J.W. Rodriguez 15
I have a cousin who lives in White Plains, NY, and he's trying to find out when WCBS (and perhaps the other CBS O&O's) started implementing the CBS mornings bug on the Evening News broadcasts. Vidifont 50
Just watched tonight's CBS Evening News. Maurice anchors flawlessly. Lonnie does weather perfect in their new format. Time for a change and it can't happen soon enough. May the Broadcast Center live on, it ain't broke. It's a jewel. MediaZone4K 2172
Has WCBS or CBS News announced the future changes on air yet? Getting way ahead of myself here but.. if Maurice decides he can't pull double duty longterm, and if Lonnie's role expands, would CBS be willing to destabilize 2/3rds of its flagship station's A team to propel it's fluid flagship national broadcast. Again, big promotions but I would keep my WCBS job on the back burner since that has lasted way longer than the last few tenures at CBSEN. MorningNews 1448
Didn’t realize Maurice was keeping his WCBS duties. This format is going to be very interesting. 24994J 5575
There are faint rumblings that CBS might not-so-subtly push solo anchors for their stations' 6 & late newscasts. Kristine is already solo at 6, and if Maurice only stays on doing like 1 show or even just special correspondent, they could certain make her the singular, lead anchor. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14533-cbs-evening-news/page/37/#findComment-300255 Share on other sites

For what its worth, the 11pm is almost always anchored solo if Maurice or Kristine are not there together. As far as WCBS is concerned, I'd personally love to see Cindy, Dick, or Alice get promotions in the evenings but I don't see them going that route. MediaZone4K 2172
Not a rule just a preference... I think there's generally better energy with dual anchors on a local broadcast. 3 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14533-cbs-evening-news/page/37/#findComment-300259 Share on other sites
TheNewsTV 253
Quote This is being described internally as a cost-cutting measure and was not performance-related. Apparently the plan across all CBS owned and operated stations is to go to single-anchor newscasts in the evenings, so in Philadelphia it will be Ukee Washington solo at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. https://www.crossingbroad.com/2024/09/digging-up-some-details-on-jessica-kartalijas-cbs-3-departure.html This news about Jessica Kartalija leaving KYW may explain how the time slots at WCBS will work with Maurice DuBois moving to CBS EN. It looks like CBS O&Os will adopt solo anchors for the 6pm and 11pm newscasts. If Maurice keeps the dual anchoring, perhaps he will do CBS EN and the 11pm solo slot on WCBS. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14533-cbs-evening-news/page/37/#findComment-300266 Share on other sites
MediaZone4K 2172
So that breaks up WCBS's leading team assuming they were moving the needle. 2 hours ago, TheNewsTV said: https://www.crossingbroad.com/2024/09/digging-up-some-details-on-jessica-kartalijas-cbs-3-departure.html This news about Jessica Kartalija leaving KYW may explain how the time slots at WCBS will work with Maurice DuBois moving to CBS EN. From this I'm jumping to the conclusion that Dana Tyler's ouster was moreso a cost cutting measure than ratings. MorningNews 1448
WCBS late night newscast was competitive with WABC a few years ago. I haven’t seen how the Kristine and Maurice duo has performed as of late. That's disappointing. He was a good fit for CBS Saturday Mornings, and the ratings have been quite strong. First off, she was the one who walked away from CBS. She's something else. Norah stepping away is the best decision for the Evening News. I see this as a great opportunity to get the place back on track. That broadcast has been in third place forever, something had to change. Moving to Washington was also not the answer. That was done for Norah to be close to her family. Not a good reason to move an entire broadcast to another city. John and Maurice will do fine. This is a business first and foremost. Not sexism, just plain business. Too much money was spent on the wrong things in the past. Those days are over. Using their own people at their O&Os is the best way to start covering the news of the day. You know I'm glad you brought up sexism word a word that often used to much and loses meaning. I have been waiting for someone to bring this up see personally I thought some white female would bring up sexism with the 2 male co-anchors getting the job and my feeling was at some point there’d be so much outrage CBS will cave and that they'll end up demoting Maurice and keeping John Dickerson. Because personally I believe the feminst movement has been detrimental to black men (especially when it's perpetrated by white females) and since Mauruce doesn't have a huge profile they'd let him go though and keep Dickerson but maybe they let him go too. These 2 qualified people deserve it. Now obviously this is theory in my head but I knew someone would try to make a big deal out of this new lineup, and I knew it be done white female and Im glad it was brought up in this forum. 1 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14533-cbs-evening-news/page/37/#findComment-300565 Share on other sites

MediaZone4K 2172
I love that Margaret Brennan is co-hosting the VP debate as she's usually a tough interrogator on Face the Nation. I'm surprised CBS isn't asking Maurice and John to do it to build boost their profiles before assuming Evening News. I suppose debate hosting is Norah's "last rights" for lack of a better term. John will co-host pre-coverage of the debate. Not sure who the other co-host will be. Could be Maurice (or Gayle or someone else). Brennan needs to remember that she is a moderator and avoid taking, let's just say, an argumentative/combative approach. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14533-cbs-evening-news/page/37/#findComment-300756 Share on other sites

I'm tempted to call Margaret biased because of her combative interviews, but I'm torn because she hammers both sides. She gave the Republican South Dakota governor just as much toughness as she gave Wes Moore when he was downplaying Biden's debate performance. It's not really advertised that Margaret is as harsh an interrogator as she can be. I was surprised when I took the time to watch the program. Sadly, like the CNN presidential debate between Biden vs. Trump in June, the co-moderators won't be doing any fact checking in the CBS vice presidential debate at all. It is a shame, because Brennan is one of the best interviewers among the Sunday morning political show hosts indeed. More importantly, fact checking in debates, particularly with regard to the upcoming consequential U.S. presidential election, is critically important, in my humble opinion. 1 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14533-cbs-evening-news/page/37/#findComment-300758 Share on other sites

The purpose of network fact-checking is for a neutral third party to let the audience know what the truth is. As the old saying goes if one person says it's raining and the other person says it's sunny it's the journalist's job to clarify what's actually happening based on evidence, not simply afford both parties a soundbite. This is why social media companies are in such trouble.
