Late news in Chicago is status quo. At 10pm, WLS (6.0) and WMAQ (4.5) were each down a whole point, WBBM was up to a 2.8. WGN's rating in that slot was not listed, but they gained almost a whole point at 9pm (4.4), while WFLD was also up a couple ticks (2.1).

I think we are going to see the boring July book start to matter in many markets. Stations can no longer ignore the July sweeps...and #1 stations really need to be on point.

The fickle younger viewers need constant stroking and affirmation to remain loyal for 15 seconds or more.

Can't wait to see what that will do for scheduling and vacations...Aug and Dec vacations only...ouch!

Per a promo airing now, KTLA claims victory in all their shows except 6pm and 11pm. Mornings (4-11am), midday (1pm and 3pm), primetime (10pm), and weekend mornings (6-10am). KTLA has been dominant for quite sometime now. All their anchor teams are solid. I hate to see what will happen to this legacy station when Sinclair takes over.

Anyone have any info on Charlotte #s? With Mark Washburn retired from Media Scene, haven't seen any updates since Feb. book. Wondering how things are shaping up between WSOC and WBTV, also how WCNC is faring without Beth Troutman.

Portland is now filled by a market where ownership is crazy people. KATU 2 from Sinclair with their conservative bias, KOIN 6 from Nexstar in which they really don't care about the talent, just upper management and themselves and KGW 8 from TEGNA in which, lets be honest, stopped caring about news since its all social media.

The only company that still cares about traditional news is Meredith, which owns KPTV 12 and imo, has run both KPTV 12 and KPDX 49, very very well. What I said may not be true up top but what is true is that KPTV 12 has dethroned KGW 8 as the #1 news leader in the market:

It seems the story there is the same as in Seattle, where KIRO has gone from also-ran to market leader (and dominance?).

Meredith is one of the most hands-off in terms of owners, acting as little more than the licensee with the stations basically running the show themselves.

Which is what TV ownership SHOULD be because it often makes for stronger stations.

There is one drawback - local incompetence can destroy a station, as it has with WGCL...

WGCL has been screwed up perpetually since Meredith re-christened WGNX. From "Clear News" to CBS 46 to CBS Atlanta and back to CBS 46 and back to CBS Atlanta and back once AGAIN to CBS 46.....

On the Meredith side, they've had some major personnel problems over the years, the biggest being the firing of broadcast head Kevin O'Brien after making racist remarks like "We've got to quit hiring all of these black people...."

Then there's the "Surprise Squad". If there's one thing worse than corporate must runs, it's manipulated drivel like this.

And now, if you want to leave your Meredith job...it will cost you 10K.

I think they may be looking for a way out soon. Given their partnership and content sharing with Raycom, a merger could be in the works and Meredith can focus on their magazines and other content.

Not as if Raycom can do any better. See Snoozefest 19 for an example.

Stations like WOIO and WGCL are doomed from the start regardless of who owns them. They take a lot of investment and have to strike gold to even have a chance. WSB owns Atlanta and the other Cleveland stations have had dominance over WOIO pretty consistently, even during the Bill Applegate / Action News years.

Just saw a promo on KMOV that said that it was the highest rated Late Local News program in the nation. Looking at the fine print on the promo, it says "Nielsen, St. Louis DMA, Top 25 DMA Late Newscasts, July 17 Sweep, Mon-Fri, P25-54 L-SD"

If that's the case, that really helps solidify KMOV's dominance on the market and means that KTVI is slipping again.

Again, that's Meredith caring about their stations (except Atlanta). And KSDK has been at last place for local news for years, even when TEGNA was Gannett, when they were one of the better ownership groups, because of NBC at one point lagging in the ratings (placing fourth between Fox and The CW), before getting better and going up to third place (placing Fox at 4th). The only "Big Four" station in the area that would be worse than KSDK is Sinclair-owned KDNL. Is KSDK on the same level of KGW for airing social media stories?

...Unless WSB says otherwise (but I doubt it)!

(By the way...nothing from Atlanta, which means WSB and WAGA may have been tied for the month)

Sorry to bring up a dead post but we ACTUALLY got a bit of rating news out of Columbus, OH!

WSYX is claiming in a New ad for their Morning Show that it took #1 at 6:00 am which is BIG for the fact that means WBNS isn't number 1 all-around and their Morning Show revamp isn't doing any favors for them.
