Yeah it's an evolution indeed from their previous set, arguably one of the nicest in the market, just well executed and placed properly. The lighting is great, the set is large and no longer cramped, overall a major much needed improvement that we've all waited years for.

Cant wait to see the other one elements and how the dynamics are put it to use during their other shows. Overall it's an incredibly wonderful improvement! Gonna really miss the streetside studio, at this point only Chicago's Eyewitness News (WLS-TV) has the State Street Studio if I remember correctly.

Only gripe I have is the ticker with the Eyewitness News and ABC7NY etc, I don't think having that moving behind them is necessary, its a bit too busy, but other than that, its an amazingly beautiful set! WABC now the cream of the crop with their on air presentation and product.

My opinion, and I'm welcome to it as a non regular viewer. The lighting seems to be too bright and the faces on the set are washed out looking,   Seems to need some adjustment.  The microphone echo is definitely present.  I find the Eyewitness News banner behind the anchors distracting, it's too large.  A smaller banner would work better.

Good thing is that they'll definitely have feedback from on-set and viewers and begin to adjust accordingly. The best thing about a fully new facility is that you will know in real time what to adjust and the viewer doesn't have the old set in mind to compare to the new now.

Can't wait to see the newsroom flashcam if they have one.

Clickspring Design is responsible for the new studio. For what it’s worth, they also designed WABC’s street side studio.

Not a bad choice considering they usually put out very good quality sets. WABC's new digs remind me of the recent NBC Nightly News set in a way just before they moved everything to Studio 1A (right down to the floating 7 in the ceiling).

Lee Goldberg did the last 5pm weather hit and first 6pm weather hit from the roof. It was a pretty cool shot with the World Trade Center in the background and the sunset. He also mentioned many more angles up there and more live shots to come. Should be pretty cool

On the 11 he mentioned the screen behind the giant 7 in the weather center is meant to show the current outside weather (not a live shot but a representation)

Wonder if they automated that or someone needs to manually select in which case take bets how long the feature lasts.

I guess Clickspring doing both the prior and current set explains keeping elements like the big Accuweather repeater when the weather anchor is speaking from the main desk.

It’s likely just a matter of hitting the right preset button (clouds, rain, snow, etc..). Doubtful it’s any more complex than that.

The rendering for the bottom set looks significantly better than the actual thing did. If only it were actually lit that way.

That zoomed out view in the rendering would make for a great opening broadcast shot.

Have they been presenting weather in front of the video wall screen all week like Dani is doing on the 10am show? I can’t remember seeing Lee in front of it.

KTRK does that as well and I’m a big fan of that look vs the traditional green screen.

Oh wow that's exciting! Something to look forward to as the weather inevitably gets warmer!

Wild to see the difference between the outgoing and new studios, glad to know that it's the same designer, at least it retains some familiarity in that way. When you see the rendering of the outgoing set, you do see the age, especially with the tiled background, which was popular in the 2010s. The new set is more refined, cleaner, and just refreshing. I also like the new Wordmark or typeface they used for "EYEWITNESS NEWS" in the new set's rendering. If they actually had switched to that, it would make WABC and KABC uniform but clearly they decided to keep their identities. Thanks for sharing those renders!

Interesting concept but a little weird when the majority of the shot highlights empty desks and powered-off monitors.

That almost reminded me of the old CityPulse news program on Citytv Toronto
