Mike Jerrick is getting his own late night talk show. It starts Sept. 8 on Fox29. https://www.phillyvoice.com/mike-jerrick-late-night-show-fox29-good-day-philadelphia/3 points

It's amazing anyone at the station thinks blatantly copying WNT's ridiculously long opening and aesthetics, right down to Louis imitating David Muir's delivery, is a good idea. Someone actually signed off on this.2 points

Her personal business is not our business. She deserves her privacy. That's between her and her employer. I'm assuming you have never lost a close relative like a spouse, sibling or parent. The time to heal varies person by person and the relationship with the deceased. With small kids, I can imagine it's even more complicated. I hope she is getting the compassion and support she needs from family, friends and colleagues. It's not any of our business. I hope when you need it, you have an employer that is patient and supportive as you go through all the different stages of grieving.2 points

I had my first experience with one of Nester's station + apps today while trying to watch the funeral of Judge Frank Caprio (Caught in Providence) this morning on the WPRI+ app via Apple TV. One word: disaster. The stream started and then for a time got that blasted circle came on as the picture froze like it was trying to download - yet there were no internet issues. Then at one point a set of automated ads kicked in. WTF? Finally it streamed most of the service and near the end the blasted ads showed up and the beginning of some useless restaurant show. Someone must have caught it and it went back to the funeral feed. Fine and then all of a sudden, more ads and the whole funeral began to be repeated. I'm sorry but I give Nexstar and WPRI (which controls CBS, CW, Fox and more in the market) an F. Not a positive streaming experience to say the least. What is scary, this company wants to control all tv stations in most markets. Yikes.1 point

they aren't digging, NBC staffers are leaking because they didn't want Tom taking over, as if they should be allowed any say. As far back as his WTVJ days Tom had reputation for not putting up with lazy, mediocre people who phone it in. In those days, some these people would come to me at sfltv with "tips" to try and damage him by giving me "tips". So the story from college was known to me, which means it was known for a long, long time to people he worked with. As these "tipsters" came to me sometimes I'd ask the late WTVJ anchor Joel Connable about it and he told me, multiple times, Tom is ambitious, great reporter, who works hard and wants to earn his way up but he has no tolerance for mediocrity or behind the camera politics, so some of these people would tie themselves up into a knot if Tom dared to criticise. It was bad enough at times that Joel told me multiple times, unprompted, he'd had to step in and defend Tom from some of these scrags trying to undermine him with station management, sometimes inventing stories about Tom what he said or did, that never happened. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the same people are involved now. If my database on sfltv.com hasn't eaten the comments, there was a back and forth in the comments of one post between WTVJ staffers regarding Tom and since I didn't censor people, names were dropped about the situation.1 point

The forthcoming tragedy in Cleveland is when WKYC is integrated into WJW. WJW has lived off the fumes of Tribune since 2019 with the set and graphics they were gifted at the last minute, and still exist today. Yes, they have all of the typical Nexstar garbage like "Remarkable Women" and "Your Local Election Headquarters" but they never got fully Nex-star-red. Other markets like Indianapolis have already shed their Tribune-ness, and even went through different generations of the Nexstar looks (WXIN) since the Nexstar merger. And it's still hard to believe WISH is still going with ANOTHER active Nexstar look! Hopefully it's not something boring like "Ozarks News First" which repurposes the ABC package on CBS, FOX AND their MyNetwork stations. Only difference is the station logo bug slapped on it.1 point

Will WCCB still be carried on YTTV when they go independent? The irony in all of this was that YTTV DROPPED WMYT after Nexstar took it over, because they didn't carry MyNetworkTV affiliates at the time (since it was a prior FOX O&O). Bahakel happened to have carriage when carrying CW affiliates was not as prevalent as it is now. And it was Nexstar that later changed it's tune to carry stations like WMYT across the country. Acquiring the CW was what led many of their former CW affiliates-now CW O&Os getting on the service.1 point

I said the same thing, I also think there another reason why there digging all this up against him I think it has to do with the history making achievement of his role but I digress.1 point

America's first all-Black radio station... iHeart-owned Urban oldies and classic soul station 1070 WDIA Memphis. They're featured on the CBS Evening News as well as its longtime host of 42 years, Bev Johnson. And yes, its CBS Sports' James Brown with this Eye on America feature:1 point

Well, it's SOP for a network run by ESPN showing on the bottom line scores & news from other sports. They do the same with ACC Network & ESPNU.1 point

I had the same thought. I can see Nightly News move to 3A… or NBC News Now spread out a bit. what shows use the 4th floor studio these days??1 point

Does anyone know what will happen to all the MSNBC sets currently in use at 30 ROCK? Hopefully WNBC can expand into one of the sets. Currently their shoe box set is mildly underwhelming.1 point

General inertia in Cleveland has kept WKYC as the runner-up to WJW because it's not like WEWS is any better. Nor has WOIO-WUAB ever had sustained ratings traction. That being said, I can't wait to see Nexstar use data showing WKYC at dead last and justifying the failed station waiver. It doesn't even need to be true!1 point

