The Sinclair-ization thread

WRGB now uses the Sinclair music, but is not using the graphics (expect for weather).

As discussed earlier, they appeared to use Curves.

Meanwhile at the NMSA, WSTM is on the list of using the music package. But how about WTVH and CNY Central?

Over the weekend WRGB did get the Sinclair graphics.

They got a new "6"

They don't really have an open.

I think it's odd that it now says "WRGB News" under the 6.

Many people keep posting they don't like the crawl, which I agree with, because they have the crawl, weather title bar and weather information bar....so the bottom of the screen is cluttered. Today there was nothing on the bottom (except for the lower thirds), that could be because the crawl seemed to be jumping/skipping? or because they got so many complaints.

WSYX used to have an "open" 6 like this that went all the way back to the WTVN days...

Sinclair tweaked the logo into its current form in 1999 and it lasted until their first Sinclair package in 2005 or so when they "closed" the 6 and made it blue.

This looks like a thicker, circleless version of the 1993 update to their 1982 logo which itself is the forerunner of the KMBC/WTVC/WSYR logo only upside down.

That logo brings up memories, both good and bad. WRGB's image in the later Making a Difference years was directionless especially as WTEN and WNYT upped their game.

Impressive. How did they somehow escape "Sinclair-i-zation"?

Hopefully the next step will be to do set refreshes on their stations that were first to go HD. Even better would be individual graphics updates for their larger stations like WSYX/WTTE, KOMO and WBFF.

Im watching their 5p online. It sort of looks like the original Sinclair "News Central" look. They are using the "Curves" music.

If ever there was a logo that needed updating, this is the one. They do a decent job with the graphics and it looks good on their trucks, but the "6" they use is still boring. I wish they would use something more like XETV. I always liked their "6"

It's a carbon copy of Alabama's ABC 33/40 News Set

The new logo is basically a copy of the WKYC logo from the 90's, someone at Sinclair must be a big fan of WKYC because the new KSNV logo used a similar looking "3" to what WKYC uses now. It also looks pretty much the same as the WREG logo too.

If anything it's sort of a throwback to their logo circa-1993...as well as a copy of WSAV's logo in Savannah.

WKYC's was more of a symptom of being a recovering O&O.....Multimedia changed their 80's logo soon after they acquired a majority interest in them. It was more like the "NBC 4" logo that found its way onto the flagships in NY & LA in the 1990s.

And WSTM's prior logo has a nod to WMAQ's 1990's logo.
