I think it's a good idea. Local TV news needs all the help it can get, and this is a very innovative way of doing it. This'll help viewers have a more personal connection with WDIV. Also, the article mentions that WDIV is moving production of their daily lifestyle show there.3 points

WDIV is opening a coffee shop in the western Detroit suburb of Plymouth with the oh so clever name “Fourgrounds”. https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2025/06/24/local-4-to-open-coffee-shop-community-space-in-downtown-plymouth/2 points

First of all, this is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Secondly, are things so profitable with Sean McLaughlin at Graham that they can afford to do this?2 points

In case you were all wondering why the fast track to get CBS out of 1515, we know now; Paramount is trying to get out of the lease so Caesars can put a casino in the building.1 point

Assuming they receive a complaint at all, they can “investigate” it until no one cares, which in today’s world is about 7.1 seconds. They don’t need to do anything unless they see an opening to needle someone they deem antagonistic to the dear leader and feel like they can make said antagonist a scapegoat. Under no circumstances would they criticize the person who uttered the words in this scenario. But were it to be uttered by anyone on the enemies list, rest assured they will spring into action at the first complaint received. If they even wait that long.1 point

In his blog, Frank Macek, a Senior Broadcast Director at Tegna's WKYC, questions the relevance of local network affiliations. Despite his expected propping of his station, interesting points were made. https://wkycdirectorscut.blogspot.com/2025/06/franks-take-do-local-tv-stations-still.html?m=11 point

Jeff Hogan teaming up with Yolanda Harris makes good business sense, because Jeff had been on 10TV since the late 90s. Good move to 10TV.1 point

This is a reminder that the newest Independent television station (the first of three, coming within a two-month span) begins next Tuesday. Yes, WFTS' chief now has his own program, moving from streaming to weeknights at 7:30 p.m. Other weekday highlights in this TL;DR version include (according to TampaBay66.com; forgive me for this list, but its to drive a point to showcase a little mixture of everything for WXPX starting next week)... A live simulcast of WFTS' 4:30-6:00am, 7:00-8:00am (already done by streaming), 9:00-10:00am, hour-long noon, and half-hour 7:00pm newscasts. A delayed rebroadcast of WFTS' half-hour weeknight 6:00 and 11:00pm newscasts by 30 minutes (6:30 and 11:30pm, respectively). Some Scripps News programs, mainly in the morning (The National Report at 6:00am and the Morning Rush at 8:00 and 10:00am) but also in the afternoon (Scripps News On The Scene at 4:00 and Happening NOW in America at 5:00pm). Tampa Bay's Morning Blend gets a double dose of airing, just like WFTS (11:00am and 12 Midnight on WXPX as opposed to 10:00am and 1:07am on WFTS). The Jason Show from KMSP-TV Minneapolis will make its Tampa Bay debut at 1:00pm. The only syndicated programs that I see, outside of primetime, are Inside Edition (6:00pm), ES.TV (11:00pm), and Sports Wrap with Jason Page (1:00am). Oh, and don't forget, Tampa Bay Lightning games in the fall, too. That's why WXPX will become what it is: The Spot - Tampa Bay 66.1 point

KWGN's slogan should have been "2 the Deuce. You can't polish a turd." Back to WFNA.... It was one of the few non-Tribune stations at the time to de-brand their CW affiliation with their newly minted (at the time) call letters. On paper, they were W F(lorida) aNd A(labama). The logo was a big "W" with the "FNA" inside. The slogan.... FNA baby! (Like the term f-in A) This was done under LIN when it was co-managed with WALA. Thankfully, They pulled the plug in 2012 and it reverted to CW branding as CW55. At some point either late in Media General's tenure of the station or early Nexstar, they went back to "Gulf Coast CW" , their original brand pre "WFNA". It definitely serves the market better as a WKRG sister station as opposed to a WALA one, because it gives WKRG a duopoly partner. Media General "kept" WFNA in the LIN merger and had to "divest" WALA to Meredith, even though the opposite happened operationally by WFNA being shifted from WALA to WKRG.1 point

I guess I'm an outlier, but I like this set a lot. It is cavernous, but I think there are a lot of retro nods. More set pieces might be a good thing, though. About the floor: is it "real"? It looks like it wants to be wood, but is way too glossy for that. Is it a massive screen?1 point

Went to KMGH. Was ousted when Scripps bought them and subsequently kicked GM Byron Grandy to the curb. Grandy served out a stint at a few Nexstar stations before returning to GM KDVR|KWGN and brought Becker back with him. Becker is doing the job he was never made for - Micromanaging, blindly listening to SmithGeiger, and spending stupid amounts of money for a new set that didn't need to be replaced. Becker doesn't know how to move the ratings dial at all.1 point

Just saw this...Agreed, but I will say, despite being unstable in the mornings and evenings, CBS News has the best quality reporting of the big three. Yes about primetime. CBS barely take risks, it's been police procedurals, competition shows and sitcoms for years now. But I don't blame them for sticking to what works because for years they were the number one network off of that formula for years. Agreed, because CBS News and programming tends to swing center left.1 point

Nexstar's WETM has made history by having the first all female, all black weather team -- Don't know what the demographic is for the Elmira, NY area, but you'd think this would've happened in a larger market.. Nonetheless, a great feat indeed!1 point

