The conditions that existed 40-plus years ago exist no more. WWOR-TV technically is a UHF station now, and has been since 6/12/2009. And the Secaucus studio is long gone.

The FCC doesn't regulate content or anything else for that matter anymore, thus why they didn't apply pressure on Fox when WWOR first replaced its traditional newscast with Chasing New Jersey/Chasing News and why they did nothing when that show went away altogether in spite of protest by New Jersey electeds.

Though it doesn't matter much in this era, it's about time to return WWOR's license back to New York City proper. And let Fox rebrand it to "Fox 5 Plus". I'd like to see it happen

Except the condition of license, per the NJ Congressional delegation, was not removed, despite the move to UHF for digital TV.  Sadly, NJ still is limited in tv news coverage with Fox in violation of that condition. That is for lawyers to argue, not us.  When their license is up again, watch for some noise from NJ's Congressional delegation and other groups.  Sadly, I see Ch. 9 as a waste of airspace today.  Full of Family Feud reruns and judge shows, plus NBCU content that MyTV broadcasts and can be found elsewhere.  Lots of other choices that are more interesting.

Agreed. Other than ad revenue there's no reason for MY 9 to still be on the air. It hasn't been worth watching since UPN went defunct.

When first learning about the industry, I was surprised New Jersey doesn't have it's own DMA.

But again, Jersey is well covered by New York and Philadelphia stations. For those who can still afford cable there's News 12 --assuming they still do a good job.

Likewise, due to the state's geographic and cultural proximity to both cities, is a dedicated DMA necessary?

Perhaps any New Jerseyans here feel differently?

FOX5 updated its screen art, and it looks really nice.

(only Good Day and The Noon)

That monitor on the noon is a few pixels away from being forced to air a Sinclair must-run with Boris Epshteyn.

In an ironic twist, Teresa Priolo won the NY Emmy for news anchor, even though she never officially had the job and was replaced. She told me that they are able to submit their own tapes, and she did. She wasn't even at the awards ceremony. Maybe it gets her an anchor job at another station where they have more brains.

I got news for you: local Emmys have ZERO weight on someone's employment. The idea that someone wins a trophy because a producer in Kansas City thinks someone is a great anchor in a market like New York City is pretty wild in the first place.

Did not realize that they vote in markets other than their own. But you're right, it seems like almost everyone gets one. Still, seems kind of ironic that someone who never officially got the anchor position won the award.

Chris (Welch)  turned up on NY1 this week, as a street reporter.

That seems like a major step down. I wonder what he did to get the boot and have to settle for something like that?

Lisette Nunez has left the station. Hayley Fixler (most recently in NC) seems to be her replacement. They look fairly similar, at least at a glance. In fact, I was wondering if Lisette had not actually left when I saw Hayley doing a story.

Update -- Lisette ended up at the ABC station in Chicago. Seems like she has family there.

So basically, she was perfect for that show.

Not sure why Rosanna Scotto needs to be a panelist on the Fox News show The Five today.
She made a notable mistake in U.S. history

So Rosanna isn't even trying to hold up the guise of an objective journalist....not that she's good at hiding her opinions anyway.

But from her days with Greg Kelly it was very obvious -- even though not explicitly stated -- that they were Trump supporters. Thats fine for FNC but not for the local broadcasts which already live in the shadow of the "Mother Ship's" bias.

I really gotta say… While I have NOTHING against Curt Menefee, taking time to watch GDNY this week Dan Bowens is really a breath of fresh air with Rosanna. I know it probably won’t happen but seeing Dan paired for the main show permanently might be a really good thing for the show.

Wasn't she always friends with Trump?

As for the rest of the folks at Fox5, I noticed last week that Natasha and Bianca were going after LA mayor Bass after the Post reported that she had rejected the help from NYC firefighters. The Post article was updated to say that she denied that happened (maybe even before it was discussed on the broadcast), but I doubt that was ever reported on the air.

Yes, they were friends with Trump.

I noted in the LA fires thread that former GDNY anchor Jen Lahmers what's doing the same with her co-host on GDLA.

The vitriol against bass seems to be coming from all angles.

How does GDNY perform in the ratings? WNYW has the weakest need operation in the city. If effort was much of an indication, it seems like Fox is just keeping the lights on over there.

I'm curious to see the current numbers as well.

PIX 11 was once firmly in that weak spot but has certainly improved from 10 years ago.

I also find it interesting that WNYW has the least reporters of the competition. All the other broadcast stations have around 20, Fox 5 has about 11.
