  1. She also called out the new MSNBC leadership for the fact that all the non-white hosts are all losing their shows, mentioning Joy Reid, Alex Wagner, and Katie Phang, saying it is "worse than bad, indefensible" and lashed out at how horrible the new MSNBC leadership was treating the staff at these shows. Saying "this has not happened at this level at the network before, because this is not the right way to treat people. it's inefficient and unnecessary", and went on to say and it "kind of drops the bottom on if people feel like this place is a good place to work, so we generally don't do things this way" and went on about how the way to be successful is to treat people with respect and that's something that they could "do a lot better on, a lot better". She has been critical of MSNBC in the past, but I have never seen her go this far against network leadership before. I think Rebecca Kutler just realized she can't behave the same deplorable way she did at CNN at MSNBC. Hosts are going to attack you for your horrible decisions on air, staff are going to record your private meetings and release them to the media. She has clearly lost the support of MSNBC's most high profile host, and that's really not a good position to be in as president of the network. Rebecca Kutler can make all the excuses she wants, but this looks really bad. The Reidout was not bombing in the ratings, it was outperforming all the CNN primetime shows. The viewership of Joy Reid's show was similar to that of Jen Psaki. Yet, Joy's show gets cancelled and Jen gets promoted to take over Alex Wagner (the only other non-white weeknight host) in the 9:00pm slot. Meanwhile, the show that has shed the most viewers (The 11th Hour) remains unchanged. The show that has angered a lot of MSNBC's audience (Morning Joe) remains unchanged. A panel show that airs weekend mornings is now going to air in primetime, that's a huge risk, it will need to gain hundreds of thousands of new viewers, and will need to win over very upset viewers of The Reidout. It's a very reckless decision to try out a new show like this at 7:00pm ET. And the changes she made to the weekend schedule seem idiotic to me. While MSNBC's weeknight primetime ratings were strong, weekend ratings struggled, and she has decided to take the 2 highest rated weekend shows (and the only weekend shows MSNBC bothered to promote) off of the weekend schedule and move them to weeknight primetime, so the new weekend shows will have to launch without the benefit of having a strong lead-in / lead-out. Repeats at 6:00am ET when everyone else has live news, a new 3 hour panel show at 7:00am ET, followed by 3 hours of Ali Velshi, 3 hours of Alex Witt, an hour of repeats, Al Sharpton, and then another panel show starting at 6:00pm (and I assume running until 9:00pm, so 3 hours of the same new untested show) is the new weekend schedule. So if one of these new panel shows bombs in the ratings (which is likely, especially the 6pm ET panel show which will have repeats & Al Sharpton as a lead-in), it's going to bring down 3 hours of programming with it. There's not really much of a reason to watch MSNBC on the weekend if you want some variety. Basically 4 shows each running 3 hours.

  2. I"ll post this here since it does involve our new FCC commissioner, Brendan Carr. He visited Spanish Fort, Alabama today to climb to the top of WKRG's broadcast tower. https://www.fcc.gov/document/carr-visits-alabama-tower-workers-public-safety-officials-tv-station https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEld4LA7f4U (The above links don't reference WKRG, but it was confirmed by WKRG reporter Debbie Williams that it was their tower) Perhaps he should have visited WEAR/WFGX and WPMI/WJTC to see what four stations under common management looks like!

  3. I wish they would begin each broadcast with that fantastic shot of the celing circle seven perching over the anchor desk, rather than a wide shot of the anchor desk.

  7. They must be "testing" the pairing of Chris and Kristine (even tho they were together) because Jessica did a report from the desk tonight. In my opinion moving him to evenings would be a great option.

  8. How many compilation videos of local news opens especially the major market stations from NYC, LA, and Chicago have any mention of every channel they took clips from? Nearly none. And I bet 90% didn’t ask permission either. I think Drew Techner is just sore about it and doesn’t get the nostalgia purpose behind it. He doesn’t make money from it and nor do I. Also my Publix Holiday Commercial Mega Montage made it to a couple of newspapers recognizing its nostalgia to Floridians. Publix’s marketing team never had a problem with it.

  11. Well-put. Something about him really rubs me the wrong way. He feels like he was created in the same test tube in the same lab as Muir and Glor were. I actually think a better pick would be Kate Snow. She's a solid anchor and was the Sunday Nightly News anchor for many years. Of course, she gave that up to focus on Daily five days a week, and I'm sure that must be a far less stressful gig with better quality of life than the main Nightly gig.

  14. It’s likely going to be Llamas who replaces Holt and I could see Jackson taking weekends (in addition to a more prominent role on NN during the week). Which means, Diaz-Balart moves to NBC News Now as they could use more NBC News veterans. And now that they cut his MSNBC show, he’s free to do more. Guthrie should remain on Today. I know they have been pushing her the past couple of years, but she can be insufferable.

  15. Any show or network overtaking another is a tough task in the modern streaming era. For most networks and shows, its about retaining the viewers you still have. To start, if Tom (or whoever the successor may be) can hold Lester's numbers, that's a fine win. As @EVVTV12 summarized above, Lester isn't leaving because of ratings, health, major shakeup... His exit is on par with his predecessors, and seems by all accounts to be in his terms- That suggests NBC has been happy with how things have fared with NN, and if anything they'll want the successor to maintain the status quo.

