Not starting a new thread over it, but KUSA has adopted the new open first seen on WXIA.2 points

You know I'm glad you brought up sexism word a word that often used to much and loses meaning. I have been waiting for someone to bring this up see personally I thought some white female would bring up sexism with the 2 male co-anchors getting the job and my feeling was at some point there’d be so much outrage CBS will cave and that they'll end up demoting Maurice and keeping John Dickerson. Because personally I believe the feminst movement has been detrimental to black men (especially when it's perpetrated by white females) and since Mauruce doesn't have a huge profile they'd let him go though and keep Dickerson but maybe they let him go too. These 2 qualified people deserve it. Now obviously this is theory in my head but I knew someone would try to make a big deal out of this new lineup, and I knew it be done white female and Im glad it was brought up in this forum.2 points

WCBS could bring in Cindy Hsu to anchor the 5pm slot with Kristine and Kristine would do the 6pm slot alone, with Maurice doing the 11pm slot.2 points

I don't feel the frontline people in SBG outside the ones who advertise they're there because of the c-suite's views are that at all. Like the big gas station chain in Wisconsin, they give a lot of GOP money but the actual people working in the gas stations may share views, but it's not why they got a job there at all. It's a stupid business decision to dump a network in another language that lets you only need to fill five hours of time a week for a lineup of declining English syndication surrounded by Blazers and (eventually I'm sure) other local sports. And I hope Univision gets an equal affiliate that isn't 260 miles away and requires LD stations to get to the city's main market. But it isn't racist. They ruined a relationship burnished by Fisher to make in-roads with a community that wasn't often seen, just because they wanted to air sports, The CW, and have an overflow station for their news coverage (which for KATU and KOMO I will argue trades on appalling self-hating of Washington, Oregon, and its citizens...all of them). They lose that loyal audience that won't come back outside Blazer telecasts, and that own audience ain't gonna be loyal viewers of ARC Portland, AMG court shows and probably 50 episodes of Family Feud a week or whatever surrounds it. It's not a racist move, but just a plain idiotic move when KPDX, KRCW, or even KGWZ (KGW's LD sister carrying ODOT/weather 24/7) would've been much better partners that don't require you to buy or find 156 more hours of programming a week and run a failure of an indie around the NBA. Honestly I wish the NBA would've made arrangements like the Padres, D-Backs and Rockies did for streaming and cable, but they have a different strategy, and they don't care whether nobody is watching KUNP the rest of the day, just during the game, and the team is definitely selling the online streaming much more in this arrangement.1 point

It should be interesting to see what they end up doing if Devlin is promoted to main anchor, fill-in anchor, or perhaps even weekend anchor (if they wanted to pair someone with Jessica Moore). I think viewers would react much better to a Kristine and Cindy or Kristine and Dick pairing, compared to a random new guy, but we'll see what WCBS has up their sleeves. Also, long day for Mary Calvi yesterday. She anchored morning, noon with Cindy (until 12:30 when Doug Williams was brought in), and 5pm with Dick Brennan.1 point

The problem is Scripps News was a droplet in a swimming pool. So many other outlets already provide 24/7 national news not to mention the nationalization of local newscasts. How much of the same can exist before the bubble bursts?1 point

Set debuted at noon yesterday. I didn't realize their studio was on the smaller side....1 point

