One has nothing to do with the other. No viewer cares a whit that they prerecord shows. They don’t get remotely hung up on the name of a show. What does matter is it’s a stable, reliable performer that brings in the cash via the syndication arm of the Disney octopus. The idea you’d deprioritize something that has worked well on your owned stations over a production schedule change is illogical. Not going to happen in the near future. Not going to happen then either. The situation is not comparable to NBC and the path forward isn’t replicating that in the near term.4 points

I may be the only soul who liked the format of What You Need to Know, sort of a throwback to the old days of GMA/Today, with a somewhat less sensational and fluffy approach than is currently employed on the mothership. So be it; budgets and numbers are what they are and if the decision is to change, they have the data that gives them the reason to change it. More power to ‘em if they are pivoting to a new approach. Or an old approach as the case may be.2 points

Call me a skeptic, but unless Bob Iger's ego is as fragile as Trump's, I don't buy "we wanted to show off the 10th floor of our new corporate building" that none of their viewers care about. Sounds like a post-hoc justification for unforeseen circumstances.1 point

They used to air a third hour of GMA online...just do that on ABC News Live at 9am so viewers can choose instead of this goofy GMA3+4 silliness and make the noon hour across the country a floating news hour or just give it to the affiliates. There's barely enough GMA segments to justify a 20 minute brand extension, much less an hour, and it's pre-empted half the time anyways when something happens in Washington.1 point

As long as they can slap a sponsor's logo on it... pretty sure they don't care what it's called. Any outreach event Nexstar puts out has a "insert logo here" mentality to sell to the first willing client. Whether it's band-wagoning a major sporting event with a special program or running their "Remarkable Women" promotion, everything has a dollar sign attached to it.1 point

GMA Cubed has gone though five rebrandings in it's seven year run. It's been an unstable program from the jump. Im surprised ABC didn't outright give up and cancel it. Strahan, Sarah and Keke was my favorite incarnation of the program, but it never took off.1 point

That article indicates it is a Disney PR approach to showing off their new NYC digs. Disney is the king of self promotion.1 point

Nexstar has entered the must-run game. Why? So they can try and own more stations. https://thedesk.net/2025/04/nexstar-fcc-must-runs-ownership-caps-deregulation/ No thanks. They have enough stations as it is. And their tactics of delaying web streams and shaking down viewers for a dwindling pool of retransmission cash is bad enough.1 point

To clarify, I didn't say outright this setup would be full-time, but thanks for bringing this to my attention.1 point

What was the point in moving before the studio was ready? The last few weeks of “Live” production has been odd.1 point

The Pirates quietly dropped the standard-issue-but-grey NESN scoreboard for an updated version during their home opener It's serviceable and definitely an improvement (though the white backgrounds on the batter/hitter is a bit iffy. Would probably make them color coded for the teams)1 point

Apparently this spot is for this week only - full studio in a week. https://people.com/find-out-where-kelly-ripa-and-mark-consuelos-will-film-live-before-they-premiere-new-set-117087301 point

It is Monday, April 7, 2025. And yes, it's time. Live with Kelly & Mark officially debuted (from the Great Room on 10th floor) at its new home of 7H². Reminds me a lot of the studio of the first season of Anderson Cooper's talk show. (Coincidentally and ironically, he was Live's final guest at the old UWS studio.)1 point

KTVI and KDVR would be great candidates for this package... Nexstar has some big FOX stations in larger markets that would make them stand out1 point

Same. In fact, I'm gonna miss the studio itself too as it's been in use throughout it's entire local run and national run up until this point; and even though I went in only three times, it still is so legendary that I get goosebumps every time I enter. And despite its size compared to the last , it is my set of them all.1 point

I'm really going to miss that opening zoom-out that just shows how absurdly tiny that studio is for a network-quality live show, even after the studio-sharing with EWN ended. It's always night and day to see their yearly Dolby show or other on-location weeks such as the recent Palm Springs week where they can spread out. I'm hoping at least that the GMA set is less clashy with all that metal and those goofy frosted panels and so much blue. I'm hopeful everything with the lighting and display on the new set is temporary and a new network-wide scheme is introduced with GMA's move, which I can still see happen. The big problem with ABC News is that set is heavily-used so they may have to keep it darker to hide marks and not expose too much to an average viewer about its overuse.1 point

I guess Im in the minority. I hate everything about ABC News. Its like they are broadcasting from a darkened cave. I hate the lighting, when there is some its harsh and the talent is shadowy and the graphics are dark so it feels sinister. The sound is always echo-ey and the use of the metal on the set, such as around the screens and desk, always has hotspots. Everything is badly designed. I feel since they were moving to a new space they could have experimented. They didnt even get new graphics but recreated their old ones. But since audiences for network news is drying up...this exemplifies they are truly scare of losing more of their audience. I was hoping we would see something different. But to to rebuild the same thing. Yawn. I was suprised ABC News Live got new graphics. I like the channel, but sometimes I find the streaming channels dont always carry live events. NBC News Now is a big culprit. ABC is OK. CBS News is a bit hit or miss. I have to say Im not impressed with any of the big 3 network news sets. NBC gave up and retreated to the Today set and CBS is just screens and ABC went deeper into their news cave.1 point

I'm currently in the still-current-but-soon-to-be-old studio of Live with Kelly & Mark, and it was mentioned during today's interviews with their guests (featured here is Nathan Fillion) that this is one of the very last episodes in this studio and on W 67th Street in UWS before the move to 7 Hudson Square. They didn't say exactly when it will happen, but it is more than likely after this month.1 point

With KTVT, WJZ, WBBM, and now KCNC all switching to First Alert Weather, I have cause to believe that this is a groupwide mandate (with the exceptions of Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, and Miami).1 point

I know I am super late, but I just saw this! I wonder if they are paying, although I have noticed, it always says "First Alert" and then Weather Center, or Forecast, etc. I wonder if they are using a loophole by not ever saying "First Alert Weather". Just very interesting, never knew it was trademarked!1 point

I have a question even though this has to do with some CBS O&O’s getting the branding but why did 2 Hearst stations (WESH and WPBF) switch from First Alert to First Warning?1 point
-
I know Raycom used it for almost all their stations, and then once sold to Gray, they adopted it more for the then-Gray legacy stations as well. For some reason, CBS O&O's have a Gray-like feel to them.1 point

Same way here in Detroit, WXYZ (Scripps-owned ABC affiliate) has used the "First Alert" brand for its weather (and later) traffic segments since 2011. WWJ continues to use the "First Forecast" branding for its weather segments since 2008 when the station was branded as simply "WWJ-TV".1 point

If there's one thing I hate and really wish would die its the over-saturated generic use of "First Alert Weather." Come up with something more original.1 point

Just for understanding purposes, why has the Minn/St. Paul market avoided using these kind of brandings?1 point

I have the same feeling about KDKA. I wouldn't be surprised if they do adopt this brand honestly, but I'm not sure how it would look or sound. They've been branded as either KDKA Weather or KDKA Local Weather since at least 05 or 06, and while the branding is simple, I've always felt like they needed a stronger branding for weather. And I don't know if First Alert Weather is the right brand for KD. I thought the same thing about the Pittsburgh stations, but WTAE took the bait sometime last year. I'm not sure when exactly.1 point

I have a hard time seeing WCCO adopting this. They've been "WCCO Weather" since 2005-ish. and overall, the Minneapolis-St. Paul market has avoided these kind of brandings. KSTP is "Minnesota's Weather Authority" but everyone else is *station name* weather. No one even takes the WeatherRate bait.1 point