  17. Whoever replaces him won’t be able to fill his shoes, Lester is by far the most neutral reporter the network has had. Clearly whoever replaces him which will probably Tom Llamas will have a hard time getting to his level.

  18. This is the story on the appeal: https://tvnewscheck.com/regulation/article/media-and-democracy-project-appeals-dismissal-of-fox-broadcast-license-challenge/ Considering Brendan Carr revived three complaints against ABC, CBS and NBC from a right-wing groups masquerading as a neutral arbiter over media coverage that Trump perceived as unfair to him, the Media and Democracy Project’s appeal could make that action look more politically motivated in the end. If the FCC denies MAD’s appeal, despite reviving the other equally fruitless complaints and given Fox’s alignment with the right-wing through Fox News and Fox Business (despite Trump’s complaints about their coverage of the 2020 election results, the same election he still claims was rigged against him), it’d only serve as ammo for claims that Carr is misusing his authority as FCC Chair to target MSM outlets over Trump’s personal grievances against them, especially if punitive actions of some kind were meted out in relation to the other complaints. In fact, MAD claims that the dismissal of its complaint by Carr’s former colleague, Jessica Rosenworcel, on First Amendment grounds was politically motivated, despite none of them being merited. The reasoning behind MAD’s complaint, based on actions by a separate Fox Corporation division, wouldn’t have merited a license revocation, just as the reasoning behind the other complaints wouldn’t merit revocation or other actions (such as denial of license transfers in the Paramount-Skydamce merger, which would be telling and prompt legal action if Carr and the FCC board’s GOP members ultimately do that).

  19. I don’t watch anymore. They cover stories in a breathless fashion with too many mini-packs. Lester jumps to the next topic too fast. Meanwhile, CBS has a great format now. Theirs is the Huntley-Brinkley report of this day.

  22. A few quick notes... CBS 2 is now using a bolder/wider font in the lower-third tab. I think it looks much better. Also, as the picture shows, Elijah Westbrook has been doing traffic lately. Guy Staniar, who was the regular traffic reporter but never appeared on-screen, has been out for at least the last four or five weeks. In the beginning, the usual off-camera fill-in, Anique Evans, was there. Then they had reporter Natale Duddridge do it a few times on camera, even at least one morning when she was also anchoring. (Natalie was the regular traffic anchor back when Alex Denis left, but then the station eventually dropped traffic for a bit.) Now it's been Elijah the last few weeks. I've heard them mention at least once or twice that he's "in for Guy" but it's been a while. Hope everything is OK. But I definitely prefer having the traffic anchor on camera. Also, now that Paramount/CBS are apparently about to be in a dispute with YouTube TV, they've been doing that ticker thing we've seen on other stations. (Does this show up only for YouTube TV users or does everyone see it?) They had a two-line version this morning but a slimmer one as of noon.

  29. What gets me is when Michael Pannoni loses an account for suspensions, his other accounts *stay intact*...the ones without strikes or only 1 or 2 strikes. This move marks a new low for YouTube, and if they respond "after review, (bleep) you VHSgoodies! Your hobby, no matter how many people you've inspired, and how many TV station employees thanked you for posting vintage news content from their station, is dead to us and it should be to you too!"...time to boycott YT and go elsewhere. 31. As of Yesterday for the 4pm broadcast, they now finally feature a 7 Day Accu-Weather forecast as opposed to the 5 Day. The 7 day looks a bit cluttered, but I guess that's because they had to make the change in house since the graphic was designed for a 5 day one instead. Anyway it's pretty awesome that they have a 7 day now rather than a 5 day.

  32. Hello everyone, Invision Community, the software that powers this forum, is preparing a major upgrade that we will likely be moving to in the coming months. While there are a number of changes and improvements that I'm looking forward to, one change may negatively impact some folks around here. Logging in to the forum will require entering the account's email address, instead of the account's username. This will not affect you if you're using Google or Discord as a method to login. How can you prepare for this? It's easy! Check the email address associated with your account by clicking here and making sure it's up to date. This is also an important thing to do in case you ever get locked out of your account and need to change your password. There will be additional notice made before this change happens, and I am considering turning the feature on before the software upgrade as a way to prepare. Please note: for security reasons, under no circumstances will I disclose an account's email address. If you get locked out of your account because your email is not current/you are unsure of what email is tied to your account, you will need to create a new account. 33. Time to add another name to the expanding list of TV news retirements this year: KWTV's Dean Blevins. 1400 KREF's Toby Rowland is coming back full-time (he was part-time as an analyst for their Sunday night Oklahoma Sports Blitz) to become sports director. https://www.facebook.com/NEWS9/posts/pfbid023i1pziMhHtkiynjYD2HuwYz6QA83afT5rW9MGF1DceP8tTgqeeLMyPbwiEaU78bBl EDIT: I have to add another one.
