I'll second. We're seeing massive attrition of qualified journalists and an industry bowing to fascistic autocrats, but we want to continue to debate time/temp bugs. People, we have a significant editorial independence crisis on our hands! What the actual f*ck?!7 points

I'd love to see Alan Sealls as a part of this covering South Alabama, but he could probably start one on his own. It would be a great tool for the University of South Alabama to educate and train future meteorologists through their meteorology program which he is a part of.3 points

As this enterprise starts to go into full swing, they've been making announcements on their Facebook page about their meteorologist team additions. And boy, do they have some big hitters coming... Many names you'll recognize as past colleagues with ABC 33/40: Charles Daniel Ashley Brand John Oldshue Bill Murray Drew McCombs3 points

Removing the time/temp just because the news gets rebroadcast would be extremely silly, this has never been an issue in the decades this practice has been happening. The consultants told them to get rid of the time. They made the change to the weekday newscast template, and forgot to change the weekend. Nobody who asked for the change is probably paying attention to the weekend news that closely. Maybe they have noticed, and don't care. I know it's 2025, and everything has to be treated as some grand conspiracy, but sometimes we have to apply Occam's Razor.3 points

It looks like they'll have the Litton block until at least September then (syndicated separately from ABC)...a bit of a surprise, but not entirely unexpected.2 points

In a story that I can't link to, due to the website not allowed to be linked on here, Scripps says that the implementation of the new package will be "aggressive", based on technical considerations... Also they claim that audience feedback has been "beyond expectations"... So we shall see what "aggressive" brings us in the upcoming weeks/months...2 points

That MyNetworkTV was barely ever a thought...they did not even want to entertain the idea of My Local 10, even as late night filler.2 points

it appears YoutubeTV and Hulu don't want to carry independents. Or at least not pay at all or as much as these stations are asking for retrans. No network = no leverage / no appeal for service retention for the provider2 points

It's been the 7th place station there since the beginning of time. And it doesn't help matters to be so close to Detroit, Lima, and even have CBET pumped in from Windsor with some things the CBC carries that NBC carries as well....2 points

WXIA moved into WATL's building after Gannett (TEGNA) acquired the station. Previously, WXIA was located on Peachtree Street, behind WSB-TV. As WXIA outgrew its former space, management decided to relocate to the One Monroe location following the completion of the WATL sale. The new building offers significantly more space, and NBC News also maintains a presence there.2 points

Corporate contingency plan. Likely a playbook written years ago, and refined with lessons learned from Hurricane Harvey flooding KHOU. Have a few strategic locations with fully functional second control rooms, studios, and a large enough of an operation where they have staff levels to support a sudden, unexpected addition without harming the host station’s product too much. Plus, MSP and ATL are both Delta hubs - so there are frequent flights between both cities to get talent there.2 points

USA is among the channels that will be spun off to Versant. If anything, in my opinion, NBCU should just reconsider keeping Golf Channel and making it into an all sports network.1 point

Julie Dunmire will be the Kazoo reporter; I'm not a fan of the neighborhood reporter this has been an epic failure from Scripps. Fire Adam and get a new CEO Scripps.1 point

KSWO has expanded their weekday morning news to start at 4:30am. However, its NOT Good Morning Texoma. Instead, its a newscast focused on... the military. A half-hour of local, national, and international military news called Good Morning Fort Sill airs from 4:30-5am. The name is based off the Army base Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=122153727062763865&id=615729159667391 point

This all confirms to me that GMA First Look will be the LAST ABC program on WPLG at 4am and the FIRST ABC program on the new ABC Miami at 4:30am. https://wsvn.com/entertainment/a-new-era-abc-miami-debuts-on-aug-4-on-channels-7-2-and-18/?FBWSVN&fbclid=IwY2xjawLxFjxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHnbhHq0hdNF9eXK91DkilKcWMQPDYdJ-A38QlQkVhXBekUWHnxgJxa31wYrU_aem__ItMrJ45l-FQrChHZWQ-5g1 point