Craig is a great option next to Savannah but I almost want them to take a big swing at an outsider like they did with Meredith Vieira.1 point
-
I kinda think they're going to keep him on News Now until Lester leaves, then he takes helm of the Nightly anchor chair.1 point
-
The old format you speak of is somewhat dated now. They should dump the 4th Hour. If they want to keep Jenna, then elevate her to the third hour if they're going to keep her and if she still wants a full-time role. Savannah's profile has risen even more now as she is about to get her Third co-anchor and will have the top billing over the second one. Technically, Hoda was more senior as she had been on the TODAY Show since 2007. But soon, aside from Al, she will be the second longest person on the show in January.1 point
-
Honestly not a terrible idea given he's suddenly on the market. Even elevating Craig to co-host and bringing Glor in as News/Headline anchor wouldn't be terrible given he has the "breakfast show" experience with CTM Saturday, and "hard news" experience with Evening News. Also comes with at least *some* name recognition.1 point
-
I am not surprised that Hoda is leaving the show. She had left the Olympics several days before they finished. One of her daughters was recently, or a while back, seriously ill and in the hospital. I imagine she wants to spend more time with them, especially in the morning. Hoda said she just turned 60 and has two little girls. I imagined It would have been a different decision if she had been 40-50 and had no kids. It's good to hear she won't be leaving the network altogether, so we will probably see her on the show once in a while, perhaps even filling in the forms from time to time. About who will replace her: They will probably elevate Craig to co-anchor. They should bring Amy Robach back to NBC and make her the TODAY Show news anchor, along with a prime spot on Dateline. That would be a good redemption story. She left NBC all those years ago because her career was basically going nowhere. She was doing very well at ABC with the co-anchor job at 20/20 and would likely be Robin Roberts's successor on GMA at some point, but then she was fired. I don't see them permanently elevating Craig (to co-anchor) and Sheinelle (news anchor) in the 7-9 hours. Perhaps they have Sheinelle replace Hoda in the 4th hour. It would be cool if they brought Natalie back to be the news anchor with the Talk ending in December, but I doubt that will happen. She's pretty set in the California/Hollywood (not saying in a bad way) ways now, and I don't see her moving back to NYC at least any time soon. She also has a good correspondent Job at 48 Hours, which she seems to be enjoying, and once the Talk ends, she will probably focus more time on that and get a more significant role.1 point
-
Wow so she's also leaving the 4th hour! Unexpected. I'm sure this means Craig Melvin will become the co-host. As others have said Sheinelle as news reader. Long shot but I would like to see Today completely revamped. Get back to some of the pre 2014 formatting. The 3rd and 4th hours are bleh but I wonder who will take over the 4th hour. I have never felt Savannah as co-anchor but her profile has risen, as she earned her stripes on Breaking News/political coverage so she won't be moved.1 point

They just started the newscast just over a year ago and are now reducing the hours.1 point

Easiest moves would be to elevate Craig Melvin to co-anchor, Sheinelle Jones to news anchor and co-host of 4th hour. would mean changes to 3rd hour (at a minimum replacing Sheinelle). Wouldn’t be surprised though if they leave everyone and bring in someone from outside. Maybe Jeff Gloor??1 point

Lets not over do it with news out put. KTLA is already doing that unfortunately. Alternative programming options are needed on broadcast.1 point

That's disappointing. He was a good fit for CBS Saturday Mornings, and the ratings have been quite strong. Bounced from CBS Evening News and yet another anchor position at the network.1 point

I would have thought that the Blazers would have gone with Gray as well, but probably the financials didn't add up to make it viable for both parties. Beyond Gray and Sinclair, the other options in Portland were rather limited, between Tegna (KGW), Nexstar (KOIN/KRCW), and even Ion/Scripps. Through all of the different TV partners they've had over the years, the Blazers have always handled their on-air production in-house, so it shouldn't have any remnants of Bally Sports graphics or production styles in their telecasts. Although I'm not a fan of this team, I've checked out the reactions of Blazers fans on Reddit and a couple of their team blogs...there are quite a few that aren't happy with the Sinclair association. Never mind that Sinclair is only providing the outlets to air games, while the team is handling the broadcast infrastructure internally.1 point
-
I'm more shocked that finally after so many years, the Blazers are finally ditching their weird love of pay-per-view broadcasts and cable, which they've been insistent on for years, probably only because most cable providers just don't do PPV any longer outside the satellite companies who still love rural WWE viewers who are naive and will hand off $50/event, or will not pay for Peacock and Starlink. They went kicking and screaming all the way to the end before returning to broadcast, but I get the feeling they'll promote the DTC service much more than KUNP. As for Univision, here we go again with the same issues their Seattle viewers faced last year. Unlike Seattle which got Weigel to take it on KVOS, there are no full-power options for the network unless they convince Scripps/KPXG or Gray/KPDX to take main-channel carriage.1 point

Last year we had ESPN graphics on The CW, and this year it’s NBC. The network aired its first NASCAR Xfinity Series race this past weekend and this season’s races are entirely an NBC production before NASCAR and The CW take over producing the races and hiring talent for 2025 and beyond. (not sure if we want all CW stuff here or in a separate thread).1 point

