TVNewsLover 861 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Yesterday, the 4pm, 5pm were solo anchored by Kendis, and the 6pm and 10pm by Shirley. 1

This is the very first time a male personality was doing traffic and over a decade. At least from my viewing habits, male traffic anchors in general are indeed rare. 5 hours ago, RealNews18 said: Somehow Mr.G has survived any and all rounds of cuts and changes. I hope they leave him and Kaity Tong alone. What a shame. John Muller left and returned home only to be laid off. As someone else said, I would love to see him or Craig land at FOX 5. I was so/so about Kori but you never want to see someone lose their job this way. From my vantage point WABC and WNBC appear to be the most stable products in the market right now. 1
RealNews18 271 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Who usually does the weather at 4:00? Tonight it was Mr.G, I thought it was typically Chris.. I don’t usually watch so I could be wrong.. but I hope Chris is still there.

It all has to do with ownership (direct or indirect). Nexstar is doing this at many statins. They promise investment in news but this shows that is window dressing as to what actually happens. CBS issues under Skydance Paramount are well documented. Not to say WNBC and WABC are immune from budget cuts, but it's rare to see it have such a big impact as we see at WPIX and other Nexstar stations. 2

I see the potential of John Muller joining WNBC. As weekend anchor with Rana Novini. I think they would have good chemistry on the weekends
RealNews18 271 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Pat Calvin (formerly of News12 LI) and recently in other markets has announced he’s joining WPIX. Not sure what time or shows he’ll be working but pictures on Instagram show him at night working with I believe Shirley Chan. 1

RealNews18 271 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Mike Masco announced he’s is taking over the 7-9am weather slot.

Ever since the mass firings, G hasn't been doing weather at 10pm, and I assumed he was on a long vacation. Tonight, he was there in-studio for the "G thing" segment, but immediately after they tossed to Chris Cimino who's been doing the 10pm last few weeks. Not sure what G's new hours are, but he did the 4pm yesterday (so maybe he just swapped with Chris for earlier shows). Edited March 20 by NYNewsCoverage
IceManNYR 249 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Former PIX11 Meteorologist Linda Church was on the ABC game show The Greatest Average American. Watch The Greatest Average American Season 1 Episode 4 Armchair Legend! 1
MediaZone4K 2662 Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Speaking of Linda Church, she and Craig Treadway both had strong reactions to Anthony DiLorenzo announcing his apparent layoff.
oldnewsperson 5 Posted April 7 Posted April 7 God I'm old. I remember working with Anthony at a Shaw's grocery store in northern CT 25 years ago. The Nexstar situation sucks but I'm sure he and Kala will land on their feet. 3
NowBergen 924 Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Warning for all Nexstar news staff: This will happen to you. Nester's claims of beefing up and expanding local news when they are laying off and started consolidating newsrooms is why they should lose the court challenge to their merger with Tegna, and the use of sidecars to get around Congressional set ownership caps be undone. Clearly Nexstar isn't committed to improved ratings and product in New York.
24994J 5888 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 New round of layoffs... According to our Nexstar source, there were two additional on-air talent let go, this week, in addition to DiLorenzo. Kendis Gibson, anchor, the 3rd of the 4 evening anchors to get the boot Kala Rama, anchor/reporter, and DiLorenzo's wife 4
NYNewsCoverage 337 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 The whole situation is just so sad. What a dramatic change in talent from 1-2 years ago; not to mention all the behind the scenes cuts we aren't seeing. So now Shriely Chan will have to anchor alone 4,5,6,6:30 and 10pm. 2

GraphicsMan 345 Posted April 13 Posted April 13 WPIX used to be a great station sometimes I’d watch them over FOX. I think when those changes happened in 2010 with that news director it sent everything crashing down for that station, after they rid Kaity and Jim they never really recovered from those changes. This era they currently had was some stability for the first time since. 22 hours ago, NYNewsCoverage said: The whole situation is just so sad. TVNewsLover 861 Posted April 13 Posted April 13 I’m surprised Ben and Marisol haven’t been given the pink slip yet. They only host the 10am hour. Alternatively, why not add more airtime for them, giving them more shows. 1

The decision to blow up Jim and Kaity for Jodi Applegate broadcasting from the cheap newsroom was highly questionable. They really started getting better with the post-Sukanya Morning show team. I never really cared about their afternoon newscasts, but its sucks to see the station going backwards.

Surprised Kaity hasn’t been given the pink slip the way they’ve been giving them out. 4
