Sinclair, Tribune Close to Merger Deal

Actually, I've driven by the KFOR facility on Britton Road in Oklahoma City and have seen the construction of the new facility and wrot the personally and they advised me that they should be in the new building by late summer/early fall. Here's a link to the article where it says it would be up by January 1, 2017, but has been delayed - http://kfor.com/2015/12/17/kfor-unveils-new-building-update-at-employee-christmas-luncheon/.

Oh so they didn't run into financial problems but what's causing the delay in the completion of that project? Also has KFOR/KAUT announced a set design as of yet or nah?

The building itself looks nice but they didn't show what the actual news set would be like

It may be a surprise, furthermore, I've been wondering whether the new building will also mean new music and graphics.

I know they got the new graphics (they debuted those either at the end of last year or at the beginning of the year) As for new music that'll depend on who might buy KFOR-KAUT if they maintain their current music that'll tell me that they won't get the new music until after Sinclair, Scripps, or Raycom takes over KFOR-KAUT (which will also involve a new graphics package too) if they debut the new music when they move to the new building look for Meredith or someone who doesn't have a group-wide music package to buy KFOR-KAUT

Also they reverted back to the "Oklahoma's NewsChannel 4" moniker earlier this year after an 8 year absense

Please keep the baseless speculation in the speculation thread.

This thread is getting to the point I'm tempted to lock it, which I may do if the unrational fear of news music changing and wild speculation about who might buy these stations doesn't stop.

It's a long road but hopefully we can get some of you all past "denial" and "anger"...

On the topic is divestiture, Raycom, which is headquartered in Montgomery, AL, has stations in ALL Alabama markets with the exception of Mobile. During the divestiture process, I wonder if Raycom will take a look at WPMI/WJTC as they're on the Alabama side while WEAR/WGFX is on the Florida side.

Ehh... They might although I can't see Sinclair selling WPMI/WJTC, I mean there's no reason why they should (unless they might want to swap it out for something else)

That's for a speculation/Raycom-related thread though

In the meantime, I'll take a break from this particular thread (not the site) so if someone else has something new, post that here

I prefer Homer Simpson's demonstration of the five stages of grief.

How many ID's are you running?

same syntax...

I'm kinda speechless, Eat. Wow.

Someone was trying to bypass the restrictions placed on their account.

Turns out they have a few older accounts too, and one of those was also restricted some time ago.

We all do, man. Preferably Red Bull. It'll give you wings.:p

So what will happen to bigger markets like my hometown, Houston? Or DFW?

But KIAH and KDAF are pretty bad these days.

I just hope and pray Tegna Media buys KDAF and KIAH, because I want to see a duopoly for WFAA and KHOU. IMO, Tegna should have bought

KTXD three years ago.

There is absolutely no reason Sinclair needs to sell KDAF or KIAH. It owns no other stations in those markets, and they give Sinclair visibility in two top 10 cities in one of the biggest red states in the nation. It's no secret that those stations have big problems. Both have potential with time and money. If they're willing to do it, there's no reason to dump two stations that are nestled right in the heart of their base. If Sinclair is forced to divest some stations, there are markets where the buyout presents bigger problems.

Please keep the baseless speculation in the speculation thread.

Will TVNT counselors be made available to us for the Depression stage?

You are totally wrong. Look at the ratings last week for cable news and Fox News is soft since the recent moves by the Murdoch family. Bill O'Reilly isn't tarnished at all and would easily beat out Fox News with the reach WGN America currently has.

Fox News still beats everyone not even close there not flat ratings don't lie Fox is number 1 miles ahead of everyone.

This seems relevant--especially with Sinclair piping news for Scranton and Toledo out of South Bend:

The FCC today released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking proposing to eliminate the main studio rule, which requires each AM, FM and TV station to have a main studio located in or near its local community.

The notice also proposes getting rid of the requirement that the main studio have full-time management and staff present during normal business hours, and the requirement that it be able to originate programming.

Though I bet the ripple effect will be felt across radio more than anything, that would definitely open the door for something akin to News Central on steroids for the smaller stations if budgets get tight.

It is designed moreso for radio than TV. That being said it could allow Sinclair to close up operations in markets where they don't have a news operation and consolidate them somewhere else (Minneapolis/St. Paul, etc.)

In a statement, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said: “Broadcasters have shown that the main studio rule is a continuous cost that keeps them from serving their local communities in meaningful ways, like broadcasting additional local programming. The proceeding we begin today could grant this broadcaster and all others affected by this rule the flexibility to use their limited resources in a way that best serves their communities. Today’s notice is an important step towards bringing the FCC’s media rules into the digital age.”

I don't know how Pai can write that crap with a straight face. It will just allow station groups like Clear Channel/iHeartMedia to consolidate their operations moreso than they already have which allows them to save more money. And as we've seen with radio, the local communities being served are worse off.

I cannot believe we'll have to deal with this idiot for the next 4 years, unless somehow he's forced out, which I doubt.

For radio, that rule has been rather pointless for years now. You look at iHeart, and to a greater extent, EMF (K-Love/Air-1) who have to have these studios they have no intent of using.

Just looking at EMF specifically, they have absolutely no local broadcasting anywhere that I'm aware of. To my knowledge, they operate 100% off the satellite, with a computer doing the local station ID inserts. Even still, I imagine the rule still meant that they have to have a local office somewhere in each city, with what I imagine is the barest excuse for a "studio" they can get by with.
