are you serious? A boston station hiring her? no disrespect to her, but she does not have the onair look for a major market. she is too heavy. i think she’s great. But no way she goes to Boston.

What an awful thing to say. If you do not mean any “disrespect” and “think she’s great” then why qualify why you think she doesn’t have the look for a major market? This is no better than unwanted viewer letters that tear people down. And in case you didn’t notice, there have been a number of weather folks in major markets with the trait you listed, notably at WNBC and WGN.

So you decide to criticize her looks? Really?! How derogatory.

I say, she has the experience. If she wants to go to Boston, she should. I don't want her career to end because of what's happening with this mess. Kelly is one of the most popular meteorologists in Rhode Island, and I have loved her forecasts over the many years I've gone to Southern New England on vacation. She is absolutely fantastic. I never saw her for her looks. I saw her for her forecasts, her accurate information, and the experience she has to provide complex information in an easy-to-understand way.

She should be hired based on her experience, not on her looks. I'm sorry I had to rant but this comment is terrible.

I see one of two scenarios for her:

1) She pulls a James Spann and starts a new online operation focused on Rhode Island

2) A Boston station (say, WCVB) decides to hire her

She has dipped her toe into online before, doing forecasts on an RI centric Facebook group, which probably isn't that good an option today.   The online "paper" has a meteorologist - but focuses on major meteorological events than routine.  Sadly her options may be limited, including other staff members let go in this mess, like the Sports Director Nick Coit who served as a mentor to many URI Sports Media majors over the years if they want to stay in the area.

What is scary is this is the future, where media in a mid market is controlled by only two companies with fall out beyond just staff redundancy reductions.  I have a hard time understanding how this is in the public's interest.

I think she is a great weatherperson. But as someone (me) who has been onair talent in major markets.. I can tell you.. certain markets.. one’s weight is definitely a factor in hiring. Many an agent and news director have told me so.

Sinclair is starting to make its on-air presence known, with WJAR providing forecasts for WLNE’s morning shows.

Probably sports to with Nick Coit being fired. Within months the news operation will go, just simulcast of WJARs.  😢

Related to Sinclair... its stations are starting to show up on NewsON. I'm seeing KOKH and KOMO on there as such examples.

Sinclair’s California stations (minus KAEF when they still had local news) have been on the platform for quite awhile

Whoops! Sorry!!!

I meant to say Zeam. Zeam. The Gray/MMM-backed streamer.

I think since Sinclair sold it to Zeam, its allowed them to showcase the Sinclair ones as well.

While Sinclair (and Nexstar) have been busy keeping Jimmy Kimmel off the air, they've been back to their old tricks of peddling misinformation.

It's past time the networks pull their affiliations from Sinclair.  That's the only way they'll learn.

And the FCC Chair is going to reward both companies the permission to buy every tv station in every market and keep pushing false information.  It will probably hasten the switch to network programming to their streaming services, (except O&Os) and render both companies worthlesss.  You can't be successful programming the cheap dreck on the CW.

In an interesting development with KPTM, KHGI/KFXL are now producing weather and a 11 PM newcast for the station. They are advertising it on local radio stations that it's "NTV News on Fox 42" and on the KPTM website, the schedule lists it as Fox 42 news at 11.

This is the 3rd iteration of a outsourced newscast for KPTM (although behind the scene they are now sharing some staff since they have the same GM now overseeing Nebraska).

All around it is interesting because of the cuts that were done to NTV last year, and KPTM the year before.

It took me a second to realize this was at 11pm, not 10pm because they run the entire edition of the National News Desk. I wonder if it's just a replay of NTV's 10pm show, because if it's specifically made for the station, it's baffling scheduling.

The Sinclair shell game has officially come to Mobile and Pensacola...

NBC 15 is moving from WPMI to WEAR 3.2 beginning on October 20th.

WEAR 3.2's "Roar" is moving to WPMI 15.1.

So now at last, "NBC 15" is now officially a Sinclair station without any involvement from Deerfield.  Which does not bode well for its future after what Sinclair has done to the place over the last several years...

Upon further inspection of the Zap2it TV listings post October 20th,  it appears "Charge!" Is also moving to WPMI 15.3 from WEAR 3.3.

WEAR 3.3's listings say "Channel is no longer available" after the 20th.

As for "The Nest" which currently occupies WPMI 15.3, it will probably move to a yet to be created WPMI 15.4.

In order to accommodate "NBC 15" on WEAR 3.2 in HD, that's likely why 3.3 is going away.  And if all of WPMI is going to be in SD (aside from WJTC 44.1's 1.0 feed) they have some extra real estate to split between SD subchannels.

WEAR carries WJTC's two other subchannels in SD since WJTC is a 3.0 station.

And yet again KTUL is looking for a Chief Meteorologist… Jason Nappi has been released from the position and he had only been with 8 for about 3 or 4 months.

The change was finally noted on WPMI's website (with nothing on WEAR's site)...this morning at 9:10 a.m. It feels like they've been trying to sneak these by over-the-air viewers and hoping that they didn't notice anything.

To sum up the changes to WEAR and WPMI:

WEAR

3.1 ABC "WEAR ABC 3"

3.2 NBC "NBC 15"

(both in HD)

WPMI

15.1 Roar (HD)

15.2 Quest

15.3 Charge!

15.4 The Nest

(Subchannels in SD)

WEAR also hosts WJTC 44.2 (Rewind) and WJTC 44.3 (True Crime Network)

WPMI also hosts WJTC 44.1 (UTV44).

WJTC is one of the 3.0 stations in the market carrying all of the Sinclair station's primary streams, as well as relaying WALA 10.1 over the internet.

What the hell is going on at KTUL? Not that there's much of KTUL in the first place.

Because AWS was down WWMT news wasn't on this morning or the noon newscast I saw the note when I was going to check weather at noon, but it was Full Measure.

It's things like these that make deregulation and HUGE companies like Amazon a bad idea....
