KTVT, WBZ, and WCBS are all dumping their 9ams for Drew. Meanwhile, everyone who’s keeping their 9ams (WFOR, KPIX, KCNC, KYW and WBBM) are extending or have already extended them to one hour while airing Drew at 2pm or 3pm. Not counting WCCO and WJZ as they already had pre-existing 9am newscasts.3 points

It's definitely a subtle update. To Hearst's credit, at least it's not a dramatic change for viewers and maintains consistency.2 points

Adam is the next to go as he can't fire anyone under him anymore as he fired the COO a couple of weeks ago. Adam needs to go as tape news has been an epic failure in my opinion.2 points

Do Nicole Wallace and Joy Reid hosts their MSNBC shows from a remote studio outside of 30 Rock? Their shows use the tightest shots with reflections on the screens behind them. Also anyone know what studio Jen Psaki led the evening coverage from after this week’s DNC? It almost seemed like a virtual set.1 point

You captured my thoughts perfectly. While it’s nice to see Cindy back at noon permanently (almost 20 years after she was demoted off the anchor desk), I am sad to see the 9:00 a.m. newscast is being cancelled. Cindy really put her heart and soul into it (in fact, it could have been called The Cindy Hsu Show). Maybe I’m being optimistic, but perhaps Cindy will have a role on the early evening newscasts when Maurice starts anchoring the CBS Evening News. We still have no idea how the move will impact Maurice’s role at WCBS, although the press release indicated that Maurice (and Lonnie) will both continue to be a presence on WCBS. But, I don’t know how Maurice could do the 5 and 6:00 p.m. newscasts if he is anchoring the Evening News.1 point

I’m old enough to remember the hand-wringing that occurred when KRON-TV in San Francisco publicly embraced the MMJ concept as a cost-cutting move. After all, one-man-bands were for small-and-cheap markets, not top-ten markets! But look what happened in the following two decades. MMJs are everywhere, even in New York City (and I’m not just referring to NY1), and they’re not going away. Other broadcast companies will follow Scripps’ lead if it means saving money. That includes anchor-less newscasts, pre-recorded newscasts, etc. This kind of cost-cutting may very well hurt the business. But the people who drove the metaphorical Titanic into the metaphorical iceberg don’t seem to care.1 point

In regards to WCCO (Minneapolis) & WJZ (Baltimore) as well, they're in markets where Drew airs on another station.1 point

Cindy Hsu and John Elliott were given a chance to briefly thank viewers for tuning in at 9 a.m. the last two years. Sounds like the entire show is ending and will not continue on streaming, even though they made it a point to add live news in the 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. hours in the past year. It appears Cindy will be the noon anchor. For the last year or so (probably more), Chris and Mary would alternate anchoring solo, and often anyone filling in in the morning would be given the noon duties that day. It'll be nice having a set anchor there again. Just stinks to lose the 9 a.m. show. It was built around Cindy's personality and being positive and helpful. Now I wonder if the "Start With Kindness" tips will stay. I hope so.1 point

The beat/neighborhood reporter concept is fine, I'm just not a fan of the multimedia journalist role. From First-hand experience MMJing sucks. You can't focus on wrting the story or contacting sources because you're also juggling driving, filming, ingesting, and editing all in a 4-5 hour period. To Scripps' credit, they have raised salaries to compensate for the increased responsibilities that MMJs have. But the growing roles of a reporter without the aid of a cameraman is a large reason why turnover is so high and recruitment seems to be struggling industry wide. I'll give Scripps its credit for trying something new with Scrippscasts, but I don't think what they're doing is particularly great. They are stripping broadcasts down to the bare bones in order to create a cheaper product. One of the biggest draw factors to television and news is personality. By removing the anchors from the broadcast and replacing them with a generic Scrippscast filled with interchangeable reporters, you get rid of that major element. Yes, we have to experiment with formatting, but I hope Scrippscasts aren't widely adopted across the industry.1 point

It's better than their previous graphics... But I miss the Hearst diagrid.. You can see bits of it here and there, but it's still pretty good...1 point

Has the quality of Drew's show improved for it to not be canceled yet? What was the purpose of the half hour format again? CBS is launching a soap opera in The Talk's slot in 2025, with The Talk ending in December. I question how a third hour of CBS Mornings would fit on the schedule with Drew in the way. Hopefully Judge Judy reruns stay for a long time to come.1 point

