freelanceproducer 180
CNN announced today that they will launch CNN+ in the first quarter of 2022 with 8-12 hours of original live content each day. They are looking to hire 450 people in the next 6-9 months to support CNN Plus. https://variety.com/2021/digital/news/inside-cnn-plus-a-first-look-at-the-new-streaming-service-exclusive-1235022517/ Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18401-cnn-to-launch-cnn/ Share on other sites
Yankees4life 559
Yes. Because that's exactly what people want. A minimart version of CNN Cablenews is in the gutter for a reason so I have low expectations for CNN+. What am I going to get for a fee that I'm not gonna get for free (ie. Newsy, BBC, Sky, France24, etc) Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18401-cnn-to-launch-cnn/#findComment-262523 Share on other sites

froyo49 230
I wonder if they'll move or at least simulcast Morning Express w/ Robin Meade on it. I don't know why it's still on what is now a true crime channel. If they move it to CNN+, it'll fill a few of the 8-12 hours of live programming they promise, and HLN can finally become the full-time murder porn channel they desperately want to be. MorningNews 1448
IIRC, Morning Express has a pretty sustainable following but I haven’t looked at the numbers in a long time. Honestly didn’t even know Headline News as a network was still around. Drew 149
Wouldn’t be surprised if HLN goes the way of NBCSN and Morning Express becomes a CNN+ flagship show. Forensic files and other shows move over to TruTV or sold to networks like Oxygen and Discovery ID Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18401-cnn-to-launch-cnn/#findComment-262705 Share on other sites

jrogo 196
You guys beat me to it. I assumed CNN's plan was to move MXP to CNN+, they could air the main 4 hours live (til 10A ET) and then air 1 or 2 hours of the "updated" version like HLN use to do with the show pre pandemic. Jennifer Westhoven (covers business), Mesllisa Knowles (covers entertainment) could either host their own shows or contribute to others. HLN recently started new promos celebrating Robin Meade's 20th year anchoring a national morning newscast, touting it's long history and friendly, familiar faces, that could help promote a move to CNN+. One more thing, True Crime Live with Mike Galanos hasn't been on since early last year and Lynn Smith who hosted On The Story left the network and news all together recently after her show was sidelined as well. Could WarnerMedia turn HLN into Turner's designated sports channel (mainly in primetime) now that they have the NHL? Considering HLN is in over 91.1 million households (more than 94.9 percent of pay television subscribers) in the United States, making it the most distributed American subscription network. I'm not saying go full on NBCSN style, but if they are looking for more viewers it's not a bad idea to put it on a channel everyone has. Although leaving it the murder-obsessed channel is it will make them plenty of money. Drew 149
would be a good marketing trick to put NHL on HLN you could watch the N from HLN move across the screen to front and become NHL Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18401-cnn-to-launch-cnn/#findComment-262712 Share on other sites
freelanceproducer 180
My bet is that CNN+ is going to be more inline with Peacock than any other streaming service. I bet we can expect to see a main streaming channel with live content, as well as other channels that will run CNN’s special and docuseries. Then there will be a Netflix like gallery of content. Action Newsroom 1281
Wolf Blitzer will anchor a primetime program titled The Newscast with Wolf Blitzer. According to the network, it will be “hitting the headlines you need to know on this traditional evening news show with a sleek, modern twist. The old-school nostalgic approach featuring original reporting from around the world, investigations, and consumer focused stories that matter help put the latest headlines in perspective.” He will continue anchor The Situation Room on CNN proper. freelanceproducer 180
CNN+ to Launch March 29, 2022 NEW YORK, NY – March 11, 2021 – CNN announced today that CNN+ will debut on March 29, 2022 in the United States. CNN+ will be available for purchase at $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year. Early subscribers that sign up within the first four weeks after March 29 directly with CNN+ will have access to the “Deal of a Lifetime,” or 50% off the monthly plan – for life – as long as they remain subscribers. “March 29 will be an important day in the history of CNN and CNN+ will be a critical part of our future,” said Andrew Morse, CNN EVP, Chief Digital Officer and Head of CNN+. “I am so proud of the work our teams have done to ensure our world class journalism and storytelling comes to life on this new platform. We can’t wait for our subscribers to experience it.” CNN+ was announced in July 