  1. You read that right. KWQC commissioned it (thanks to Cyle Dickens' help nonetheless) and will debut on June 10th.

  2. The current music pkg isnt even music. Its weak boring.. nothing. A few lame sounds to put you to sleep. This is at least a music pkg with some style. God.. why have the Scripps stations become so boring and vanilla. They are unwatchable. No energy. WXYZ is the worst offender. Is that on purpose?

  9. I like the look (7 day is gross). Music could use more "umphf" to it I think. But it's definitely an upgrade. Wasn't the current package (Scripps v3) purposely designed to only last a few years? I thought I remember that being a point of discussion here. It was new for the sake of new, but done quickly and cheap, and not meant to last 10 years.

  10. I’ll offer my piece: CBS is probably in even worse shape than even the Tisch years. It seems like whatever plagued Viacom in the 2010s has finally claimed CBS (and to an extent, Showtime). As someone said, other than the NFL and college football and basketball, what sports does CBS have to hang its hat on? The Big Ten deal is a massive downgrade compared to those SEC years. They have golf, but post-Tiger Woods, it’s not really popular. Outside of that, it’s mostly stuff that would’ve been on CBS Sports Network a decade ago. Say what you will about the other networks, but they have a robust slate of sports like NBC with the NFL, the NBA, and likely the MLB. Or ABC with the NHL, NFL, college football, etc, all via ESPN. And then there’s the news division. Dear God, the news division. Between wondering who is anchoring CBS Evening News this week, the scandals with 60 minutes, and the curse of Captain Kangaroo that permeates the 7-9am timeslot, CBS News has been a joke post-Cronkite, but especially since Scott Pelley left Evening News and CBS had to revamp its morning show for the 5000th time. Oh, and primetime! Jumping Jesus, primetime! What is primetime on CBS like in 2025? Ten different versions of NCIS, FBI, and Blue Bloods, few if any comedies, and an excuse to give away Chevy Traxs and Hyundai Accents before the 11pm news. Yes, I’ve long accepted that broadcast TV is on life support. However, watching CBS is the equivalent of watching your elderly family member on life support and in pain. It’s that unbearable.

  13. Couldn’t help but notice the stand up area with the faux windows near the desk has been removed. So they’re now down to just home base and the interview area. Curious to see what the end result of this set remodel (?) will be. Also, a Chicago city grid has been added as a third background option (along with a tv monitor and the Fox 32 logo) in Studio 32.

  18. Reminders of final day today for local news anchors: • WRGB's Liz Bishop after an amazing 52-year run. The special half-hour at 6pm will be her last. • NBC's Lester Holt (already mentioned in another thread). • KCTV's Carolyn Long after 28 years. • WDBJ's Jean Jadhon after 33 years. EDIT: Adding a meteorologist: • WTLV/WJXX's Tim Deegan after 43 years. I can't think of more but get those recorders ready for historical preservation on YouTube.

  20. Cool, what was the story / process / inspiration that got you to that arrangement? Pretty iconic, nailed the newsy urgency and authority with some ebbs and flows. I remember it being used for many years.

  21. The openings looks good. More generic white box L3s graphics (yawn) but definitely an upgrade from their current flat blue rectangle L3. It looks like a better version of WPIX's mid 2010s package. I think the lower third would look better if the "Right now at 5:00 subject line" were placed above the white box, not within it. I like the depth on some of these graphics such as here. The curves remind me of the ABC O&O graphics. Can't wait to see these on WPTV.

  22. Hopefully this fixes the stations that cram entirely too many words into one super. These are the ones that have the constant L3 that switches from the story, to the person on camera, back to the story. With text sizing, these supers are downright unreadable. Wish a group would bring back a form of "Texta", this was the non-obtrusive lower graphic that summarized a story that was introduced by WKRC in Cincinnati. It lasted through Citicasters into Jacor, Clear Channel and Newport, and Newport rolled it out to many of their stations. Some Nexstar stations (post-Newport) even used it and it survived on several ex-Newport Sinclair stations until the respective Sinclair package was introduced.

  24. Yeah, I've been working on uploading the new opens over the last few days. (Playlist that I'll keep updating...) Meanwhile, it looks like they're trying to go toe-to-toe with WGN's morning after-show. Streaming at 10 (as I type this) is Chicago Now with Anthony & Kaitlin.

  31. So it looks like he did "transition to a behind the scenes role" on January 12, although it seemed like when he left, he not only took himself, but also the graphics package and Emma Ott, the only other reporter which didn't seem like they belonged in market 150 or below. Odds are will 50/50 this make its two year anniversary and close to zero it runs to the end of the year.