Your stuff looks good! I taught broadcasting last year part time while working full time as a reporter at a tv station. I reached out to Stephen Arnold at the beginning of last year and they gave us a license for Lighthouse and access to The Vault For our projects/newscast. I’ve since quit both jobs and am in the process of starting my own streaming news/weather website for the county I live in. Both with my project and when teaching, Stephen Arnold Music was very supportive and helpful. I actually just licensed Frequency for my operation. If you have a budget, I encourage you to reach out to Jeff Ryan at SAM and see what they can do to help you!!1 point

Beginning in September, it sounds like the 9am newscast (at least on air; perhaps it will survive on streaming) is being replaced by the hour long Drew Barrymore. https://www.nexttv.com/news/drew-barrymore-renewed-through-season-six-on-cbs-owned-stations1 point

Ugh these corporate group graphics are becoming more and bland and boring. Geez. With the automated rundowns and lockdown cameras and bland samey theme music. Todays newscasts are BORING.1 point

And in another twist, KTVT is canceling its 9 a.m. newscast in favor of running a full hour of The Drew Barrymore Show. (And adding an hour of news at 7 a.m. on KTXA.) I wonder when the third hour of CBS Mornings debuts what the schedule adjustments will be like.1 point

The production and talent on sub 100 market newscasts seems so much better back in the day compared to today. CBS News is releasing higher quality archival footage of historic events relevant to today's news stories.1 point

A bit, I watched This Morning recently and there was a panel at 5 in the morning, seriously? I just woke up, I want the headlines not some talking heads talking about the same stories that I knew when I went to bed, and I think thats the problem with the weekday This Morning, it's too stiff, too political.1 point

After reading that article, the biggest red flag for me is that I don't understand Licht's vision for CNN. What is the mission and purpose of the news organization? A clear mission statement is often a rallying point for culture change. After spending time with that lengthy profile, you don't walk away with a crystal-clear picture of where he wants to take the channel. I understand what he's against, like boxes...he hates boxes to the point that the control room can say it in unison. He seemingly spends a lot of time trashing anything that was built in Zucker's vision. Fine. You don't like how he managed the channel. But what is your vision? Staff and ultimately viewers need more than a generic "under new management" type message. Here's the unfortunate reality for CNN; the competition has defined identities, and they don't. MSNBC captured the liberal lane. FOX, from its inception, laid claim to the conservative lane. So that leaves CNN to claim the middle. While the center of the ideological spectrum is a huge potential audience, it isn't exactly an audience that shows up night after night for cable news. The other two channels have built in audiences looking to see what mud their favorite host is going sling in the opposite direction. To me, the middle isn't a long-term solution. You are just Fox lite to one group and you are MSNBC lite to the other. Stand for something different! In my opinion, CNN should transform its primetime into storytelling and original reporting. Two of the most watched shows on television (broadcast or cable) are 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning. Each do in-depth original reporting and that old-school style reporting gets people talking. And given CNN doesn't have the same time constraints as 60 minutes, you could air the report and then bring the reporter (and other appropriate guests) in for a debrief. Plus, it gets you out of covering politics every night. This is a huge country, there are plenty of stories to tell beyond the political ones. That is just one of a dozen different directions CNN could go. It is a costly and time-intensive idea, so it might not feasible. But at least it is a clear vision, something in 15,000 words I didn't get from the head of CNN.1 point

So stoked about Jane Pauley anchoring tonight! Saw her preview on the 5pm news here in Chicago.1 point

Totally agree. The current slanted graphics look better. Speaking of boring, from watching multiple Hearst stations across Florida including WPBF and WESH, the newscasts are plain. I don't know if anyone watching other Hearst markets feel similar? In all fairness, Hearst appears to be a well-funded, clean looking product but a lot of their newscasts are devoid of any flavor. Instead of WESH I find myself tuning into WOFL Fox 35 because they have more creative and active newscasts. The Fox O&Os are particularly good at trying to break the mold of traditional newscasts.0 points

As I turned the TV on when I got home from work, CBS News Miami is expanding the 9am news to an hour starting Monday. That means The Drew Barrymore Show will move to 3pm for an hour0 points
