The $150 million for a TRO bond Nexstar asked for was denied. Judge ordered a $10,000 (not a typo) nominal bond to be posted, saying any harm from this litigation is self inflicted since the decision to rush the closing was Nexstar’s. though he also asked for evidence showing Nexstar had to do it quickly2 points

It looks like Gray's WOIO/WUAB/WTCL/WOHZ is finally getting its wish. Come the end of next year, the quad group of stations will be leaving Reserve Square in Downtown Cleveland for suburban Independence at the Independence Technology Center. https://neo-trans.blog/2026/04/17/woio-wuab-wtcl-tv-seek-independence/?fbclid=IwdGRjcARPnDhjbGNrBE-brmV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDDM1MDY4NTUzMTcyOAABHr6nB7pGFhzpu-k1XgmpqxdZNpU_yq0XyKceKRwVOhwmjkLciuQdd319xpE7_aem_3kK5hEhiy9drtCWEwQ0VdA2 points

Australia After a wonderful 24-year run at the Nine Network, which includes TCN Sydney, Georgie Gardner has left the building for the last time.1 point

Legacy means nothing in the penny pinching era, especially at Nexstar. God forbid Kaity and Mr G might be on the chopping block next. Speculation but WNBC's Chuck Scarbourough's 50 anniversary came around in March 2024 and I recall Andrew Siff clarifying that is was a celebration not a retirement, but then Chuck retires just a few months later in December? I'm not sure that was fully his choice. Dana Tyler and Maurice Dubois were both axed from CBS/WCBS. Anyone is expendable these days.1 point
-
They don't. Except for Kaity Tong at WPIX, Eric Spillman at KTLA, a handful at WGN and others, nobody is safe, and even then those folks still may not be safe from Nexstar's upcoming cuts.1 point
-
Incorrect. John worked at WNBC prior to joining WPIX the first time. Craig worked at WNYW prior to joining WPIX. Regardless, what makes you think Nexstar cares about legacy anchors? Take a look at what’s happening at their stations across the nation.1 point
-
Pretty sure John and Craig were both there for at least 20 years to consider them legacy status. That legacy status didn’t help them keep their job.1 point
-
Kaity has legacy status, and she on the weekend she ain’t going anywhere unless she retires.1 point
-
Kendis was laid off. My point is if you’re going to pay the big bucks to bring in network talent, then have them work more than one show. Surprised Kaity hasn’t been given the pink slip the way they’ve been giving them out.1 point

Rincon has wanted to exit since at least last year old news if you read this forum1 point

Sure.. anyone (regardless of age) can decide to leave the business at anytime (and for any reason) and nothing is truly guaranteed. But again, there doesn't appear to be any indication that Chuck, Lou, or any of the older folk at WMAQ are going to pack it in in the next 3 years (or so). Things can change for sure... Regardless; as a viewer, I'm happy they're still around and I am sure NBC 5 leadership is too (for however long that may be).1 point
-
WPIX used to be a great station sometimes I’d watch them over FOX. I think when those changes happened in 2010 with that news director it sent everything crashing down for that station, after they rid Kaity and Jim they never really recovered from those changes. This era they currently had was some stability for the first time since.1 point

I don't blame him. He thought he hit the jackpot when The Weather Channel (which was owned by a consortium of Blackrock and NBC at the time) offered him the chance to do his own morning show. Not only did the show not work out but the channel went to shit too under Allen ownership. I would try to get back together with GMA if I were Sam Champion too.1 point
-
They'd be more likely to cut that last quadrant of channels that they don't own, and if QVC and HSN do indeed go the way of ShopHQ this summer their hand will be forced anyways.1 point

That fact she’ll be doing work for WABC is a sign that ABC is trying to make this hire as affordable as possible kinda like the Perry Russom gig with WABC. So they’ll give her some local time. ABC hiring on the cheap here.1 point

God I'm old. I remember working with Anthony at a Shaw's grocery store in northern CT 25 years ago. The Nexstar situation sucks but I'm sure he and Kala will land on their feet.1 point

At least Kara Kenney gets to remain on WRTV's airwaves, joining CCB and WISH-TV. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1353184526634940&id=1000583021514271 point

Here is Mary Nam's final sign off from KOMO earlier this week after 23 years there. One of the last of the old guards from their Fisher Communications days has left the building. I'll post Michelle Meredith's final sign off later today from WESH 2 as well if it comes around.1 point

I was surprised to see JKO in Yakima. Didn’t seem his style. He was in Eureka, CA before where he anchored every weekday newscast, morning and night. It is a beautiful place. He seems to like the small markets.1 point

