So both KXGN and KYUS are joining Montana PBS later this year. Both were sold to Montana State University for $375,000.3 points

Apologies if this isn't the right place but I also didn't want to create an entire new thread but, if there is one thing that's bothered me with the new look for the Evening News, it's the intro, it so simple, so, here's an intro concept!2 points

Damn, this pretty much seals the fate of the Glendive market. Since it's basically a no-man's land for local TV (since the local cable/internet company seemingly ended TV service, DirecTV never started local service, Dish's channels are mostly out of South Dakota and the only "local" station on YTTV aside from KXGN/CBS was WMAQ in Chicago), it will probably be merged into the Billings market and all of their stations will now serve Dawson County, Montana. Then again, Denver may step in for another far-off remote orphaned county like they do across Wyoming, Utah and any other state they pick up the slack for any other market that won't serve them. Also, this is the end of Stephen Marks' company since they are his (estate's) last two stations since the others have been sold. Marks' former radio stations in Glendive were sold to an entity owned by Andrew Sturlaugson, the son of KXGN-TV station manager Paul Sturlaugson. Keeping things in the Sturlaugson family, Paul's wife Dorothy was the host of KXGN's sole remaining local program "Let's Talk About it", and was also their public affairs manager.2 points

I think in this case he had good reason to walk; whatever they offered beyond 20/20, it's all a downgrade.2 points

In an explosive announcement, CBS is moving their affiliation to WUPA in Atlanta, making it an O&O.1 point

If my addition is right, I think this gives KDFW a weekday news amount of 11½ hours (not counting The Ten, their recent 10am addition helmed by some of their newsfolks, but definitely not a newscast; and not counting their overnight news repeat).1 point

Since most translators are owned by local entities in remote locations like Glendive, I would imagine either Dawson County or the city of Glendive would apply to set up a local translator to relay the stations from Billings. This is the first time in recent memory that a station going away like KXGN wipes out an entire DMA. But given the diminished state of broadcasting as a whole, KXGN may be the only station left even as a member of Montana PBS. Being a future non-comm certainly derails the possibility of even attempting to relay any commercial television station from Billings without a new licensee shacking up on KXGN and/or KYUS's spectrum.1 point

Not the first time that it’s happened. Mike Marza was solo the first 1/2 hour a few times too. Not sure where she lives but seems like Shirleen was delayed because of last nights weather1 point

Seems like he bounces around a lot. He only stays at most jobs 3-4 years, so he was due to leave again. I think GMA3 would work better if it was on at 9AM, but that would likely bump LIVE to 10AM on the east coast, but would create a problem in the other time zones unless THE VIEW and LOCAL NEWS also get bumped back an hour.1 point

It sucks for Demarco as he was really enthusiastic --brought to tears even -- when he got the job. But in all fairness this program was unstable from its iteration so he had to have seen this revamp was a possibility. Seems he can land jobs easily so he'll probably be fine. Compared to Good Afternoon America, and The Chew, ABC has really tried with the 3rd hour of GMA. Surprisingly the show hasn't been cancelled yet.1 point

Correction: Both networks are also being added to additional Gray stations. Between Scripps and Gray, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Colorado Springs and Tucson are the only markets with new 365BLK and Defy affiliates where both groups overlap.1 point

I suspect that such will be the case if the deal otherwise cannot go ahead. They probably designed the deal with potential "out" options. Grand Junction, Lafayette and Twin Falls have no concerns. KKTV could also go to 30.2 for better coverage in Pueblo as well.1 point
-
A loophole in Colorado Springs. Scripps has K30JM-D, a longtime translator of KOAA. Even past branding has branded them as 5/30. Scripps could sell off/shut down KOAA itself and use KKTV to rebroadcast "NBC 5" as a subchannel. The only hitch would have to be converting "30" to a Class A station if it isn't already. Then a duopoly is perfectly legal since "30" is low-powered and not subject to FCC regulations.1 point

KKTV has a newer building...with a Gray logo sign out front. I'm really not eager for one of KOAA or KKTV to be gutted...1 point

Eva Pilgrim got the job. She obviously left ABC after they reworked GMA3 and started using regular GMA hosts. They've been running promos welcoming him to the team, including one with Jessica Moore. Seemed odd, I haven't seen that sort of welcome on other stations.1 point

