And as this comes into play. Let us reflect on all the NBC 5 sets of the NBC Tower in the last 35 years!3 points

Looking pretty good. I’m sure they will be happy to have some breathing room given their current situation. My guess is a November reveal [in time for sweeps].2 points

The 18.1 placement really doesn't matter for anything but cable carriage. Not that it matters because LPTVs are excluded from must-carry rules.2 points

WRAL has a store in the Raleigh-Durham airport. It’s just a market with supplies for travelers. I assume its real purpose is just like any other form of advertising. It exposes newcomers and visitors to the WRAL brand. https://www.rdu.com/wral-travel-store/2 points

Just going to flag that this shouldn't be a list. Airport newsstands and what WDIV is doing are very different ventures.1 point

Network 10 in Australia recieved a brand refresh coinciding with the debut of 10 News+. 10 Bold Drama changed to 10 Drama, 10 Peach Comedy changed to 10 Comedy, and the Network 10 logo no longer has a circle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0R2DEGX2eM&t=105s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okD6JRi5U4s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqP2XJIUcI4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBGcMTXFrYM1 point

CNBC has shops in multiple airports, though they're also just news/convenience stores with branding. I remember seeing one in Charlotte back in 2007.1 point

Nothing will happen Biden said the F-bomb when Obamacare was passed. I say let the F-Bomb fly it isn't that big a deal in my opinion, and I don't get why lots still get offended by the F-Bomb in this day and age broadcaster should be allowed to have the F-Bomb fly in primetime maybe for 10PM to 6AM that is safe harbor but seems that the broadcasters don't use it for some reason.1 point

After some people have been pondering for almost a year this question: When will KOTV 6 in Tulsa finally get a new set after their sister station KWTV just down the Pike got theirs last September? We finally have our answer https://www.newson6.com/story/685db2b747edbfd2ad80ecd3/news-on-6-tulsa-new-set-debut1 point

It is true that Allen got a little too stupid but its safe to say that calling stations damaged goods isn't exactly what people want to hear/see. So, basically, have them (Nexstar or Gray) have a majority of the potential revenue in One particular area or state by making Allen sell ALL of the AMG stations to them... Then, basically run them as ... [Checks notes.] ...Semi-satellites of existing stations? Deregulation aside, how would they let this happen? And would that actually be fair for the viewers? Also, doesn't the FCC (Not now, of course) make sure that not only the top 4 stations in a certain area can't be co-owned, but also trying to (semi) clamp down on ... for example, a NBC affiliate on 9.1 having a ABC-affiliated subchannel on 9.2? Also, didn't Nexstar stop bulk-buying stations after 2019 with Tribune? Same thing with Gray Media with the Raycom Media and the Meredith Corporation stations in 2019, and 2021 respectively? If they were in the buying mood, they would've bought a lot more stations in 2024–2025.1 point
-
The alternative is having them all go under because no one wants a bunch of damaged or destroyed goods that Byron ruined with his ineptitude and ego. Nexstar are Gray are the prohibitive favorites because they somehow and inexplicably keep getting money to finance their purchases, plus it's no secret that Perry Sook just wants to own everything. It's again the perfect test case for unfettered deregulation by Brendan Carr provided that the buyer is someone he likes, and he likes Nexstar. Run them as rumps of their existing properties. WJRT becoming an appendage of WNEM, WAAY as an appendage of WAFF, etc. It'll cost way too much money for anyone else to bring those stations back up to par in an already contracting industry.1 point
-
...Even though, yet, Nexstar or Gray isn't in the mood to buy the whole Allen chain. Plus, if the station count and the stations in the area that Gray or Nexstar and AMG have stations in, some of the stations are successful enough that the failing station waiver doesn't work AND, like I mentioned, yet, it won't be approved. Plus, what would they even do with the stations anyway?1 point

KIMT doesn't do news from Mason City anymore, but today, they did so instead. Why? Its been 30 years since Jodi Huisentruit went missing. Special editions of their newscasts were done from the original building, along with a flower and a picture of Jodi in the background.1 point

This is what Sunbeam plans to do with its current property in North Bay Village, with the facility breaking ground in 2027. This comes, of course, as WSVN plans to move to Miramar by next year. This looks like something that could work, and I like how they're doing this. TEGNA stations across the West are joining forces to bring you a weather-only program called Weather Out West on streaming. Stations featured? KXTV Sacramento KFMB San Diego KING/KONG Seattle KGW Portland KREM/KSKN Spokane KTVB Boise KUSA/KTVD Denver KPNX Phoenix/KMSB Tucson (TEGNA owns the latter and airs KPNX news there too) It appears to be a daily occurrence, but I'm not entirely sure. Today, its KING 5's Ashley Ruiz hosting (and delivering the Seattle forecast) with a national summary from WXIA-TV Atlanta's Julie Martin (remember her? From TWC?).1 point

