Nexstar has entered the must-run game. Why? So they can try and own more stations. https://thedesk.net/2025/04/nexstar-fcc-must-runs-ownership-caps-deregulation/ No thanks. They have enough stations as it is. And their tactics of delaying web streams and shaking down viewers for a dwindling pool of retransmission cash is bad enough.4 points

There was probably a vacate date of March 31 so it was something they literally could not wait for, and Disney wants to showcase their new building and spaces in a unique way. No harm, no foul here.3 points

The tactic of a TV station group encouraging people to call a MVPD when they can't reach a retransmission agreement has been a major cringe of mine since it became a thing. Trying to get your viewers to cosplay federal lobbyist by posting messages with growth and investment as a euphemism for consolidation on the site formerly known as Twitter is several steps worse than that. If a company wants to advocate for itself, great. Find something authentic to demonstrate how deregulation benefits people who aren't named Perry Sook. A low-energy social media astroturfing campaign where they don't explain what they want is pretty weak. Especially considering the biggest hurdle to stop it from happening with the current balance of power in DC is it gets put on the back burner and forgotten.2 points

To clarify, I didn't say outright this setup would be full-time, but thanks for bringing this to my attention.2 points

It is Monday, April 7, 2025. And yes, it's time. Live with Kelly & Mark officially debuted (from the Great Room on 10th floor) at its new home of 7H². Reminds me a lot of the studio of the first season of Anderson Cooper's talk show. (Coincidentally and ironically, he was Live's final guest at the old UWS studio.)2 points

The new studio is finished as of February. It's just a matter of finishing up some technical stuff before they can fully broadcast from there.2 points

This is a losing strategy for sure, and in the smaller markets where there's already no other choice but Nexstar (aka the first ones to be sold off to vultures like Standard and AMG so they can get pointless pipe dreams like a WGN/WCIU duopoly) this will not go well for them. Less competition has been nothing but bad for them, and the 'competition' they've provided in SouthernBorderNation (does NewsNation report on anything else) has not been close to worthy at all.1 point

Problem with this tactic is that much of the public either doesn’t care about or opposes the idea of the type of media monopolies Nexstar wants. Considering the animosity many conservatives have against the media (fed further by Trump’s attacks on the press), I doubt many of them support the idea of big media getting inordinately bigger with no limits, either. The only support comes from Beltway conservatives (including those who want to entrench their political power) and billionaire media moguls, so Nexstar isn’t reading the temperature of the public well.1 point

KPRC finally has the graham graphics. Trying to identify their new music. Graphics are blah. They got rid of the peacock on the bug. Still no time and temp bug.1 point

That article indicates it is a Disney PR approach to showing off their new NYC digs. Disney is the king of self promotion.1 point

From what I can gather (from a quick google search) is that ratings haven’t been good for GMA3. In addition, ABC wants everything placed under the GMA banner (eliminating the staff of GMA3, etc…). This appears to be a part of bigger changes expected to happen over the coming months.1 point

Apparently this spot is for this week only - full studio in a week. https://people.com/find-out-where-kelly-ripa-and-mark-consuelos-will-film-live-before-they-premiere-new-set-117087301 point

One of the oldest OTA TV sports partnerships will continue... WKYC and the Guardians. https://tvnewscheck.com/programming/article/wkyc-cleveland-guardians-extend-broadcast-rights-agreement/1 point

I’ve always thought it made more sense to have it on at 9am right after the mothership. Most ABC affiliates air Live with Kelly and Mark then, which could easily move to 10am on the east coast. Tamron Hall (on a lot of ABC affiliates on east coast) could slide to 1pm, with GH at 2pm, and local news starting at 3pm. The issue would be the central/mountain/pacific time zones.1 point

I saw the anchorless newscast on Fri at 6:30PM Opening Day for the White Caps the morning team trying the new food items that look nasty and gross but I'm a picky eater. I don't really like the anchorless newscast they did have an update to a news story which was national before the weather. And WXMI FOX17 cut the 5AM newscast on the weekends now Cirictlee movie review show at 5AM and The Pulse a political show from sister TV station WXYZ SAT & Sun.1 point

Eva specifically mentioned that Will Reeve was in for DeMarco, but it's not entirely clear if Lara and/or Sam will be on every day. Either way, they all seem to be equals as co-hosts.1 point

Mornings will not be the same, but I give my congrats to Larry on 40 years with WCNC and I wish him the best of luck on new adventure with the station! Chris Mulcahy is a really good successor as well!1 point

Wow she was a great talent! Thats a bummer! –Im kinda not surprised though, her personality was just too big for the role she had. So I'm sure she'll land somewhere pretty quick.1 point

WSTM Channel 3 News 11 O'Clock Report (April 10, 1983) KTBS Channel 3 News at 10:00 (partial; February 23, 1987) KTBS Channel 3 News "The Scene at Five" (most of it, missing the open; January 11, 1989)1 point

The neighborhood reporters thing isn’t actually a bad concept. WXYZ is giving its plethora of reporters each a beat. And it’s sending them out to rustle the bushes for stories in their assigned area. All but a handful (5 or less) of their air talents are not from Detroit so the reporters they are hiring know the area. If you do it right it’s pretty workable. They haven’t reduced anchor time and the quality is much improved overall. So if done well it’s a win. Certainly an improvement over all the failed Scripps ideas.1 point

Apologies for bumping this but is there any word on how much longer it will be before they officially move and start broadcasting from the new building?1 point

KTVI and KDVR would be great candidates for this package... Nexstar has some big FOX stations in larger markets that would make them stand out1 point

So Chris and Jacqui are both out after being removed from Storm Center a little over 5 months ago. The fact that they both left at almost the same time tells me that both of them were not being renewed by TWC. As for the Allen station hits, I'm told that Carl Parker and Todd Borek are two of the OCMs doing those hits. Not sure if any others are involved. With Chris and Jacqui gone, plus Carl and Todd focusing all efforts on the local hits, plus Jim Cantore and Alex Wilson off today, TWC went with a super bizarre OCM lineup for today's severe weather coverage. AMHQ Shift 1: Stephanie Abrams, Jordan Steele, and Reynolds Wolf AMHQ Shift 2: Jen Carfagno and Molly McCollum TWC Live: Alex Wallace and Felicia Combs Weather Unfiltered: Chris Bruin and Dr. Rick Knabb Extra 10pm-2am ET shift: Dr. Greg Postel and Mike Bettes So apparently the strategy was to move everyone downward from their normal timeslots just to fill out the schedule.1 point

Deborah Norville will be leaving Inside Edition after 30 years as its host. https://deadline.com/2025/04/deborah-norville-leaving-inside-edition-1236357493/1 point

So are they just hiring the Weatherology Voicebot 4000 to do Allen station weather hits? It feels like they should be adding staff rather than subtracting from it, and hiring cheaper and younger inexperienced talent (God forbid the worst of young WeatherTwitter) just puts them in the same boat.1 point

I get that sentiment and agree with it but it’s probably unlikely that viewers determine who they watch based off of set design.1 point

Agreed. They and Sinclair want to own multiple channels in every market if left unchecked. That's not good for viewers.0 points

I thought that Deborah was leaving Inside Edition as she is hosting the game show when that got cleared a couple of weeks ago. Plus, Deborah has been taking a lot of breaks these past few years as well she had a great run at Inside Edition which no one will match that 30 years as host of Inside Edition in my opinion.0 points
