The video really highlights things. It was a massive endeavor. However, I still think the lighting is off and everything looks washed out.2 points

Its still months away. However, WVUE has already shown you its new home right here. Reminder: WVUE sold their old building to Xavier University as they'll move to mid-city near I-10. Unfortunately, its still not ready before the New Orleans Super Bowl. https://www.fox8live.com/video/2025/02/06/take-sneak-peak-fox-8s-new-home/ EDIT: It shows both their new studios on this one: one for main news and weather, another for NOLA NOW and GCSEN.1 point

That was probably because Fox had the Hell’s Kitchen season finale they had to air beforehand. The NFL Honors also rotates between the four Super Bowl broadcasters, with that year’s rightsholder to the game also airing the Honors (except in 2022 and 2023).1 point

Sort of a lateral move for them since the other set was on the "blah" side. I think the lighting will be better on this one since you could see the glare of the lights on the monitor array during dark images. At least it's not the bus-station/bank branch look of some of their past sets....the "Gray-Hound" look....1 point

Wow that is a nothing set. Yawn. And the lighting is Yeesh. But i guess for them....congrats on the new building.1 point

Well that was the 5pm report. Here's the 4pm report where Lauren McCoy said in just a few short months. I should've included this too for reference.1 point

You misheard that, as the anchor said their new studio is just a few blocks away [from their soon-to-be-former home near Xavier University of Louisiana]. The intent was always to have the place ready in time for Super Bowl Sunday, and by the looks of things, they're set to start broadcasting from there no later than after the game is over on Sunday. There's another one going around claimed to be a test from a satellite backhaul but it looks so absolutely plain that I don't think Fox would do it.1 point

I just noticed this... for WJW's 75th anniversary last year, they have a shop. The coolest is a T-shirt featuring all past WJW general and news-related logos and that's probably THE item to get. https://fox8shop.1stplacespiritwear.com/sites/OH/Cleveland/Fox 8 https://fox8shop.1stplacespiritwear.com/sites/OH/Cleveland/Fox+8/product.html?sku=I7S114683T1206L1D11970&category=Mens1 point

I just noticed this on the WSVN schedule. The hell? Already, this throws WSVN's Noon and 4pm news out the water for tomorrow. Why are they doing this when they have FS1 for this?1 point

WCTV 6 just got the new GrayOne graphics today! I recorded the update from Zeam to capture the changes. It’s interesting to see more stations rolling out the new look. Has anyone else noticed this? What do you think of the new design? They have also gotten new music. " Screen_Recording_20250206_171404_Samsung Internet.mp41 point

"WTAP in Parkersburg, WV, has started using the First Alert Weather brand, and I noticed GrayOne elements in their forecast graphics. I took a few screenshots from WTAP’s YouTube channel to document the change. Could this be a sign that GrayOne is coming to WTAP? I just hope they keep Newswire! Has anyone else noticed this update?"1 point

The fall of WFRV's web efforts from their CBS days, including a livestream page that doesn't even load and is under the 'Digital Center' category like it's 1999 and CueCat is the future is a case study on how badly they've done (the page points to another page called Video Center in the same vertical, itself literally a clone of their YouTube page, just with the janky Nexstar player instead). I completely forget they exist because Nexstar's apps and websites are just so bad as glorified web wrappers, and even their Twitter presence is terrible and was always underdeveloped (they had one of their news anchors running the feed under Four Points management!). The station brands as Local 5, yet their app is named WFRVNews and the website is WeAreGreenBay.com; it's no wonder it would be a last place operation if not for WGBA (which at least is NBC26 everywhere, and WBAY and WLUK have the same branding consistency). And they acquired Frankly in the MG deal, a known good news site developer; how did they manage to screw it all up so badly?1 point
-
Several Nexstar stations do a lot of digital efforts (i.e. WKRGNow) which amount to a totally separate set of newscasts at different times of the day when their main ones are not broadcasting. It's a lot of effort that's stuck in an archaic method of delivery (web streaming) and can be leveraged through OTT platforms. And many of the stations Nexstar took over (especially Media General and Tribune) had robust efforts that were squandered in favor of broadcast-only methods and trying to squeeze every penny out of the pay-tv companies. Media General had a large presence on NewsOn before Nexstar took them over. Many Tribune stations even had their own streaming Roku and FireTV apps.1 point

As I thought that WTXF license would be renewed, and that Media & Democracy didn't have a case to begin with and only did this stunt to get attention and get people to donate for the cause. I thought this wasn't going to renew until the new FCC came into power but I was glad that the old FCC renewed it as their final act., And scolded not just MAD but other groups on 60 Minutes and I didn't know that the ABC O&O in Philly also got a complaint as well.1 point

The Fox affiliate in Rochester, MN is valued at $495,000. I know the market is small, but that's not much money. I presume a good chunk of that is tied up in being the local home of the Vikings.1 point

The FCC has renewed WTXF's license, swatting down Media and Democracy Project's challenge with ease: https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-25-57A1.txt The upside is that the settlement in the Smartmatic case can't be considered because it doesn't rise to the level of a criminal conviction, and even if it did, lying on cable news isn't severe enough to affect broadcast license ownership as per the 1st Amendment. (The FCC refused to due MAD's homework in combing over the WTXF archives for objectionable material.)1 point