That too bad for Byron Miranda I thought he could be a really good successor to Mr. G if he retired. He definitely had the potential I do not like Stacy Ann like that I wouldn’t be surprised if she started some things that pissed him off.1 point

Los Angeles is the market that can sustain such ludicrous amounts of newscasts (and that's including stuff not really news i.e. police chases with people doing it solely for the attention). And it's not like Nexstar wants to use KTLA to actually develop non-news shows, that's crazy talk.1 point
-
If you click on the picture, you can see a bit inside the store, but unfortunately, there's no WRAL merchandise. Its just a marketing purpose with no real merch for us fanatics of WRAL-TV, which kinda stinks because I'd wish they did have some so I can buy some whenever I'm in the Raleigh market.1 point

That’s probably going to happen within weeks. It underscores how much of a contradiction Miami is. One half is extremely superficial and transient, the other half are the deeply paleoconservative Cuban emigres for which WPLG was blatantly pandering to with the “no bias” tagline. Neither of those groups would seem receptive to national and world news (the latter likely only regarding Cuba and for the most cynical of reasons). Unlike others here and elsewhere, to me, this feels like a recipe for disaster for WPLG. I can’t exactly give them or WANF any real chance for success when the industry is encountering so many headwinds and with syndication becoming extinct.1 point
-
The notion of over-diluting one’s brand with too much local news continues to feel self-destructive. In what way is WPLG going to benefit by airing more news to a smaller overall audience? And especially when they are simply Xeroxing the 6:30 network newscast, which is itself a game of total attrition? To be blunt, WPLG might just be the biggest blotch on what was a sterling career for Warren Buffett. His successors can’t wait to offload it to Nexstar.1 point

I will say at least the new set will help with the seamless transition between "local 10 news" and "local 10 world news"1 point

So they're going the WJXT route when they first went Independent and had Eyewitness World News for a short time. However, they may also look to KHON's Hawaii's World Report for some inspiration.1 point

I think it's a good idea. Local TV news needs all the help it can get, and this is a very innovative way of doing it. This'll help viewers have a more personal connection with WDIV. Also, the article mentions that WDIV is moving production of their daily lifestyle show there.1 point

First of all, this is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Secondly, are things so profitable with Sean McLaughlin at Graham that they can afford to do this?1 point

Nexstar's WETM has made history by having the first all female, all black weather team -- Don't know what the demographic is for the Elmira, NY area, but you'd think this would've happened in a larger market.. Nonetheless, a great feat indeed!1 point

I was actually thinking the same after I posted my comment. Not only is it spacious in that atrium, but it has a nice, massive picture window view of some of the urban landscape of that area, as well. That atrium reminds me of the upper floor studio across town that had a gigantic picture window view overlooking Columbus Circle that television productions have used over the years.1 point

They can definitely do the concerts in that atrium space they filmed Live with Kelly and Mark the first week they moved to Hudson Square.1 point

Changes coming to the morning newscasts. Tamala Edwards moving to 10 am After 20 years of the dawn patrol, and overnights on ABC before that, sleeping in will probably be a welcome change.1 point

Steve Dolinsky is getting out of broadcasting entirely at the end of the month, taking a job scouting for concepts and collaborations for Levy Restaurants. His research will inform and mold the foods they serve at sports and entertainment venues across the country. The company is based in Chicago. He also mentions the brand new studio they'll be getting later this year.1 point

WFAA's 7-9 morning newscast on WFAA+ launched this morning. It doesn't appear to be on KFAA at this time, but that may change. For a station like WWL, it would almost be like a second coming of the newscast CBS took away from them to put on WUPL. Too bad the damage has already been done there as WVUE rules the market.0 points

And for Comcast homes, it's not even the position they care about the most; they'll probably promote wherever they land in the HD 430s tier instead, because they know outside those who still haven't been moved to streaming/Xumo boxes, very few watch SD channels at that position, outside of DVR space saving/'stubborn olds'. It may even just take channel 431 from WPLG and they'll have to move and switch channel positions in the 430-450 tier with another station (444 is blank so that's a possibility). But on YouTube TV, Hulu, Fubo or anything else, it'll be seamless for ABC viewers, including recordings, while WPLG likely end up with having to start all over, and will find itself having to negotiate their own carriage in the future.0 points