  32. Its entirely possible that there's now two version of GrayONE, with version A being what we have seen with WAFF, KMOV, WCSC, etc and version B being what we are seeing on KNOP and KNSB. Other than the ticker and font there certainly are similarities between the two. Its possible there test alternative packages in smaller markets. Additionally, this could be an alternative to be primarily used by ABC affiliates, but optional for others.

  36. I’m watching it right now, and WOAH. You added good graphics, outside reporters, and news EXCLUSIVES? My goodness. I do think that if it’s only an 8pm newscast, you could probably add more newscasts at different times.

  38. Not saying I agree with that comment to begin with, but in the interest of fairness: csreedabc is Chris Reed, owner of Newsmusic Central and also a copyright lawyer in his day job. So I can see why he said what he said.

  39. Not sure who first replied to NMN’s comment, but if we’re going to be honest, I don’t think they are “well positioned to be commenting…” They clearly don’t understand how big of a risk this could’ve been to the future of News Music Now and even NMSA. I wouldn’t say NMN has unauthorized use. I know the news music publishers know about News Music Now. Some publishers I’ve spoke with have mentioned the site, other publishers have been tagged in his posts and they’ve reacted to and even commented his posts. He has taken steps to prevent copyright violations and this exact situation from happening. Luckily, this was all a VERY BIG misunderstanding and he actually has a license for News One. But if cuts start getting ripped from the site by tv stations to use, they could view News Music Now and even the NMSA as a threat and ask for the sites to be shut down, then what would we all do? With all that being said, let this be a lesson to all of us, myself included… “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”. Austin is taking a chance and following a dream and that’s more than a lot of people can say. I hope these people criticizing him and critiquing him are reaching out to him and offering to help in any way possible; and if not, sit back down. I know I hope to see it grow and this newscast be successful.

  40. In the interest of fairness, as the person responsible for posting the video that went "viral".... Austin Reed did post tonight's newscast and he did take everyone's concerns to heart. He has replaced all of the various music lifted off of News Music Now with proper News One tracks that he is authorized to use, downloaded directly from WCPM, and only that package. I think he did read the FTVLIve piece that was published this morning and got rid of the podcaster-hosted sports segment in favor of an extended interview. He also put a disclaimer at the end that it was recorded at CentralValleyTalk.com studios (an obvious swipe at FTVLive for claiming that it was shot in his basement). He actually did license it — he sent my friend the contract he has with WCPM, so it is legal. Mark Agent is a legitimate person, the licensing director for WCPM. Apparently he had difficulties downloading the audio tracks and resorted to NMN for the first show. Should he have done that? No, but give him credit for getting that rectified quickly. News Music Now is very much aware. He commented on my video: They are licensed, so nothing is going to come of this. At the end of the day, I do feel kind of bad that Austin has received some of the hate he's gotten. Some of it is rightfully so and well deserved: lifting others' news video (even if he gave a YouTube credit) is not acceptable, and is not fair use if he's profiting off of it (which he is, there's advertising, it's all direct response ads, but there's ads) and he does seem to be making some strides to getting things right. There was a fair amount of lifted video this evening so I think it'll take him a while, but nowhere near the amount that there was Friday. The presentation could use a lot of work, and he knows that. He is actively shopping around for a graphics package and has had interest from a couple of designers. Given the fact that is a one person operation, I will give him credit and I think this product is only going to improve over time. He had a week to launch (they were airing NewsNet in the timeslot the past three months after they declined to renew their outsourcing arrangement with KFSN at the end of 2021) and I guess they had to have NewsNet gone by the end of March. So I will give him a lot of props for stringing together what he could on such short notice.

  47. Wow! (That's an oh boy, put on your rubber boots because this could be a shit storm, "wow") What I find most interesting about this is the reaction comments on Facebook. The people are soo straight forward and down right will say if they hate it or love it, and they have. Like anything this will take some time to get used to. Some of the people surely noticed a huge change. Comments include: "Wake up every morning to you guys....but the promo is kinda weird...like everyone is freaking out on a coffee rush....it's way over the top, just tone it down a bit." "Love it. Different from the usual tone of your promos, but cool nonetheless. Love ABC news." "Cheesy" " I just threw up a bit in my mouth. Can I get that minute back that I just wasted?" "Bring on the excitement, wonderful, great job Team ABC 7!!!!!!" "You paid for that?" "U could have come up with a better song." "wow - very modern style promo; excellent!" "Ha...we'll give you a couple minutes of REAL news and then the rest of the time we'll fill in with reports of make-overs, summer fashion, cats stuck in trees, and weather, weather, weather, oh...did I mention weather?" "Reminds me of intro to windy city live." "My Lord its like a LAXATIVE commercial." "If you're up@ 4:30am you don't want all that noise..liked the old softer, more dignified version better. The new version is obnoxious and annoying" "I like everything except the music!!!!" Wow! Hold on Boys and Girls!