KOKI has a much superior facility. While the building itself is not new (built as a department store in the early 60s), it’s a much bigger and more modern facility than KTUL’s in Lookout mountain. KOKI has space to build out multiple studios. It even has several thousand square feet of a now-unused event center operated in the building under clear channel. The building also houses a cluster of radio stations now KOKI is partners with. KOKI is also a much higher rated station. Sinclair has run KTUL so far into the ground, many of its newscast see viewers in the hundreds, rather than thousands. KOKI is a solid #2 and on occasion still beats KOTV, though not like it used to under old Cox.1 point

That is basically the whole point of the deal, I'd imagine. WISH can now get network prices on advertising on news they were already producing. It's the reverse of a network affiliate buying a My/CW/Indy station.1 point

KWCH's Always On StormTeam 12. A very good underrated channel that's been around for decades. Probably better for 24/7 local weather coverage than TWC's partial coverage.1 point

Shared this in a separate thread - but the lawsuit is - quite the read. https://jumpshare.com/share/PKW9HMFxwTst6zuRgw9g Attorneys for the defendant haven't filed their response yet. But, when filed it will show up at https://matrix.leeclerk.org case number to search is 26-CA-001858 (Full disclosure: I was an employee of Fort Myers Broadcasting more than a decade ago, I did not work with and have never met or communicated in any way with the current GM, News Director, or the defendant in this lawsuit.)1 point

They only offered employment though, which is a big difference, and outside a few who probably had no seniority/choice in the manner, most of them probably laughed at the terms on sight. Also putting the logos like that in the footer as '8-6' is probably one of the most ironic touches I've ever seen in a press release announcing how they fired people and how they can maybe come back (good luck with that).1 point

Painful. The ticker telling people “You are watching WISH-TV Indianapolis” is laughable. If you’re gonna fire everyone, just simulcast.1 point

Dujuan McCoy is a special kind of awful. I know WRTV has been the red-headed stepchild of Indianapolis for a long time, but for it to go like this is brutal. The worst thing about it, this is what local owners are doing to TV stations. The same can be said in Fort Myers with the McBride Family. Now there are still good owners out there like the people who own WFMJ and Capital Broadcasting in Raleigh, but the entire industry is still doninated by companies like Nexstar who are spreading awful in an unprecedented way.1 point

My personal guess is that there was direct outreach between the parties involved in these sales and these stations were never on the open market. Whether Scripps approached purchasing companies first or vice versa is something we’ll likely never know. That’s strictly speculation, but based on the two operations and the single market owners Scripps sold to. In both cases, those operations only paths to better operating costs were buy a competitor or be sold to one. And if you look at Scripps debt load and stock price … cash is a good thing to get. (Even if they announced the Inyo and Lexington purchases which eats up a solid amount of the money made from these sales. But those are both purchases where the long term operating costs will be substantially lower than the properties they sold.)1 point
-
What I want to know is why Scripps chose to sell to Circle City. Did no one else (Gray, Hearst, Sinclair, etc.) show any interest? Did any of them even know Scripps was looking to sell this one station?1 point

There was a separate thread posted for WRTV adopting the WISH graphics. That is, frankly, such a secondary part of this story, especially since the implementation has been so bad. Everything about the change can be discussed here.1 point

I'm not even from the DMA, but man, that is brutal! This is a sad sign of the times in the traditional broadcast TV world. I feel so sorry for everyone who was let go on such short notice...1 point

I'll still take that over the TV shows The Weather Channel has in place of actual weather content. I prefer The Weather Channel when it is actually doing weather. But if AccuWeather offers a loop of weather graphics versus The Weather Channel showing "Highway Through Hell", I'll choose AccuWeather without thinking twice.1 point

Circle City Broadcasting now owns RTV6 in Indy. And early word is, just about everyone at RTV6 minus a few people, won’t be around for the late news this evening.0 points

The whole situation is just so sad. What a dramatic change in talent from 1-2 years ago; not to mention all the behind the scenes cuts we aren't seeing. So now Shriely Chan will have to anchor alone 4,5,6,6:30 and 10pm.0 points

New round of layoffs... According to our Nexstar source, there were two additional on-air talent let go, this week, in addition to DiLorenzo. Kendis Gibson, anchor, the 3rd of the 4 evening anchors to get the boot Kala Rama, anchor/reporter, and DiLorenzo's wife0 points

She's a good get and will be helpful with the schedule at WABC-TV, especially with Sam barely there. I mention this in the GMA thread, but I can't stand Sam Champion. He gets treated like royalty at ABC/GMA and I don't get it. He really doesn't contributing anything but being an nuisance and over the top laughter.0 points

In Yakima...Fox 41 is now Fox 29.3 (well, I believe it's still called "Fox 41"). KCYU dropped Fox this morning after over 35 years. First as K53CY, then K68EB, then KCYU. Channel 41 is now Roar. Meanwhile, Scott Stovall was on the newscast last night at 5 and 6. I hope the absence of John Kennedy O'Connor is temporary...but I have been predicting the demise of the KIMA television studios for years now. So who knows?0 points
