New Jersey.” (SuitSnob drinks double shot of whisky) OK…I was encouraged to take a peek at the local fake-networks. I now remember why I don’t dare look…there is only so much time in the day… First: Harry Martin. Handsome. Charming. Great suits, suits, ties, shoes…almost as snappy as Anastos. What does he do to screw it up: Harry is a chronic bottom-buttoner, which really amazes me as his taste is generally impeccable. And they seem to stand up for the entire broadcast…maybe one day they will be a real network and be able to afford a desk. I guess since he is on My9 it is OK…but in case he subs for Ernie on FOX again , he had better follow the links above and join the rest of the men in the world. Here reporter Carter Evans (great name and handsome as hell) pulls off a rare Double Corning: Jeans with a suitcoat that is all buttoned-up. Classy. Dude, you did your hair and shaved…obviously you care about how you look so why dress like ass? Now, over at CW11 we have Jim Watkins who is only on the edge of problematic. As I mentioned before, generally good dresser whose 2-button suits have buttons cut very low (like most of Lonnie Quinn’s 2-button suits). And note the bad tailoring while seated; the lower end of the lapels just above the button almost always flop forward from too much material (or perhaps they need to be taken in a bit): One thing SuitSnob loves about Jim however is his neat and natty tie knots…a very tall man like Jim can tie a Windsor knot and get its balanced precision (Duke and Sean above are using four-in-hand knots on their lopsided ties) without the huge bulge: Now, I have taken a dare and will present a shot of Mr. G. No commentary. I will just let you bask in the beauty of its incompetence. I will sign off here (oh, and watch this space for a link to a series of articles I am writing for another site…SuitSnob is getting around like a two-bit media whore). No words can capture what the final screen cap conveys… Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/405-male-fashion-disasters/page/8/#findComment-21988 Share on other sites