The L3's look odd as it's slanted on only one side. Imo it would look better with a slope on both.1 point

Total rant here: the cognitive dissonance of TV news consultants telling anchors, reporters, producers, and writers (correctly) to write conversationally like you’re talking with a friend… But also, here’s the shining example of how you should write, which is an ABC World News Tonight cold open filled with dropped linking verbs, excessive false present tense, reversed sentences that sound like Yoda in Star Wars, and clunky urgency phrases like, “as we come on the air tonight” really is infuriating. And that Local 10 World News cold open does all of those things. It’s like they asked ChatGPT to replicate WNT.1 point

Sinclair's diginets are crap. If anything, the "real estate" will be sold and the buyer will totally reprogram them to something useful.1 point
-
It also never got a chance to fly, so to speak. One anchor suffers a catastrophic injury, the other has personal issues of her own emerge. Not faulting ABC for swinging back to Charlie, but there was relatively (in viewer habit terms) little time to prove the concept.1 point
-
Sinclair buys COX there only buy they can make in my opinion otherwise they'll be sold by someone else in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if they have to sell the diginets as well.1 point

Gee, the changeover from Jennings couldn’t possibly have been a longer-term factor.1 point

This is essentially what ABC was planning to do with Woodruff & Vargas 20 years ago. Rarely were they supposed to be in-studio together, but instead have one on assignment much of the time.1 point

It boggles my mind why people — especially local anchors — continue accepting anchor jobs at CBS Evening News or CBS Mornings. I’m sure the pay bump and higher profile is nice but there’s zero stability on those shows.. unless you’re Gayle King.1 point

In other news, Sinclair is buying more of their "sidecar" stations, buying WXBU and WWMB from Armstrong Williams, WUTB from Deerfield and KMTR from Roberts Media.1 point

Sinclair is off-loading the NewsOn app to Zeam... https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/zeam-acquires-newson-local-tv-streaming-sinclair-1236487505/ https://tvnewscheck.com/journalism/article/zeam-acquires-newson-from-sinclair/1 point

Sinclair is dumber than Nexstar. First Stirr...now NewsOn? I really hope some two bit private equity firm buys Sinclair simply to drive them out of business entirely.1 point

They clearly were unsuccessful with that plan, which puts a lot of doubt on the entire station group. The reduced valuation of their stations is partly their own doing.1 point

I don't know where else to put it so it goes here... KHON's Joe Moore, his son Bryce (also working at KHON), and... Pat Sajak. All together for one final play as it wraps up a 24-year run.1 point

Sounds like it could be a Hearst in reverse.... Cox has been one of the better companies until it was gutted by private equity. Hearst's origins go back to William Randolph Hearst and his "yellow journalism" and today it's one one the more respected groups out there putting out good journalism.1 point

I feel sorry for those that lost their jobs over at WZZM and being hub out I saw it coming since TEGNA started to do it at the end of 2024 and also putting the for sale sign as well.1 point

NASCAR -- one of the few remaining properties to have used the 2015 graphics -- has a new look. Given NBC Sports was the producer of Amazon's NASCAR coverage earlier, the new graphics are largely a variant of them with different fonts (although the Prime version, aside from the use of the bold italic font from the TNF graphics, actually looks more NBC-ish by using the fonts from the Sunday Night Football/CFB graphics) https://x.com/TVSportsUpdates/status/1952084514001314079 https://x.com/TVSportsUpdates/status/19520941041979555981 point

Watching dayside NewsNation and it's getting to be very clear that they barely ever need the studio or even a mic, because their anchors never get to appear on screen unless they're just handing off to the pundit to blather on, and usually it's in a quad box to add insult to injury while the same video loops over and over for ten minutes. It's absurd; LiveNow and Local News Now do a much better job showing off their talent during their shows, and I couldn't name one of those folks in a lineup. They'll only show the talent on this channel that they overpaid for to get ratings that are much worse than the edited movies WGN America they showed in primetime a decade back. Sorry Markie, Marnie and Nichole (not sorry to any of the talent that saw the writing on the wall two years back and fled). This network outside of primetime can literally be handled by their local stations, and it's no wonder to see why cable providers really don't want to have to carry it in order to carry a local Nexstar station. They'd be better off just airing various WGN, WPIX and KTLA newscasts and probably get better ratings for it to boot.1 point

I just wanted to say thank you to the admins, moderators, and users for all the wonderful updates, videos, and photos that debut each Gray TV station's new graphics. I've been here from the start of the GrayOne thread. Also, to the few who know what and when each one will debut, thanks for keeping it secret. I like the suspense and surprise. I still despise the red theme (Richmond, Atlanta, etc.,) but the others are fantastic. Thanks again for all the updates!1 point

The last thing they (we) need is another 'personality'- based show. They should keep the opinions to a minimum and focus on news. It's bad enough they have given a de facto contributor/host spot to O'Reilly. I'll take UFO coverage any day over seeing more of him (and the like).1 point

They lost some of their studio lighting? (Watch this video and you'll understand. That's a ridiculous number of lighted panels and surfaces.)1 point