2021 as set to debut in Q1 of 2022. The product offers subscribers three types of content: live, on-demand and interactive programming, including a whole new way to engage with CNN’s world class journalism and storytelling. “We’re excited for everyone to experience CNN+ and see what we’ve been working on,” said Alex MacCallum, CNN Worldwide Head of Product and General Manager for CNN+. “We have a really compelling content offering with CNN’s world class journalists and are confident in the product offered at this compelling price.” CNN will have a single CNN app that will offer access to both CNN+ and TVE experiences, with easy navigation between the two. In the single CNN app, CNN+ customers can explore a range of new live, on-demand and interactive content through editorially-curated and personalized experiences that suit their interests. Pay TV customers can also enjoy the TVE experience that they’ve known for years, including access to CNN’s linear TV feeds of CNN, CNN International and HLN as well as a substantial on-demand offering, which will be available exclusively to pay TV customers. The content slate for launch is available on the CNN Press Room. Additional CNN+ shows, talent, content offerings and business updates for 2022 and beyond will be released in the weeks, months and years to come. froyo49 230
CNN+ has announced their schedule. https://cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com/2022/03/24/cnn-plus-daily-weekly-schedule/ Their weekday lineup (eastern time): 7AM: 5 Things w/ Kate Bolduan 8AM: Go There 9AM: Big Picture w/ Sara Sidner 11AM: Reliable Sources Daily 4PM: The Source w/ Kasie Hunt 5PM: The Global Brief w/ Bianca Nobilo 6PM: Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? 7:30PM: The Newscast w/ Wolf Blitzer TVNewser says "During the times in between the programs (and the programs are not full hours), the CNN+ home page and main screen will offer shows that have already aired and are available on demand." Honestly, I don't see anything that catches my eye and worth me paying a monthly fee, especially since the other news organizations have free streams. I'm also disappointed they didn't add Morning Express. I currently watch NBC's "Morning News Now" which essentially has the same format, but not quite the chemistry that Robin Meade and her team have. Maybe if they moved it over I would consider subscribing. It's not exactly doing wonders on HLN anyway. MediaZone4K 2176
Robin Meade deserves more than HLN. Her bubbly personality would probably be better served on a top market local 7am morning show, if not on CNN which probably wants a more political AM newscast. jrogo 196
Honestly with the new President of CNN and his history with creating hard news, I could see them moving Morning Express to CNN, put it on from 6-10, live from Atlanta and make minimal format changes. She’d be a hit, Robin and her 3 co-anchors (Bob Van Dillen, Jennifer Westhoven, Mellisa Knowles) and the rotating sports anchor are all natural morning people and really get along. New Day has seen better days, moving Brianna Keilar to mornings has not gone well and isn’t brining any new viewers. Might as well try something new, simple and reliable. PhillyWatch 239
If/when CNN+ as a subscription service tanks, it would be great to see them move the schedule onto HLN, keeping Morning Express and leaving the Forensic Files reruns in overnights/downtime to pad out the schedule, renaming THAT "CNN+" Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18401-cnn-to-launch-cnn/#findComment-271619 Share on other sites
MediaZone4K 2176
Outside of news junkies, I cannot see the average Joe on the street paying for CNN. CNN is something that you glance at in the doctors office waiting room or the airport, or watch because it's included on your basic cable package. Worse yet, TV CNN's jouurnalistic content isnt even that good. Time will tell if this streaming idea will work. Newsjunkie24 506
I don't see it either with regular people paying for CNN+. For one, Kate Bouldan, Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, and Don Lemon all have shows on the main network, and would Chris Wallace really bring in subscriptions? Add to the fact that the linear CNN will not be streamed on the service doesn't help either. Add to the fact that CNN tends to rank 3rd in cable news ratings, I just don't see it lasting. I bet the library programming would be higher than the news programming. Not to mention, there's already several free options out there for live news. For all those streaming services the primary content is entertainment such as movies, scripted series and documentaries. Documentaries aside, CNN+ is paid news. Viewers can get NBC News Now, the former CBSN, and ABC News Live for free. Or they can look up headline clips on YouTube. Of course average people will pay for streaming, but I doubt (and maybe I'll be proven wrong) speficiallly for CNN.
