PlutoTV has a Johnny Carson Channel, why they haven't struck a deal with WWP/Letterman for is tenure of Late Show episodes and Snyder/Kilborn/Ferguson LLS is beyond me. Yes... They have to scrub the titles to "Letterman" like they did with "Carson", everything else should be playable for the most part.2 points

We don't need to cross-post everything about this. It is still INCREDIBLY early. Let's keep discussion here, instead of having the same conversation in 2 places.2 points

Should have definitely been Michelle for this show. Would have truly set it apart. Shirleen is stiff and has always come across as fake. Put Michelle in that chair, you have a show that would actually be a true NY version of “Live”. Sam brings years of hosting experience and is solid in his role. Don’t forget that before he moved to GMA, he would often fill-in for Regis on LIVE.2 points

Saturday's ratings are in. CW's ACC game (0.11/617k) nearly matched NBC's Big Ten game (0.11/665k).2 points

so how are Spectrum customers supposed to watch the annual 700 Club begathon now without Freeform? or did they stop watching after Pat Robertson retired?2 points

As an aside, I'm surprised CBS hasn't put more of their back catalogue on Pluto TV, particularly The Pat Sajak Show and the post-2014 late-night shows. Older episodes of 60 Minutes could also be worth putting up, too.1 point

For what it’s worth, this is actual reported news… not fanboy speculation that I believe that particular forum is for. That said, I’m sure no one on here will be able to resist adding their own ideas.1 point

I mean they won, so I feel that's still better than the Ion Episode Picker 9000 choosing what episodes of Criminal Minds to run that night (and the problem is trying to get both ESPN and TNT's permission for earlier rounds). If it's fine for the NHL Network to do, why not their broadcaster until games start?1 point

Narrowing that down to what is actually realistic: The feature films don't fit in the timeslot (and Paramount only owns their post-1951 features, the Republic library, and the films that previous incarnations of CBS have financed), Much of the early CBS primetime was wiped or not owned by the network, and Worldwide Pants owns the entirety of the CBS late night talk show lineup from 1993 to 2014, leaving for CBS The Pat Sajak Show. That still leaves a significant library of 70 or so years or surviving comedy or drama programming owned by the network, Paramount Television, other smaller producers Paramount owns, or their cable networks.1 point

I understand what @MorningNews is saying. In the NYC market, these types of newscasts really do not successfully exist outside of GDNY and, like what they said, WABC could put a repeat of the 6am show on at 10am and the ratings would be fine. So, you have to wonder, if that’s the case, how long will station management continue pouring resources into a show that would do well and be profitable regardless of the format? That said, I think the consensus here is that this is a nice and fresh attempt at something different for WABC. Based off the first show, it’s being executed well. Hopefully it’s so successful that the format sticks and becomes an outlier compared to the traditional newscasts.1 point

Regarding the WLBT logo, I noticed the arm of the “3” was shortened to match the weight of the callsign font. Ironically, the revised design otherwise is closer to the original 1985–2009 layout (the version used with the standardized Raycom/Gray packages from 2009 until the GrayONE debut had the middle leg extending slightly closer to the top of the “3”’s open loop). The WIS logo is decent; the kerning of the call letters could have been spaced a little closer than it is, and the “I” and “S” made a bit thicker, so it fully matches the weight of the “W” (it can be hard to tell if the weights of all three letters match in certain depictions).1 point

I think Mike and Shirleen make a good pairing overall, and I think adding Sam as a 'third anchor' of sorts was a very smart move due to his credentials/name recognition. In terms of light newscasts, there seem to be quite a variety now: -CBS 2 News at 9 with Cindy Hsu (more of a 'positive' newscast; not a huge fan of the forced back and forth with weather, like when the anchor would ask a question to segue weather reports instead of just a normal weather broadcast) -New York Living (although that entire show completely changed vibes to be way lighter fare when they replaced Chris with Alex, but I will acknowledge Marysol and Alex gel very well) -GDNY 9am hour (although this is an extension of GDNY it can be viewed as a new show somewhat) But back to EWN I'm starting to think Dani is there to fill the void whenever Sam can't be, since I think* he takes off every Friday? So in that case, it makes sense to market the newscast as 4 people as opposed to 3 when 1 is consistently off on a certain day. It seems like they are slowly preparing for the new look but it will debut sometime this Fall, (sigh) hopefully.1 point

Not the biggest fan of the new WLBT logo. I have a feeling that many of the Gray stations are going for this "overlapping letters" look. On the other hand, the new WIS logo looks great and really stands out with the new look.1 point

Couldn't agree more with what Vlad said. It's exactly what the 10am "news" show should be, hosts are great, glad to see Sam there the whole time. Well executed by WABC.1 point

Currently watching the show and streaming it at work, it is very different and refreshing. More in-depth focus on issues and it looks great! Chemistry is great amongst the hosts. For a change, they are not using the Eyewitness News theme Package. Still has the same ole 2016 graphics package with some new gold and yellow morning elements to it. Definitely not the traditional broadcast that we are used to seeing. They have a cute little Circle 7 desk in front of the main desk and the backdrop has been changed. The new opening sequence is really nice they still are on the Talent Open, and they also have a new theme too, not Eyewitness News at all. I think it's a nice effort and is quite refreshing and that is essentially what I was pretty much asking for in a few of the previous posts and they are delivering that. Kudos to WABC for making this show different. Let's see how what everyone thinks! Sam Champion is quite the host! So nice to see him not only doing the weather but also anchoring the show so good for him on that.1 point

