It is. A guess, thinking it through, they wanted that to launch with the full treatment, for lack of a better word. Put the new stuff in place with the changing of the opens? 
 

It’s not the cheapest route, but maybe that’s just how things aligned. Won’t make much of a difference to most viewers, so no big deal either way.

She is (or was as of Sunday) still in the opening spiel, and supposedly still is on the website. Since they have an opening without talent, and they usually move quickly to put that in place when someone is officially gone, it’s unusual, but entirely possible there’s private reasons she’s not been on.

It looks to be that she's taken a leave of absence.

Just saw that same article. And for wheat it’s worth, she was still named in the closing spiel of today’s 5 pm news.

Interesting the post says that they are looking for someone who likes to “geek out over weather”. Seems like they are aiming for someone going and hip. Do they need to improve ratings in the younger demographic?

A good question. Doesn’t seem likely to be cost effective to return to having two in the morning. At the same time, you don’t need one to just do noon. You have two covering all the evening shows.

6ABC like WABC & WLS, etc definitely can have the pick of the litter when it comes to On Air talent so most are above average quality.

Correct, as per this Tribune article written in 2020 discussing his promotion to an Atlanta-based correspondent from MMR. Was also at WRNN during the FiOS days and then at WRDE before that.

Horribly tragic. They’ve confirmed both individuals aboard were killed, which seemed inevitable from what little was shown of the crash site.

The helicopter went down at 2002 and they didn’t receive it was missing until 2250. I don’t know who dropped the ball, surely someone would have tracked it or know how long they’d be out.

Yeah thats horrible. Hope they can identify the cause quickly so that way if there is an inherent risk with these choppers they can resolve it on all of the helicopters that are up in the air right now. It doesn't bring the lives lost sadly. Very tough situation and such horrible timing being the holiday season.

Damn.... That brought back memories of what happened last year when WBTV's helicopter crashed.... My thoughts are with everyone at 6abc and the family members of the 2 crew members.

I don’t know about the other newscasts, but Chopper 6 was removed from the new intro of the 6PM newscast. (First day of winter.)

The winter openings were also used at 10 am and noon. Don’t know about the morning hours or 4/5 pm. Normally, they don’t roll out the new season openings until after the official arrival time, which would  have been the 11 pm today.
 

Absolutely understandable if this was the reason (not that they need a reason), as it was a bit sad to see the prominent shots of the copter in some of the openings used yesterday.
