After years of being on the old Fox O&O set, KDFW is moving out of Downtown Dallas and to a new building in Irving. The project is expected to be complete in 2026.3 points

Just reading up on it, and it feels like CBS is trying to do what the CBC did with The National back in the fall of 2017 after Peter Mansbridge retired that summer (minus the 4 person rotation of anchors).3 points

Fingers crossed that WABC will finally have a great set! The View's current set is really good. Hopefully the new one is a replica or just as good. I'd really like to see them recreate the realistic living room set they had in their first few seasons2 points

The reasons why WNYW will never leave there buidling is because its historic in the networks keep there facilities of there flagship station in historic buildings just because of legacy they can just renovate instead of putting money into a expensive real estate project in New York. What WABC and ABC is doing is rare.2 points

NewsNet could have been something greater. I never understood why they never updated their graphics. They looked horrible and off putting. It looked so bad compared to MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, CNBC, NewsNation, etc..1 point

The "OG" WMNN stream is currently stuck on a loop of a few seconds of a sports report (something something HLS) with a 9:22AM CT/10:22 ET/etc. timestamp. Also, Remington Hernandez has also confirmed the closure on his Instagram. I've said quite a bit about NewsNet/MI News 26 over the years... It's unfortunate it ended this way. I thought the original MI News 26 idea was decent, I just don't think Cadillac had enough going on to really necessitate it. I had a bad feeling about the change to NewsNet and thought it was unfortunate so many resources got dumped into it vs. the localized version. I don't remember seeing much localized content on the other "O&O" stations, which was a little sad to see. I think they lost their way with the national concept, and it unfortunately caused the whole thing to crash down. Like the launch of the SportsNews Highlights channel just made zero sense to me. They seemed to be going after a market that no longer exists. All of their content was available from 1000 different sources, why would I bother with finding their channel on some odd low-power station that I probably can't even receive anyways? Hopefully, there's a chance for Eric Wotila to reclaim the Cadillac stations and pick up at least some of the pieces, and get some of those who lost their jobs today back to work.1 point

Wow, I didn't realize that they were actually going to have the new facility ready this soon. In my mind, I was assuming either around election time or in 2025. I wonder if ABC News will have a set in the new facility ready for the election.1 point

Fox 4 DFW just announced they are building a new station with construction to start soon but it will be a few years before they would move. https://www.fox4news.com/news/fox-4-build-new-studio-irving?utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1fSt3SbeSIvc566kkk_nWaBoeq0zM8HIeGtaMdL3jI5-DvDvqxuZEypSw_aem_lIeENiC8p_5PZbnhS4j3BA#lzctb1cis3ovmu4wscl1 point

They needed a logo update... but not this.. blah... Also I wonder if this means that KBTX is around the corner too.. Both stations already have the GrayOne Weather Graphics but old graphics packages... Hmmmm1 point

Is that why local TV stations hardly ever seem to promote the diginets on their other subchannels?1 point

Good evening I'm John Dickerson, let's get things right over to First National Alert Chief Meteorologist Lonnie Quinn who is in our Virtual Weather Dome 3000 brought to you by Pfizer who is tracking First Alert's in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Fresno.......New York, and Albany, New York. What's the weather like Lonnie?1 point

Wondering that too: will Maurice leave WCBS? Breaking news and traveling for national stories might limit his WCBS position unless they have Dickerson handling that. Then again...in the 60s, as mentioned before, CBS anchors also carried national duties. On NBC in the 90s, Matt Lauer and Al Roker held positions on Today and WNBC's Live at 5 simultaneously. Double duty is possible, the exception is Lauer & Roker weren't NBC's main anchors. True. In all fairness WNT, NNN, and CBSEN are nearly identical so taking a page from PBS shouldn't be too awful.1 point

Will Lonnie Quinn handle the CBS Deals portion of the Evening News or will Gayle handle that?1 point
-
This is doing news on the cheap, circa 2024. Asking existing talent to double up, triple up on their duties. Will their contracts be adjusted accordingly for the added workloads? Notice there are no outside hires, no poaching another anchor for millions. This may all be a placeholder anyway. The network’s news division in its current form is probably in doubt post Paramount sale to Skydance.1 point

CBS also had Connie Chung as the first Asian-American to co-anchor the Evening News and she didn't stick around too long either. Let's see what this looks like when it airs.1 point

I see your point on Dickerson. I don't think sexism has any basis here. Very few news anchor teams are dual male anymore in this country. On two stints CBS had failed solo female anchors (Couric, O'Donnell), so we can't say they didnt try. Not to mention Gayle King, Jane Pauley and Margaret Brennan in leading anchor roles. At this point it's cool to see two males behind the anchor desk because it's so foreign. I think this instance is less about representation and more about who can carry the broadcast.1 point