Not saying it’s hasn’t happen at all in the last 10ish years but going forward it going to become much more rare for markets to lose or gain countries. If you’re in a market that has moved in rankings 2 or 3 spots it’s far more likely it’s because population changes in the main urban/ suburban areas and cord-cutters/streaming and not because of markets losing or gaining counties that are in far reaches and are mainly rural areas.1 point
-
I can't imagine there have been many counties have switched DMA's since the digital transition and HD becoming mainstream, even if cable systems have out of market stations most likely it's not in HD. Satellite (for the most part) and streamers only have in market stations. Living in a newer neighborhood the in-market stations are 40 miles away and a neighboring market 60ish miles away, there are a few neighbors that have antenna setups, all are pointed to the in-market stations with antennas barely over roof tops, there is no way they could get any out-of-market station, they would need a large fringe antenna on a tower. Cable cutters are going more to towards streaming than antenna anyways, it has been harder to keep track of streaming because people add and drop services all the time. You also have to account for different demographics, older people typically subscribe to cable in higher numbers, younger, and Hispanic is lower along with areas with more transplants.1 point

WXMI Fox17 puts the High Football Biltz on Sat Mornings since Fox has put Friday Night College Football on. I agree time for Fox to give the Market place out of its misery as MrsChimpF said Fox17 has always put that in the graveyard at 2AM to 4AM.1 point

Didn't I read that CBS owned stations are moving to single anchors. That probably means DuBois won't be replaced at 5 and 6, and he may anchor alone at 11.1 point

Props to turning that one weekend of a different version of the theme into a fun little play on true crime shows. That was a fun way to present it. I do remember hearing it when it debuted and kind of doing a “huh?” type expression…and then moved on with my life. Honestly, it never would have entered my mind to go to the effort of calling to complain about theme music. Clearly, I am part of a very different group of people. I get change can be a little noticeable. Heck the first day WPVI was using the newsroom for their weekend shows a few weeks back, my oft’ oblivious kid did that same kind of “huh?” expression, proceeded to look up that they’re building a new set and promptly moved on with life. Might as well say, I’m also someone who didn’t care a lick that the weather “clouds” with messages finally went away. In and of itself, I don’t get the angst over the theme. Life moves on, it was just a different recording of the same tune. But I get they got swamped and decided not to go back down that road again. And now are goofing on it.1 point

New on air for ABC with the wind down of the network app (Disney TV apps and local station live streaming all shutdown September 23), promos now prominently show Hulu with ABC on the right-hand bug. You have to wonder with the former, a rebrand to ABC+ to tie into Disney+ and ESPN+ will occur after they get the Comcast interest.1 point

He used to fill a lot, but I have a feeling that some of the co-hosts didn't like him filling in, especially since he went from NBC to ABC and back to NBC and becoming second in command. He seems to be less likeable than when he was at ABC.0 points

The News anchor on Today does quick a read through of national headlines at the top of the 7 and 8 am hours. Basically what Ann Curry did. The co-anchor hosts the program, conducts most interviews and introduces correspondent packages. The news anchor role has diminished because the anchors now introduce most stories. Previously, anchors introduced stories that would lead to a larger topic analysis segment.0 points

Is there a reason for the cancelation of the 4am news? If they really wanted to compete with news, I was just suggesting they add more newscasts and move other programs to 9.6. I do believe there's too much news on tv in Los Angeles, but many of the other programs that are shown are not that interesting to watch.0 points

While not a dispute, this could be a future problem for network affiliates. More and more money for less in return. https://tvnewscheck.com/business/article/will-stations-revolt-over-network-payments/ Let's just say Nexstar has had it coming ever since they started shaking down cable companies for carriage dollars.0 points

Exactly. Why not just say CW 33 Miami? Significantly smoother. CBS is also terrible at wordy brandings. And the call letters and license city don't need to be at the bottom of the logo, it's an eyeful.0 points

Maybe they should rebrand kcop and put more local news on the station. If another company like Disney which owns kabc owned kcop, they would probably add more newscasts to kcop. Otherwise, fox should put or produce more shows like tmz on kicop.0 points