Spectrum, at most, will get ad inserts in the ad breaks that they can sell. The "rumor" is they get around $0.14 per sub per month, so at 35 mil homes Herring is snapping $5 mil per month for retrans. They had ~14K viewers in any given minute during a Nielsen test in 2019 but they aren't paying to track them.1 point

He always leaving something, he can never stay somewhere a long time dammit Demarco. You got a network job very few journalists get a network job and you leave it, if I was him I would’ve stayed.1 point

Sure enough this new market 7 newsroom is hiring MSK's (MMJ's)! I was surprised to see a multimedia journalist posting for WAGA Fox 5 as-well. The days of top 10 markets being a relief from one man banding are slowing fading away.1 point

It's an outdated rule that the FCC should get rid of Sinclair shouldn't have paid a fine in my opinion. But they got it down from $3 million I read last fall for the Hot Wheels ad.1 point

Good for her. I remember her locally for her stop at WPVI and always thought she was good at ABC. With the flux in the current GMA lineup this is probably a more visible and steady gig. I don’t care for the show, but respect her choice.1 point

It totally makes sense now, it's been odd that they've been going about with GMA3 at the new studio without mentioning anything about Eva or Demarco. If you don't keep track of what's been reported on the New York Post, you think they were simply erased from the third hour altogether. My commentary on Demarco and Eva, they had tough shoes to fill replacing Amy and TJ, who had crazy electric chemistry, which made for good television. Looks like ABC News is going with a panel format for that hour (which is a much more flexible, safer alternative), or is just keeping the hour warm until they get a big talent to host the slot.1 point

Quick minor correction that Enlace is cable/pay distributed so it's unlikely they'll lose any carriage based on that. However, Spectrum did dump most of the TBN suite several years back outside Original Recipe TBN and Enlace, so they'd need to restore that coverage. Even the channel finder they have outside the main TBN stations and must-carry coverage, is just a whole lot of 'request it' links to a boilerplate form. There are also some low-powers which carry Enlace as a .1 without any English services, so they haven't lost all of their OTA coverage. But with two weeks to go until launch, not a great sign regarding network carriage.1 point

Using the intro and transitions helps a ton though, hopefully the weather graphics will change in the coming weeks.1 point

I just went to the Action News Jax website to watch the livestream, and yes indeed, they have the new graphics. The font looks like it is Calibre, which Portugal's public broadcaster RTP uses in the logos of its channels.1 point

For being new graphics in 2024? Woof. They're pretty bad. That aside, the font is going after the FOX5 audience, the cold open banner reeks of GrayONE.1 point

Looks like they listened to you! At the start of the 6pm newscast, Jorge and Linda's names were in the L3 without "Action News" at all! Really like the new info graphics actually, like below, the transitions to them are nice to, the space in white is preceded by a light blue box beside the topic picture. Observations. For the 4pm tease, they did not have the black box, but simply just the headline in the white/gray box, not half in half. The picture I quoted from myself was at 5pm, and they done this again at 6pm with the headline "Mayor controversy", Mayor in the white, Controversy in the black.1 point

Another observation I just made. When we're getting the dual-anchor shot with the lower third, get rid of "Action News" underneath each of their names. It's redundant. I'll chalk this one up to first-day teething problems.1 point

You spoke too soon! Scratch this y'all. No new intro. No new transitions. It's just a lower thirds update. Though there is an update to the teaser lower thirds, though those now make you think you're watching Atlanta News First...... Though funny enough, right before they done a quick live shot of the Falcon's manager's press conference they did have a new Falcon's transition, maybe this is just the first half of the launch and there will be new transitions based off that Falcons transition???? Here is the updated Double Box shot, there is also a new OTS graphic, as well as a new, cleaner version of that weird map graphic that they have used in some form for around 10 years, which is below as well.1 point

Looks like WSB and/or Coxpollo hired the same company that did the ABC O&O package and WINK's new graphics. The similarities are all there.1 point

Cable is linear... Do you mean Broadcast vs Cable? You compare Linear to OTT. You compare FAST to SSS.1 point
