Rip Inside the NBA Shaq, Kenny, Ernie, and Charles are an unbreakable duo they could buy the rights of the show and move it to NBC, but Ernie has said he's not leaving TNT since he's been there forever and has done other sports for them. But he could be at NBC and still be with TNT but he doesn't wanna leave I see the other 3 going to NBC but that still wont bring back the magic becasue Ernie is the godfather and the glue to the 4 on inside the NBA so without him it isn't much. That show at times was more entertaining than the games itself, it made people who didn't like basketball they some how made it interesting still. While I hope they bring back Roundball Rick which is the old NBA on NBC theme nothing can compare to those 4 i'll never be the same again.

I thought the new media rights deal was supposed to be announced before the finals were over.  Why is it taking so long?  If the show inside the NBA ends, then it ends.

NBC should buy the rights to the show and air it on USA network.  I think NBC, USA, & peacock will each air some exclusive games.  I don't think they'll leave USA without NBA.   NBC will probably get Sunday night games, USA will get the other prime time game, & peacock will get select games that are probably not in primtime.

Inside the NBA is dead. Chuck said he's retiring after '25 and Ernie said he's not leaving Turner. If NBC can land Shaq and or Kenny then fine but whatever studio show they develop won't be anything close to Inside.

I'm guessing they'll probably have one of their windows named Basketball Night in America.

There's a quote in this article that says the NBA is expected to reject wbd offer.  It's an opinion held by New York Times  Andrew Merchant.  Other articles have stated similiar opinions as well.

NBA hasn't officially rejected the offer, but many assume they will.

It's all just for show.  WBD doesn't have a leg to stand on.  I helped work on a $1.5 billion bid package about fifteen years ago (not for the NBA) and it was rejected because a clueless executive missed signing one section that was required in a part of the proposal.   Our proposal was only within $100,000 of the winning bid.... And we almost sued, but the company lawyers said good luck with that.  I jumped ship and ended up working for the winning company instead, so I guess it worked out for me in the end. 😄

I still remember the story about how WTMJ Radio in Milwaukee lost the rights to produce Badgers content to Learfield because someone at Journal submitted the paperwork late, being overconfident because before the 90s, the UW programs were a national joke and they figured 'we have a long relationship, they'll understand' (the UW Regents did not). They still carried the radio broadcasts, but it was one of the balls that started the inevitable roll towards Learfield/IMG producing anything college and after Journal/Scripps decided not to move the Packers to FM, the team did it for them with iHeart.

WBD had two years to seal this up, and I think the dumping of the Turner Sports brand for that awful long WBD Sports monicker was the start of their doom; they quickly adjusted to TNT Sports, but it isn't Turner Sports. Really, I think it was lost the moment they decided to start throwing game simulcasts on TruTV surrounded by gambling and sports talk dreck; you've got Inside the NBA and Kevin Harlan?! Nobody gives a crap about some random multicast only out there for degenerates and to satisfy 'new content' checkoffs in provider agreements because you can't keep running Impractical Jokers all day and all night. The ESPN multicasts make sense to someone, but the TruTV content never will.

WBD matched the Amazon package so they should get that package since it was in the contract that WBD could match the offer and the NBA couldn't reject it. The NBA needs WBD more than WBD needs the NBA which the Amazon package will be a flop plus they shouldn't get a Conf Final game every other year which should've gone to NBC for the 11 years since there paying more than Amazon. The NBA did WBD wrong, and they have a good case against the NBA in the lawsuit.

The NBA needs WBD?? The NBA is getting $76 billion which, according to Forbes, represents an increase of 160% per season compared to the current contract. So I think the NBA is just fine. Besides, why would the NBA 'need' a partner whose CEO said they "don't need the NBA"?

Plus is not being on TNT a big loss for the NBA? Their new 11-year pack includes two free over-the-air broadcast networks (a first for the league), a cable channel dedicated to sports, and two streamers in Peacock and Amazon. The three partners (Disney, NBCU, and Amazon) will also carve up international markets with Disney using ESPN-branded assets in Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, Oceania, and the Netherlands They will use Disney+ in select markets in Asia and Europe. NBCU will distribute NBA games in several European markets via Sky Sports as well as in the Caribbean and sub-Saharan Africa. Amazon’s Prime Video will distribute NBA games with a package of games in Mexico, Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, the U.K. and Ireland.

I believe it is this international piece which is where the NBA will say WBD didn't truly match the offer. They have been clear that it isn't just a dollar amount, but the overall offering. So this international component may well play a role, along with the additional activations Amazon included in their bid.

Ultimately, I believe it is WBD that needs the NBA. They have cut most of their original programming so the NBA filled many hours on their schedule. Without the NBA, TNT will have a lot of airtime to fill. Will it be cheaper than producing NBA games? Sure. But the ratings will undoubtedly be much smaller. That, in turn, will hurt their ability to charge cable companies a premium for their channel. And NBA advertising dollars will dry up for WBD. So they will lose revenue on two fronts. Therefore, I believe it is WBD that needs the NBA more than the NBA needs WBD.

On the local level, the Portland Trail Blazers are the latest team to leave a regional sports network, as the team and Root Sports terminated their contract with a season left remaining.  The team will announce a TV broadcast home in the coming weeks, especially just as the NBA will announce its team schedules for the upcoming season today (8/15).

https://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/2024/08/trail-blazers-leaving-root-sports-alternative-not-yet-announced.html

Honestly, this could be ripe for Gray Media to snap up Blazers broadcast rights, as they have the KPTV/KPDX duopoly and their continual expansion of going after local sports rights, as they've done in Phoenix with the Suns, as well as recently acquiring the Pelicans TV rights for WVUE, and are entering into a joint venture with Cavaliers ownership to start an over-the-air sports network in Cleveland (and in Cincinnati via a WXIX subchannel) which is launching in the fall, although the Cavs will remain on Bally Sports for the time being.

Who will be the host of the NBA on NBC pregame, half-time,  & post-game show?  I hope Hannah Storm will be part of the coverage.  She did a great job back then when NBC had the rights from 1990 - 2002.  The main hosting duties will probably go to Maria Taylor.