A new year means new lineup pairings at WTVG Toledo now that Diane Larson has retired. Kristian Brown has taken over Diane's 11:00pm and now, it'll be Sashem Brey who'll trade her longtime morning post for the evening post at 5:00 and 6:00pm (Kristian continues at 5:30pm). https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.13abc.com/2024/12/31/13-action-news-announces-new-anchor-lineup-2025/%3foutputType=amp1 point

CBS Sports tribute to Greg Gumbel narrated by colleague JB that aired during halftime of the first game of the HBCU college basketball doubleheader today & likely to be shown again tomorrow on The NFL Today.1 point

It is a win, small as it is, but the wins will not last. Broadcast's monopoly as THE place for live sports is no more. It's still the number-one reason why people watch broadcast TV, but the major sports leagues have already put some games on streaming services. I get it, Gray's just trying to grab any fruit off the tree, and I don't blame them for it. But this is not a hurrah for broadcast TV. It's a metaphorical fleeting jab from a boxer who's two or three more blows away from a knockout.1 point

Regarding the Netflix NFL Christmas Day games...as I mentioned a couple months ago, KCTV is simulcasting the Steelers-Chiefs game in the Kansas City area, and it's confirmed that KDKA will air the game in Pittsburgh. As for Ravens-Texans, KHOU will air the game in Houston, and WJZ will carry it in Baltimore. All four CBS stations in those respective cities will air these games, as confirmed per TitanTV listings; during the time when these games, CBS nationally is pretty much sticking with regularly-scheduled programming, both network and syndicated.1 point
-
A good point to note from the story on their website... rightfully so this move. Over the next few days, you may notice national news programs or syndicated programming in place of local news while ABC13 grieves our loss.1 point

Netflix named its announcing teams for their Christmas Day games... Noah Eagle and Nate Burleson will team up once again, this time with J.J. Watt joining them, for Steelers vs. Chiefs in Kansas City. Kickoff time is scheduled for 1pm ET. Noah's dad Ian will call Ravens vs. Texans from Houston, with Greg Olsen as his partner. Game time from the Space City is at 4:30pm ET. Production for both telecasts will be handled by CBS Sports. Rich Eisen and some yet-to-be-determine studio analysts on loan from NFL Network will handle the studio show coverage. Because these are streaming-based broadcasts, Steelers-Chiefs and Ravens-Texans will also be seen on over-the-air TV in each team's home DMA. KCTV in Kansas City confirmed that they're airing the Steelers-Chiefs game in its region, and more than likely because it's a CBS O&O, KDKA in Pittsburgh should air the game in its home market. Assume the same in Baltimore with WJZ airing Ravens-Texans, and in Houston on KHOU.1 point

Looks like the "light mode" version of the score bug is being used so that the black color of the Raiders doesn't blend in with the normal color of the graphic.1 point

ESPN had some minor graphics changes (different design for the timeout indicator, and an on-field down and distance arrow for the first time in quite a while) In addition, a notable change has happened in some international markets; the NFL seems to be providing unbranded "clean" feeds of more games (particularly nationally-televised games) that use generic graphics (the NFL Network ones but a little off-looking) but still contain most of the video and commentary from the U.S. English broadcast (but with things such as sponsor plugs edited out). Typically this was only done for the Super Bowl in the past (which had its own bespoke world production and different commentators to the main U.S. broadcast). How these are being used by Sky in the UK has been facing some criticism due to the quality of the resulting broadcast (especially given how Comcast owns Sky).1 point

I wonder how this sky dance deal eventually affects CBS NEWS & CBS News & Stations? That will be interesting to watch.1 point

Perhaps one thing I could agree with Mr. Muck is that all of the Paramount cable networks are all-rerun farms, outside of what you've mentioned. As an example, because I watch plenty of classic reruns on days I work from home (if I'm not watching news or sports), Logo is all-day/evening marathons of either Bewitched, The Facts of Life, The Nanny, Mama's Family, Will & Grace, Three's Company, or Married...with Children; the few original programs they had in the past that are still running have since moved to either MTV or VH1 (particularly RuPaul's Drag Race). BET Her is more or less another all-rerun channel, with repurposed content from linear BET or BET+, along with the annual simulcasts of their award shows. BET's Jams, Hip-Hop, and Soul channels also play all-day music videos. I don't watch any of the Nickelodeon channels or TV Land, and haven't in years. Comedy Central, of course, still has some original content, but most of their broadcast days are all-day reruns of the same dozen or so shows, or the same couple dozen movies they currently have rights to. Honestly, with the success of Pluto TV, they've made the Paramount cable networks rather useless, but they're still sticking around just to get retransmission dollars from the various TV providers around. Eventually, and who knows when, several of these networks will shutter and what original content they'll still offer can move to either Pluto or Paramount+ (or whatever becomes of that platform).1 point
-
They're unsalable because, with a few exceptions, they mostly show reruns, terrible reality shows, or reruns of terrible reality shows. Also, I would think most teenagers don't watch linear TV these days... Don't forget about the digital multiplex channels such as MTV2, MTV Live, MTV Classic, etc. Surprisingly, MTV Classic actually shows music videos...but I bet more people watch those on YouTube.1 point
