The last time they did a talent open was for the Giant Octopus designed graphics package (2012-2016) those were another set of amazing graphics for WABC at the time. When they switched to their preceding graphics package, they stopped doing the talent intros for the weekday 11 pm broadcasts, I guess they need more airtime to deliver more stories in the 35 min window. But I believe on the weekends they do the talent opens as those broadcasts are longer. Those graphics were quite stunning at the time. And honestly they could still work today. Obviously what they have now is better but at the time those were pretty nice! I love that WABC still uses beauty shots and talent opens and not just bumper talent montages. I wish more stations still did. MediaZone4K 2172
As we ponder what happens with the anchor musical chairs, Disney just posted a WABC anchor reporter opening on LinkedIn. I know some jobs technically have to post an open position --- even if they're hiring internally. It could also mean they're hiring from the outside, most likely for the weekend morning slot. My hypothesis is that she may land at PIX11 on the weekends as there has been a few freelancers filling in within the past few months. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11653-wabc-7-eyewitness-news/page/163/#findComment-304919 Share on other sites
Geoffrey 860
What is the purpose of the "LIVE" box rotating with "BREAKING NEWS" when "BREAKING NEWS" is already on the lower-third? 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11653-wabc-7-eyewitness-news/page/163/#findComment-304987 Share on other sites
MorningNews 1448
It’s hardly the point of this evening’s breaking news but WABC’s new location is proving to be a prime vantage point for this story. Mike Marza has been reporting from the outside deck with the crash site in the water behind him. 3 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11653-wabc-7-eyewitness-news/page/163/#findComment-304988 Share on other sites

It reminded me of when Tom Brokaw anchored Nightly News from the roof of 30 Rock on 9/11. An alternative idea would've been to field anchor with one of the primary news cast anchors on the roof for the duration of the newscast. 2 hours ago, Geoffrey said: What is the purpose of the "LIVE" box rotating with "BREAKING NEWS" when "BREAKING NEWS" is already on the lower-third? Dave Lampstein 106
Maybe it was designed by a designer thinking it could be up when a lower third is not… but it’s rare to not have a lower third up during a breaking news event. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11653-wabc-7-eyewitness-news/page/163/#findComment-304992 Share on other sites
WABC7NYFan 6
Not sure what happened, but the 11pm newscast for April 8th is entirely the sports scores that they insert for streaming after broadcast. https://abc7ny.com/videoClip/16147210/ Does anyone here work at WABC7, and if so can this be fixed? I like to re-watch if I miss something, and Mike's excitement before Sports, where he seemed to throw his pen(?) was fun to watch the other night. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11653-wabc-7-eyewitness-news/page/163/#findComment-304995 Share on other sites

TVNewsLover 779
Interesting fill-ins this weekend. After anchoring the 11pm Friday night, Mike filled in for Pedro on Saturday morning next to Toni Yates (in for Michelle), with Jeff doing weather for Dani. Jeff also did the weather Saturday night. On Sunday, Pedro was in for himself, next to Toni (in for Michelle), with Brittaney handling weather for Dani. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11653-wabc-7-eyewitness-news/page/163/#findComment-305028 Share on other sites
TVNewsLover 779
Pedro did the first 15-20 minutes of the 10am from the newsroom (?), mentioning that he would join Shirleen and Brittany downstairs. At noon, the opening was skipped, there was no music, and newscast began with David teasing the top stories. He clearly was sick (as could be heard via his raspy voice) and was anchoring solo. Sounds like technical difficulties today and staff shortages. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11653-wabc-7-eyewitness-news/page/163/#findComment-305038 Share on other sites