Nowhere, likely just the usual; 480i widescreen CW+ on 12.3 to replace Laff (or 12.4 because 12.1 is SD for some reason), HD on cable/IPTV.1 point

Regarding CBS and WNCN. Media General offered CBS scale at the time since they were a larger group and WRAL was a one station mom and pop shop. But in the local market, WRAL gave NBC the gift of a lifetime in instant ratings success in a market where NBC has suffered eternally while CBS got a good deal with a larger broadcaster that had an also-ran station in the same market. Moral of the story is that the parent company who paid the network bill is what matters to CBS. That's what reverse compensation has done to the local station industry. NBC took a small sacrifice to gain a lot there.1 point

14 hours ago, Rusty Muck said: Oh come on, it's academic. If one actually pays attention, the only reason why WTTV and WNCN are even CBS affiliates is because Tribune (at the time for the former) and Nexstar were willing to paid hefty fees to affiliate with CBS. Paramount held all the cards here and you cannot deny that. If one actually pays attention...Nexstar did not own WNCN when the CBS affiliate agreement was signed. It was a Media General station. In addition, WNCN hooked up with CBS because WRAL dumped CBS and NBC took the opportunity to pair up with the #1 station in the market. CBS didn't have a lot of options because outside of WRAL/WRAZ and WTVD, the rest of the stations are poorly viewed. WNCN was the best of the worst. That's not to say Media General had a lot of options on their end either. So they were essentially stuck with each other. Have the terms of the deal been released? Or have you read the agreement?1 point

Both of you, @Rusty Muck @The Frog, I don't want to hear anymore from either of you, tonight. The whole thread should not have to be locked because of this pissing match. Both of you have been around here long enough to know better. I'd appreciate if you both respected this request. Log off, cool off, and have a good evening.1 point

No doubt whatever they do will be on the cheap. I think CBS News at the national and local level have given up on trying to compete. The strategy is to make money in third place.1 point

So now CBS will be looking for their 5th or 6th anchor for the Evening News in a 20-year span. Is Shepard Smith doing anything? I feel like he would be a good hire at this point if CBS were to go that route.1 point

Will you please stop spouting nonsense and word salads, especially since you don't sight your sources, have no clue what you're talking about, and only seem to post just to hear yourself talk? Thank you. With all that said, let's move on and have someone with more insider knowledge talk more about the 2024-25 syndication season1 point

What I don't understand is why WXMI let 3 mets go in less than 1/2 a year... Each of the girls that left (with the exception of Haleigh i believe) were told their positions weren't needed, yet they have a posting for a weekend meteorologist. Candace could have easily filled that spot seeing that she just came back from maternity leave... There's something fishy going on there....1 point

Because people pay extra attention to weekend weather by and large. Pretty simple. Lots of plans that can be significantly impacted—sports events, family gatherings, day trips, et al.1 point

Phil Lipof former WABC morning anchor left to go to Boston and then went on to return back to ABC to work for ABC news. He went from Local to National so I don't think that is always the case.. Also non-meteorlogist / weathercaster who learned on the job, Sam Champion a very unique case, went from Local to National back to Local and back to National again. So while it is far and few, it does happen.. And also with all due respect, New York by no means is a downgrade. Landing a job in the in the nation's top market is pretty much an honor and a pretty high honor for people in this industry. This market is the cream of the crop. So good on Tanya Rivera for landing a job in arguably the most coveted local news station in the country.1 point

With all the breaking news Mike Marza was brought in to anchor with Joe Torres tonight. And before anyone says anything about commenting anchor coverage. Tanya Rivero (who is the new weekend anchor with Joe) was also in studio covering the breaking developments and seemed to be the “3rd” anchor for the Biden coverage.1 point

Several network correspondents have left their jobs for anchor roles at local stations in major markets. The pay is comparable or in most cases better, hours are predictable, and there’s no travel required. For plenty of people, especially those with families, all of those things can be more important that just having a national profile. Bill Ritter, Liz Cho, and Rob Nelson all did this, leaving ABC News to join WABC as anchors. Before returning to ABC News, Whit Johnson had left CBS News for an anchor/reporter role at KNBC. There are countless other examples.1 point

Tanya Rivero was just introduced as their new weekend evening anchor by Bill Ritter before she reported a story. She had most recently been at CBS and previously anchored ABC WNN (World News Now), which Liz Cho once anchored many years ago, (obviously). I still remember being pleasantly surprised when she showed up on air on the local news.1 point
