Because people pay extra attention to weekend weather by and large. Pretty simple. Lots of plans that can be significantly impacted—sports events, family gatherings, day trips, et al.3 points

https://athlonsports.com/nba/nba-reportedly-leaning-one-way-following-major-tnt-media-rights-announcement There's a quote in this article that says the NBA is expected to reject wbd offer. It's an opinion held by New York Times Andrew Merchant. Other articles have stated similiar opinions as well. NBA hasn't officially rejected the offer, but many assume they will.2 points

Weekend teams are fine. I suppose station thinking is that bringing in a primary anchor like Maurice on the weekend signals urgency and importance to viewers. Similarly, on the national level, Kristine is a capable anchor but Norah was brought in eventually so the leading face of the network could be with viewers through this big story. Having Norah (and Lester and David) in on a Sunday signals that the situation is huge. Anywho...back to WCBS before the admins come.2 points

Calendars have been this way since the 1800s; red indicates weekends and holidays, white or black weekdays. Some stations may differ in color, but weekends are always demarcated by a different color than the weekdays.2 points

TWC rolled out "new" graphics today. Why do I put quotation marks around "new"? Well, that's because they basically said to the graphics designer, "We want the same thing as our current look, but pretend you're a graphics designer working in the mid-to-late 2000s, early HD era." My crappy phone pics likely do not do justice to the glorious, shiny 3D effects...1 point

Their 2-hour delay of live streaming is going to cost them big time in viewers. This is why Nexstar will be the first major TV station owner to fail because it's pure idiocy to delay a live stream and tell viewers to watch the station on live TV to see it live in 2024.1 point

Big fan of that cut of C-Clarity and hope it's part of a refreshed music package. Also a big fan of that new open. Looks like the TANK has really stepped up its animation game.1 point

I live in southeast MA. I get both WCVB and WLNE over the air. WLNE airs World News Tonight at 6:00 PM ET on Sundays while WCVB airs it at 6:30 PM. I tuned into WLNE at 6 and got the Rachel Scott version. I'm guessing WCVB got David. Is there a reason why Sunday editions of ABC World News Tonight are not consistently at 6:30 PM across all Eastern time zone markets?1 point

Phil Lipof former WABC morning anchor left to go to Boston and then went on to return back to ABC to work for ABC news. He went from Local to National so I don't think that is always the case.. Also non-meteorlogist / weathercaster who learned on the job, Sam Champion a very unique case, went from Local to National back to Local and back to National again. So while it is far and few, it does happen.. And also with all due respect, New York by no means is a downgrade. Landing a job in the in the nation's top market is pretty much an honor and a pretty high honor for people in this industry. This market is the cream of the crop. So good on Tanya Rivera for landing a job in arguably the most coveted local news station in the country.1 point

I feel bad for KFOX and especially KDBC-TV. The station really didn't deserve the treatment that it would get by Sinclair. Like KDBC had to deal with all of the problems since Pappas tried to make the station an Azteca America O&O (which is odd, because, isn't El Paso near the Mexico Border and some of the Mexican stations near El Paso airs Azteca programming?) which led to controversy about where would CBS go, then they aquired KDBC after Channel 4 continued with the affiliation with CBS. Then the deal with the Communications Corporation of America and KTSM-TV until 2013 when Nexstar aquired ComCorp and Sinclair bought some of the former Pappas stations. With that decreasing the chances to compete with KTSM and KVIA-TV as well as the Spanish-language stations. Also, I don't know if ARC Mornings is like Fox and Friends just for Sinclair.1 point

I agree that CBS has the best evening set of the three, but I'd say the previous morning studio at the Broadcast Center looked better. Back on topic, the area CBS still lacks aesthetically is graphics (across the board). If that improves, Evenings News will hands down be the best looking of the three broadcasts.1 point

Among all the instability and criticisms of Paramount and the CBSEN, I just wanted to give the program props for finally improving it's aesthetic. After years of the outdated brownish looking sets, the current evening news setup is the best among the big three broadcasts. The Weekend news set looks great with a contrast of dark blue and white with the Cronkite style map. Dimmer lighting and warm colors can do wonders. Similarly the Washington bureau set looks just as good, and the O&Os are getting some nice sets fashioned after KCAL. Steps in the right direction aesthetically.1 point

Well beyond time they got a new set and I say this was well worth the wait! It matches Florida and Jacksonville well, it's not super edgy like WJAX or WFOX but it doesn't have to be. It's honestly refreshing in this market! I love the wood and warmness of it and how much it relies on other elements other than video walls and not just the same tired trends like graphics or repeating stuff but using woods, the logo on set, the bricks, the overhead, a different floor patterns. Very unique to see a curved video wall, and honestly, that might be the best part, it's something few newscasts have used here in the states local or national, and for a market like Jacksonville, I'm all for it! Hope WXIA will get something similar.1 point

It is distinctive...not my cup of tea but the overhead bulkhead gives it some depth and gives the effect it's a larger space than it is. Elements that add depth and dimension to shots have been missing from a lot of designs the last 10 or so years as screens proliferated so nice they gave that some thought here.1 point

Pretty sure Alan was going to retire after 40 years no matter what. As I have said before, he and Cheryl had a good working relationship on-air and 'appeared' to be cordial with each other off the air. Unless someone writes a book, start a podcast, etc..., we will likely never know what issues Mark, Ron, etc.. had with her and vice-versa.1 point

Exactly. The old set had a brick texture and a loft apartment-style staircase giving it it depth. It looks cramped. The new set is not bad though, definitely ahead of WAGA and WANF.0 points

It’s not a bad set. But I think the previous set had more depth and character. The new set looks pretty flat.0 points

There can be an argument made for both cases. The argument in favor of bringing in the A team is that more people will be tuning into the news than usual on a Sunday, so the station wishes to highlight the main team (in this case Kristine/Maurice and Bill/Sade) as opposed to its weekend team. On the other hand, it can be a bit dramatic and unnecessary for stations to go out of their way to bring in a main anchor (like having Mike Marza come in when Joe and Tonya could've handled it just fine, same with bringing in Kristine and Maurice as opposed to Jessica Moore). I think WPIX handled it well at 10pm, Kaity anchored solo as usual but Dan was brought in not as coanchor, but as contributor to handle live interviews.0 points

I'm actually not a huge fan of how Studio 47 looks these days. Outside of the Cronkite-styled map, the whole backdrop looks pretty dark and cluttered most of the time. The anchor desk feels too informal, and the lone monitor standup shot looks cramped. The space doesn't have that commanding feel that the Rather and Couric era sets had. Maybe that's by design, but I think they could do better.0 points

Not just the CBSEN set but the Washington newsroom looks amazing too, especially when they show the various angles of it! Honestly, now that you say it, CBS does have the best look of the big three as far as the main newscasts' go, having great graphics and a great set, not only that but using that set with many shots. WNT does not even use it's set, simply using that one OTS shot the entire time and the graphics are outdated. NN has alright graphics, not the best but better than WNT but 1A brings it down.0 points

Not awful, Tega is usually not bad. But broken record...too barren, not enough furniture. At least the entire set isn't the video wall. The anchor desk shot is reminiscent of MSNBC and the 2014 Today show set. Seeing the entire set in the background of the main desk.0 points

I don't know if NBC is doing any coverage at all on their affiliates but every other network (even FOX) is on now with Joe Biden dropping out of the race. Does Nascar trump (no pun intended) any presidential news? NBC News NOW is covering it like a standard special report while MSNBC is being MSNBC.0 points

It's a decent set.. but there's waaay too much openness behind the anchor desk... not to my likings, but overall not too shabby0 points
