Something Nexstar would probably consider doing as a workaround to having actual duopolies in some markets. 2 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/85/#findComment-302935 Share on other sites
tyrannical bastard 3931
It looks like Sinclair is turning the keys over in Albany, Georgia with WFXL. According to FCC filings, they have established a JSA with Marquee Broadcasting (owners of WSWG and WSST) and their "main studio/control point" is now at the same address as WSWG's studios in Albany. This was one of the stations decimated in the 2023 layoffs. It was already being run largely out of WGXA in Macon which itself was decimated as well. These cuts left it without any local newscasts of any kind, aside from The National Desk. Sinciair looks like they will still own the station, Marquee will likely be doing the legwork with it. I have been predicting this since WSWG got sold to Marquee. And this won't be the last one either. 2 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/85/#findComment-303337 Share on other sites
Megatron81 256
Seems to me that The National Desk doesn't have many ads seems to be a lot of promos at least the weekend edition of TND as I don't watch the weekday or weeknight of the show largely in the background for the last 10 to 15 minutes of the show as I like the crime show they air on ARC-WMI on Saturday Night at 11:30PM. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/85/#findComment-303918 Share on other sites
mre29 1513
I have a friend in Amarillo who mentioned that the Sinclair station there (KVII) has "reportedly ditched all local news people other than the weather team". That's the ARC thing, right? 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/85/#findComment-303958 Share on other sites

MD TV 253
On April 28th, TBD will be rebranded as Roar: https://sbgi.net/tbd-tv-network-to-rebrand-as-roar/ As in the comedy that makes up that network these days and not Katy Perry. 3 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/85/#findComment-304087 Share on other sites

nathannah 2401
You could say they finally transitioned to who they were meant to; a fine comedy channel. It always seemed to be trending that way even early on with the other Sinclair networks stuck on drama thanks to Me and Antenna/Rewind and Laff getting most of the sitcoms. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/85/#findComment-304103 Share on other sites

TheRolyPoly 2357
So they're finally selling some stations huh? Why couldn't they do this earlier? Regardless, this is something Scripps should be doing too considering their financial situation. EDIT: I wonder what will happen to the news on WRSP/WCCU if they won't sell those stations. tyrannical bastard 3931
Looks like the buyer is Rincon Broadcasting, and Todd Parkin is listed as the Principal Owner. If the name sounds familiar, it's the same Parkin behind Parkin Broadcasting that bought WYTV in Youngstown and eventually SSAed them to WKBN back in 2007. Sinclair will likely still be in the picture, but made some cash selling some licenses... Either they're trying to slowly slide out of the business under the eyes of the FCC, or are slowly trying to generate cap space for...future expansion? Sinclair gets to run a station without having to deal with the FCC. That's the new owner's problem. Not to mention getting some cold hard cash they may need... Plus, it frees up more opportunities to buy stations even though this new FCC could give them a free pass to go nuts. nathannah 2401
WVTV is very likely going to be the lighthouse 3.0 station for Milwaukee by default (they stepped on a rake selling WCGV for the Sinclair/Tribune deal that failed and the only other station, WMLW, is sharing with low-power WBME-CD), so in technicality Sinclair is just waiting to make all the deals to get their subchannels on other stations and Rincon is de facto just holding a license and submitting FCC paperwork for the station's issues. Because in Youngstown in 2007, GOCOM sold WKBN to New Vision Television while WYTV was sold by Chelsey Television (post-Benedek instead of Gray) to Parkin Media. Seems more like a shell game to me...
