WFXT new graphics

Aside from the ugly fonts that seem more at home with the old Raycom graphics than anything, the graphics themselves are good.

But that logo has to go; why did WHBQ get spared from this monstrosity? At least they still sort of look O&O-ish while still looking independent.

Well, it seems like the folks over at Cox 25 are having a "Gap moment". If Cox actually *listens* to it's viewers (which they may or may not) and decides to switch back to the old logo, it won't be that hard.

I took the liberty of photoshopping the old logo on the L3, fits in perfectly.

Now THAT'S what they should've done in the first place, not tack on something that could be easily replicated in Microsoft Powerpoint in about 5 minutes time.

That has to be the worst logo in nation right now! There is so much wrong with it I can't even start on what is wrong with it.... Wait I can... THE WHOLE THING... Burn it with heavy amounts of fire and holy water!

There are worse logos, but for the market size this is inexcusable. The real problem here is poor typeface choice.

It's so bad I'm exploring doing a redo of WFXT. Until this week Oklahoma City was the largest market where I had done any concepts. But now...

The graphics itself is fine and I don't think you need to go apocalyptic over the station under their new ownership.

That being said, that logo needs to be killed with fire. That's just embarrassing and makes the garbage logos Sinclair has made look like art.

What a mistake. This is a mistake. I can't believe that is a logo for a station in market #7. It's like they couldn't model the Fox logo so they typed out the word "FOX" in Helvetica and called it a day.

Eh, graphics are from WFTV and music is Impact so I don't mind.

Actually, Boston is market #8 now since DC overtook them in the latest Nielsen DMA rankings, but still in the top 10... WFXT's new logo is just plain awful. Even WBIN's general and news logo is better than WFXT's.

And WBIN's news studios (aka NH1) is many more miles north from Dedham based in Concord. The logo is great, while most of the graphics were from Giant Octopus. It appears they have changed it to more 3D and more in house, which has gone a tad bit tacky, but better than what the market is getting out of WFXT.

The crawl is a joke. I don't know about the O&Os, if they are now only outputting 16:9, but not too long after the CMG raid, they output everything in 16:9. The crawl is cutoff on any set that isn't a 1080 or greater. You can see the text about 90%, but it looks tacky for a Top 8 station. Jeez, is the Fox News Channel broadcasting at 1080p and the graphics are designed for 720p to meet the analog widescreen or a set that is 720 too?

The new management has zero remorse of their errors because it appears the people who don't work for the station have more sense than the sockpuppets that work for the station.

Gee, I think I hear an "I told you so" coming.

WBNS' from 1993 is far worse:

Not for local programming. If you receive the station in SD, you got 4:3. I can't speak to the rest of the O&Os, and cable systems, but right after the trade, WFXT's local programming outside of network schedules was letterboxed.

It's pretty insane that CMG has not gotten off the FTS grid a year later. They spent more time trying to De-Fox 25, the logistics was the last priority. The earlier comment of Cox 25 I think just fits their identity perfectly.

(Without being called out for derailing this subject... to put this into perspective, the Sunbeam acquisition of WHDH 22 years ago was announced in April, deal closed by the summer - or even later that time, but the 7 News format went live on November 1st of that year. It was a sudden switch, but they had owned the station for a few months before. IIRC at the same time they also spent more resources in upgrading the infrastructure while they were implementing the news format. Their RCA studio cameras were about 15 years old and they were lucky to put them on first gen Autocam peds. Boy was those monster sized robots!)

I think the FTS to CMG transition has been worse than say the New England Television to Sunbeam transition in terms of news format, graphics etc.

There was something about the "Tomato 10" strangely fit with WBNS and the 90's. WBNS was trying to stand out with that logo and Columbus was weird as hell.

>>>RANT BUTTON ON<<<

The WFXT logo looks so low ranked for the station and the market itself... BOSTON IS A TOP 10 MARKET! Let's be honest does THAT LOGO look like a top 10 market station logo? That logo looks like it belongs in market 158, Not market 8 in the Nation. I know we have knocked Sinclair for crappy logos and it takes a special skill to top them and surpass them by leaps and bounds. Congratulation, Cox you have made the worst logo of 2015!

This logo would be great.....

...in a market below 150.

Not only is it a visual disaster in a top 10 market, but compared to all of the great logos in the Boston market, (especially WGBH and WCVB) it's like putting a payday loan store in a high end shopping mall.

And to think this is now Cox's largest station by market size. If this was based on the extensive research that is a hallmark of Cox's way of doing things, they must either are getting desperate with all of the recycling of elements or they failed miserably with their focus groups.

Probably because WHBQ still is using their O&O set, which has that O&O logo plastered everywhere.