Family Feud now has eight unique runs, with all of them carried by WNYW/WWOR; I thought the seventh and eighth were repeats of two of the runs until I checked listings and saw each one was a different episode. Has any show ever had more than four runs a day? Insane.1 point

There are so many things better than having to resort to Byron Allen for a NETWORK timeslot..... Color Bars. Test patterns. Tower Cams. A black screen with soothing sounds. Anything readily in the public domain. Infomercials (of any kind) Any 1980's first-run syndication (bonus points for She's the Sheriff or Small Wonder) I give TV as we know it until the end of the year unless someone reaches a deal. And Stephen Colbert better have a long beard like Letterman did during the last strike!1 point

CBS is sorry as hell for this. At this point just do edited versions of past Paramount hits. I wanna know which executive decided that (insert Paramount show here) was not a good idea and this was. They honestly could just try to temporarily import Clone High (i know its technically on Max but still) and a few other shows to temporarily compete against Fox (if on Sundays or Mondays) or Adult Swim (if in late night) for example, if it's this bad. Do a special late night Drew Barrymore or something. It's one thing to recycle content but at least show something that's relevant.1 point

Paramount Global has this huge library of shows to draw on, but they go with a show they literally have to pay nothing for moldy standup programming that hasn't been updated since like 2009? What, did Rob Dyrdek somehow reject them playing Ridiculousness repeats? You might as well just give the time back to the affiliates for 1am news or informercials or something.1 point

Byron Allen's Comics Unleashed is expanding from CBS local (and the rest of first-run syndication) to CBS proper for a limited time only, starting September 18. https://deadline.com/2023/09/comics-unleashed-with-byron-allen-cbs-late-night-1235543726/1 point

The real question is who blinked first, Disney or Charter. And yes, I absolutely believe Monday Night Football–on ESPN and ABC–and featuring the New York Jets–had everything to do with it.1 point

What reason do we have to think Sony is all that upset (not happy)? It's Just a simple business decision. Sliding back Kimmel, even under the current strike situation, further than it already may be if MNF runs long, is likewise not realistic. A couple of episodes of a game show airing late at night really isn't that big a deal.1 point
-
But when the same network partners with you on primetime episodes there should be some basic considerations made to make both camps happy. At the very least you can bump up Kimmel a half-hour currently with no issue, so why not do that to get WoF in a viewable time slot?1 point

But where earlier in the day on most stations? They have full schedules for the most part. Yes, some here and there have Daytime Jeopardy. But if we’re talking the O&Os as an example, there isn’t space. Wheel isn’t going to bump the news, the View or Tamron. That’s just not reality. Could the O&Os make better use of—and promote—Localish for these kinds of things? Sure. They’ve used it for overflow before…and sometimes rely on the overnight slots. Both have their pluses and minuses. It’s just Wheel of Fortune. It’s an important piece of their schedule, but when you have more programming than hours in the day, something has to give.1 point
-
The best way to get around the asinine Wheel rule is for Wheel to move up to 7 and let Jeopardy be the one to replace Daytime Jeopardy although in the case of WTVD it airs in late night.1 point
-
ABC has bigger things to focus on, like the network programming, not syndication for a few episodes. No one is somehow doing something to Wheel, nor any specific show. It’s just the nature of the business. Win some, lose some. Ultimately, the benefit of MNF across the network far, far outweighs a couple preempted game show episodes.1 point

It's no secret Nexstar is likely running tight budget with The CW since they are trying to make the network profitable again. So it makes sense they wouldn't want to go over budget just to create a full graphics package for their College Football telecasts in a month and a half. They'll eventually do their own graphics package when they get to year 2 of the ACC telecasts. They just need more time to create a full graphics package. You can't rush perfection, unless you're willing to pay a lot for it.1 point

A full episode video of Who The Bleep Is That? (on YouTube, located on the website too) has the host saying.. ”America’s #1 show, Emmy-nominated…” Uh, no. First of all, how is it America’s #1 show if nobody’s watched it yet? Second of all, you haven’t gotten nominations for any awards.1 point

Not great for The CW, since it leaves the rest of Montana unaccounted for AFAIK, but I think I know what Scripps' endgame is. They recently bought the broadcast rights to the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights, and with The CW gone, I noticed they've turned those subchannels into independents. Since Montana is in the Golden Knights' territory, they're probably going to run the games on those channels.1 point

Ryan and Dionne are about the same age, he's been at the station longer, she's been doing sports longer. Their other commitments might play a factor, if all parties are interested in keeping those. Ryan still does Windy City Weekend, and she has a midday Saturday show on ESPN1000, plus will be co-hosting the 2 to 3-hour Bears pregame show, which is generally going to be Sunday mornings. I could see a platoon approach, where they split the 7 days in way that isn't the normal weekday/weekend split, but I don't know how they'd break that up. We'll see.1 point

But Worldwide Pants produced several weeks of guest hosts early in 2015 before Corden took over (but not the week of episodes from New York including the legendary Adam Pally ep or the special late episodes of The Talk). Edit: A search of the trademark database says that Worldwide Pants still owns the Late Show trademarks As for Pluto TV repeats, there are rights issues with the musical guests (there is an official Letterman YouTube channel with choice segments and interviews dating back to the NBC era).0 points
