I finally updated my blog with a few promos and the montage:

Montage of tonight's broadcast:

I think the new look is a big, big improvement over the previous design. It seems to have detail the old look lacked. I also love that the HD mentions are gone (except for the close, and that can be quickly fixed).

My only complaints:

1. The social media displays in the bug are too much. Maybe they could get rid of the Twitter and Facebook icons spinning and appearing solo to cut back on all the distracting motion.

2. The "live" and upper-left courtesy graphics is once again incredibly plain. It's as if it was an afterthought. The way it looked with the 2007 HD design was really nice. I'd like to see them go back to the drawing board on this and come up with something that actually matches. (No, please don't stick a plain CBS eye there again and call it finished.)

3. The way days six and seven are still stacked in the seven-day. If they want to do seven days, then do seven days. The "Plus 2" is long gone. It doesn't make sense.

4. The logo on the WCBS desk still matches nothing. The studio debuted October 2011 and featured the CBS 2 logo without the HD (which was still being used everywhere else on air) but inside a box. Now the HD is dropped from the on-air logo but this box still exists. It's almost like they designed the graphic for the desk to match a graphics package that never happened. (The previous desk continued to use the pre-HD logo for more than four years after they dropped it everywhere else on air.)

BREAKING: KCBS debuted the new GFX!! Missed the open, but waiting for some music to play. Pat and Paul are anchoring, as always with awards nights....get to see new WX GFX now!!

11:38pm update: Just heard the bumper, no new music to hear yet.

I've always wanted to know why CBS didn't develop separate opens for their CW stations (like WPSG and WPCW). They went to the trouble of putting WPSG's callsign under the CBS3 EWN logo, but it still says "KYW PHILADELPHIA" at the very start of the open. Is it that difficult to change it to "WPSG PHILADELPHIA"?

I would just simply place ALL newscasts under the CBS3 EWN brand. Agreed, that is quite odd... almost like CBS didn't want to bother after they took a bit of time to bother.

I don't...really like the opening music. It fits it fine there at the very end, but at the beginning? Oh no. It feels as if it needs something more driving and powerful, rather than a few monotone eighth notes.

As for those social media bugs, yeah, I totally agree with you all, BUT, at least they aren't as annoying as Scripps's that has a full box that's permanently attached to their L3's with big text with their social media sites slowly scrolling towards you. However, after you mentioned it, all I want to do now is look at their, (WCBS's), bug. Their previous "live" bug was better than this current one, too.

The weather graphics are once again very plain, if not more so, especially their full screen graphics...just like Look F. Although, while their seven day forecast is also plain, something about it looks really nice to me too.

Why, WHY, did they bring back, "You've been watching CBS 2 News...in high definition,"?! It's almost October 2013, meaning that there are only about three months until 2014, WHY are you still telling us that we're watching your newscast in high definition as if it's 2007 or 8 and you've just launched in it? Good Lord, if I lived in NYC, I almost wouldn't watch WCBS for that SOLE reason. Didn't they eventually stop doing that? So why the hell did they bring it back? Is it supposed to be some "trademark" of the station, that they always tell us their news is in HD? It's purely ridiculous.

Overall though, while it is a vast improvement to what they did have, at the same time some elements are still very plain.

I think that "slogan" at the end of WCBS' newscast is like a trademark. Heck its The Eye's flagship.

To SANewsGuy, the old GFX and music made CBS look like its #2 again. It looks like a mess. The new GFX is a sight for sore eyes. No ear bleeding on my end in Philly. (wonder if 3's midday newsmagazine "talkPHILLY" got the GFX?)

Talk Philly used the new graphics for the news portion, but had their regular Talk Philly graphics for the rest of the show. Interestingly, they used the old news music for the news part though. They have the Talk Philly music for the rest of the show.

I really like the new GFX; it's miles ahead of the 2010 junk. The new Enforcer cuts are also very good; makes me wish WGCL was an O&O.

That being said, I have to agree with many posters here, the social media tags are quite annoying. Also, at least at WCBS, there are too many logos; to box or not to box is the question? Finally, although I can see the Look F inspiration, I think that the GFX does just enough to stand out on its own; combine that with the music, and I think CBS may have a winner on its hands.

I haven't quite seen enough of the look to make a final verdict, but from what I've seen, this may be one of the best standardized GFX packages made in a long time!

I don't think KDKA will pick up these graphics until they get a new set because the set is due for an upgrade, and the graphics don't match the set.

The only part about this package I can't stand is the music. It sounds like nails on a chalkboard. I like Enforcer, just not this version of it.

So one of the big questions is whether WJZ will keep or bag Chrome Cues... if they get this GFX.

Surprisingly, the cut of Chroma Cues that WJZ uses for opens actually fits here; there are no timing or pacing issues whatsoever. The thing is, it would sound incredibly cheesy on air with this GFX. Think about it, there's this "uber-sax" jazz-like 1980s news music package playing over a vaguely futuristic 3D open that reminds some of the joy that is Look F. Notice where the problems may begin? Or am I the only one?

13's had that theme since their "We'll See You Through" era and they're doing a good job keeping that theme for that long. New GFX or no new GFX., they might keep that theme on for decades. (Their previous theme before the current --YES--CURRENT!--theme lasted for half a decade!)

For WCBS, reporters L3's with one name have "[t]CBSNEWYORK" on every thing except for live shots and weather. And speaking of weather, they changed their radar name from "TITAN" to "VORTEX". Weather anchors Lonnie Quinn and John Elliot received "titles"; Lonnie is now "CBS 2 Chief Weathercaster" and John is now "CBS 2 Meteorologist".

Positive: Smooth, cleaner the graphics look similar to jcbD's work.

Negative: Social bug issues, and the 7 day forecast, make the 7 days equal size or go back to 5 days (I'm looking at you too, WABC).

Will CBS2 Chicago get the new graphics? I don't see them using it and I did not get a chance to watch their newscasts.

Another thing is that the Arial font is nowhere to be found when I looked at WCBS and KYW's news graphics.