ABC had the most extensive coverage of the Iran bombing Saturday night, with Whit Johnson anchoring a full hour ahead of NBC and CBS who joined in later to cover Trump's speech from the White House. Then David Muir was the only lead anchor called in to take over coverage at 10pm. Then he anchored World News Tonight with a special Sunday night appearance, and Tom Llamas made it back to the anchor chair on NBC for a special Sunday appearance also. Nothing special on CBS, as Jerika Duncan anchored the Sunday newscast as normal. My preferences remain with ABC.1 point

I understand there might be an “increased demand” for more local news… but this definitely isn’t what anyone was asking for.1 point

Surprising decision I wonder if other newscasts will follow that format also. They taking a page from Telemundo.1 point

UPDATE It's always been a co-pairing duo on their network newscast. But once Jorge Ramos leaves, for the first time ever, Noticiero Univision is going SOLO. It'll just be Ilia Calderón moving forward. https://bit.ly/3Us3Pjo1 point

That what I’m saying is most likely just how Maria Elena went to ABC he’ll do the same if he joins NBCUniversal. He is to old for a big anchor job.1 point

Maybe he'll become contributor or special correspondent for Telemundo, or even an english news organization if he wanted to. Harry Smith vibes but focused on the hispanic community.1 point

https://forums.tvnewstalk.net/topic/17598-abc-news-tv3/ It appears that GMA Weekend will debut from the new space tomorrow morning. And with the rollout of normal usage on the horizon, this is probably as good a time as any (better late than never, I guess) to move the new studio discussion to its own thread.1 point

ABC used the new set for this week’s primary coverage but not for any special reports or WNT. Any word on when this will go into full commission?1 point

I agree. With all the cuts in television, this is what they decide to spend their money on? I don’t see this lasting a year. It won’t attract viewers, if that’s what they’re hoping for.0 points

Broadcast networks are going to likely show their restraint during the daytime. If it's live, then the president should know better and no station should be penalized for a fleeting remark of his. Cable news is free to broadcast it as they please since they're not subject to FCC guidelines. They just show restraint with the "7 deadly words" but can air them. Even some of the movie networks like IFC are starting to air uncut movies with the profanity intact.0 points

Not here to debate the President’s use of the F-bomb, but don’t we have audio delays on live coverage for this very reason? Linked CSPAN, but scrolling TikTok, other news outlets aired the word uncensored as well. how does the FCC handle a violation by the guy who appoints them? v15044gf0000d1d8pcvog65muqnu3v3g.mp4 v24044gl0000d1d8dkfog65vdh5rj7mg.mp40 points

It’s why ABC will always remain number #1 even with all the changes that have happened with the move to there new building and everything, they’ve remained consistent.0 points

Big Brother at least is understandable on paper since it's cheap summer filler in timeslots that would otherwise be used on reruns or other cheap filler, the show's format necessitates multiple episodes per week, and unlike what they've done with MasterChef in Australia where they'll put it on in consecutive days, BBUS' episodes are spread out throughout the week. Of course, the show's been allowed to become so stale, predictable and childish over the years that they're now grasping at straws for content to fill three episodes with most weeks. Just another symptom of CBS' decline.0 points

Jorge Ramos is leaving Univision after not coming to an agreement on a new contract as the current one ends at the end of the year. Sounds like he'll be still doing news en Espanol post-Univision. If it weren't for them switching anchors recently from Jose Diaz-Balart to Julio Vaqueiro with the former focusing more on MSNBC, could've seen Jorge jump over to Telemundo & he still might. https://deadline.com/2024/09/jorge-ramos-exit-univision-1236082636/0 points

Update Just like all other big-name journalists recently (i.e. Jim Acosta, Joy Reid, Don Lemon, etc.), Jorge Ramos is going independent as well. He recently launched a Substack and has launched a new program, Asi Veo Las Cosas (This Is How I See Things). This is the first episode with Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.):0 points

Somebody get the tape recorders to record Univision later tonight (if you have the network; as I post this East Coast time at 12:10am). Its Jorge Ramos' last day. https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2024/12/11/jorge-ramos-last-day-noticiero-univision/76934460007/0 points

I think he left because he was upset at the right-wing stance Univision had taken since that controversial Trump interview a few months ago. Of course it was suspicious because normally every presidential candidate get interviewed by him, it almost required and it wasn’t done by him instead It was Enrique Acevedo it marked a de facto return for him to Univision briefly. Also some Televisa/Univision executives are friends with the former president and they didn’t want Jorge to do the interview because they knew he be tough on Trump. But I think that’s why he is leaving he didn’t want to be apart of that, I do see him walking across the highway to Telemundo. But I don’t think he’ll get the 6:30 newscast over at the T network he might get a digital show or a contributor role, but remember he is 66 so I think Julio Vaquiero will stay in his role because he much younger he can be in the chair for a long time, Ramos could’ve had the Univision lead anchor chair till he died because there was no higher role and his legacy was intact and until December he’s a mainstay so there isn’t a another big job available for him other than contributing role and a digital show should he cross over. . Shot his long time co-anchor Maria is a contributor in English he could do that also for NBCuniversal should he cross over appear on NBC News programs (she of course is on ABC), but the same was for her she also up there in age too she can’t really get an big anchor job either. So I think he’ll have limited opportunity. That why he said in his announcement “he’ll announce other professional opportunities, after he leaves”. As for Univision they blew it for Leon Krause who left after that Trump interview he was most likely going to replace him should Jorge in an event he retired but obviously that won’t happen because he left before Jorge did. I honestly can’t see a good successor for him Univision could flip to solo format like Telemundo does at 6:30 snd the other networks abd give Ilia managing editor role because she’s the new lead anchor and it’s historic also she the first black lead anchor of a Spanish network.0 points
