  1. It seems more like a compromise. Brand the station as FOX to satisfy the network and the longtime viewers used to "Fox 6" ingrained in their heads. Otherwise, play out the WBRC 6 heritage in the new branding to let Gray do their "local first" thing.... They've always done a great job of branding with the red WBRC, tied to their visible sign on their building on Red Mountain. Working the old "6" in there is even better.

  2. Adam is the next to go as he can't fire anyone under him anymore as he fired the COO a couple of weeks ago. Adam needs to go as tape news has been an epic failure in my opinion.

  3. A bit, I watched This Morning recently and there was a panel at 5 in the morning, seriously? I just woke up, I want the headlines not some talking heads talking about the same stories that I knew when I went to bed, and I think thats the problem with the weekday This Morning, it's too stiff, too political.

  4. If it gets bad enough, that gives the networks the right to void their agreement(s) and yank their affiliations because Allen would be in default of any particular agreement. While it wasn't said why WBNX lost the CW in 2018, financial default by their owners (Winston Broadcast/Ernest Angley) may have been the impetus since their agreement with them was to last through 2021. If this was to happen, it would be a great speculatron thread. Not a lot of local options in their markets given the feelings the FCC has towards networks seeking subchannel space on another station.

  5. I'm sure the United Center brought in extra cell towers to handle the increased load, but they're undoubtedly still getting slammed. And trying to talk over an iffy connection with all the background noise of a full arena? Yeah, that's not even worth attempting.

  6. Confusingly, despite the Fox name being dropped from the news branding, the new on-screen bug kept the old “WBRC Fox 6 News” branding in the new logo style and old design layout. So, either this was an oversight or Gray wasn’t sure that Fox would give approval for the station to remove the network’s branding when GrayONE was being retrofitted for WBRC’s use, and the original intention was to keep the previous title in place before Fox gave them the greenlight to alter the station’s branding.

  8. The Scripps “neighborhood reporter” is just a reimagined beat reporter or a bureau reporter from the old days. What’s old is new again. Whatever you call the concept, I think it’s a good thing because it encourages journalists to become specialists (for lack of better word) in the community they cover. That usually leads to better stories. The difference is whether Scripps will stick with the idea or ditch it. And with the way the Scripps stock price has dropped? The odds are more likely that CEO Adam Symson — the architect of the “neighborhood reporter” concept — will be out of a job and a new person will come in and change things up.

  9. I wouldn't speak in absolutes because CBS astoundingly greenlit a new soap opera in 2024, but I definitely see your point.

  10. 0% chance it would work. Maybe less than zero were that mathematically possible.

  11. Plus would mandating it work? CBS Daytime has a full slate as is, meaning even less affiliate time.

  12. I promise you reporters are in the building more than you think, and they certainly aren't going to a Starbucks to work on their stories.

  13. The 17 FOX O&O stations in question are those that make up FOX Local. Pluto joins the list of others (Roku, Samsung, etc...) that feature these channels.

  14. Katie most definitely has the chops for hard news, no question. David Muir is not bad at all, his broadcast is bad. Many here have actually said David's versatility would be suited for GMA compared to George Stephanopolus.

  15. Katie and Diane both come from hard news backgrounds. Katie is not “more of a talk show host”. Her talk show with ABC failed.

  16. Katie (Katherine then) was the Pentagon correspondent for NBC and was co-anchor of the much more buttoned up Sunday Today program. She also commanded hours of NBC’s coverage during Columbine, 9/11, London subway bombings, Hurricane Katrina, etc. She also held an impromptu interview with Bush senior that was well regarded. CBSEN didn’t work out for her but she has the chops for serious news. Statements like this might give her comments on sexism a bit of credence. In my opinion, David Muir is one of the worst anchors to grace any of the evening newscasts but you seldom hear criticism that he’s better suited for GMA, which he arguably was when Diane retired.

  17. How were they able to hide that from DirecTV for two and a half years? Did they just send a dummy WHAG feed with NBC programming still on it from master control for their eyes only, or was DirecTV just that in the dark; you'd think engineering or an angry call center viewer from the area would've told them 'yeah, they aren't carrying NBC any longer we might need to check into this'.

  18. Looks like just the 5pm is moving to the virtual studio. The other shows will still most likely be in the new KCAL copied set.

  19. Hagerstown is in the Washington, DC market, so DirecTV carried the station throughout the spot beam, essentially serving as an alternate for WRC.

  20. i hate HATE HATE VR sets. Is this the beginning of the end? I surely hope not. They are the norm in Germany and the've always looked like crap. Its just a cheap way to get out of building physical sets. Boring.

  22. I'm sure the expenses the Chicago stations incurred for the RNC in Milwaukee weren't as big as it's just up the road. Likewise I'm sure the expenses incurred by the Milwaukee TV stations won't be as big if they send people to the DNC in Chicago. Again it's just down the road.

  26. What happened in New Orleans was clearly more for corporate reasons being owned by TEGNA, they got away with airing Eyewitness Morning News under Belo. As for this 3rd hour of CBS Mornings, considering what kinda content is planned for the 3rd hour, I'd think KCBS (Los Angeles) which simulcast the live East Coast airing, will probably stick to their local news at 6AM which also airs on KCAL, & just show the 3rd hour at 9AM Pacific. Here in Phoenix, I could see KPHO air it & bump The Price is Right to an hour later at 10 with Hot Bench possibly going over to sister indy KTVK, which is where the AZ Family lifestyle show Your Life Arizona airs.