Why does Sinclair always seem to get in a snit fit with this one provider? They're literally in the eighth subbasement of ratings in that market and the only valuable thing (it ain't The National Desk) they provide is NBC programming, which...Buckeye can just direct them to Peacock these days and they'd probably be more reliable there. This isn't 2013 and viewers have choices now. SBG should just take whatever they can get and fight battles in markets where their ratings can be tabulated.1 point
-
Well, it's the summer and not much is happening in the stations these days, so this our defacto banter to keep the board and presence alive . Its also a way to speculate future talent changes and lineups, which a lot of us seem to be interested in over the years since the inception of these forums. We used to even have dedicated threads about specific talents which we've long stopped doing.1 point
-
Not the first time these two had a squabble over retransmission fees. Back in December 2013, Buckeye dropped WNWO from its lineups, and the stalemate lasted seven months.1 point
-
I think they'll continue with coverage leading up to the race & honestly, this might be better for them in terms of coverage of the actual Oaks race because I think when it was on USA/Peacock, any races that aired there, was exclusively live to them & WAVE3 aired the races on a slight tape delay.1 point

This isn’t a slam on participants but I don’t understand why certain threads — notably this one and WPVI — seem to be flooded with posts regarding whom is subbing for whom. Maybe because it’s summer the thread is short on content.1 point

My last update on this hopefully for a while… KARE did get a 6:00 show to air from the Telefarm. The newscast opened with Julie Nelson standing under a tent explaining the situation and acknowledged that the newscast would be historic and different, and also said they will be out of the studio for the foreseeable future. Reporters appeared one after the other with the one handheld mic, and all b-roll and interviews/stories ran with whatever editing they were able to do. The commercial breaks were all PSAs, and the only graphics they had on the screen were a couple weather stills that Met Jamie Kagol said were prepared via text by WXIA as he explained the weather (possible severe) while looking at a radar on his phone. All in all, an impressive feat pulled off by everyone at KARE tonight.1 point

Good on Sunbeam to do this. Had a feeling they would after seeing the initial report on this on 7 News & Craig Stevens (whose FB page looks to me like he's kinda a fanboy to ABC with all the posts relating to the switch) stating they'd be doing an ad campaign ahead of the launch of ABC Miami.1 point

not unusual at all, they used to run lower thirds during Deco and daytime programming for upcoming FOX shows. The 10pm newscast teasers that run between 8-10pm also mention the network and the shows. And the 6-6:30pm newscast often features previews for upcoming shows. American Idol was really the big one they pumped constantly1 point

Also, I'll add that WPLG's last 10pm news for WSFL will be Fri., Aug. 1st as they've stopped doing the weekend 10pm for some time there. WSFL already has Morning Rush from Scripps News and that'll go from 8-10am. Two new programs from the streamer will be added, including Today As It Happened at 6pm (hour-long) and The National Report at 11pm (also hour-long). The former of the two will push Inside South Florida, WSFL's only locally-produced show, to 5:30pm.1 point

Yeah, it’s the end of an era indeed. This is exactly how it played out for Bill Beutel in the late 90s until he left the station in 2003. And most of the veteran anchors stayed on the 6 p.m. show till their final days. Bill Ritter, now his replacement from 2003, is now 75, so it’s understandable that he's slowly beginning his departure from the career. Hopefully, he stays till 2030! What a solid anchor and face he has been for WABC.1 point

To the surprise of no one, WCBS kept the same NFL on CBS graphics for 2024, which I would have to think will be the final year they'll be using them. Usually when CBS debut new graphics every few years when they have the Super Bowl, WCBS usually keeps the same graphics for the preseason then switches to the new ones the next season. I imagine it'll be the same scenario for WNYW come next preseason, even if Fox debuts new graphics for SB LIX, which I doubt will happen since their NFL graphics will only be 2 years old come September. Speaking of the Giants switching from WNBC to WNYW, why haven't they posted anything on the internet regarding an announcement? I looked it up and couldn't find anything. Was this announced in private or something?1 point

The Cardinals one is one NFL Network did use briefly in 2021-22 (mainly for the Senior Bowl on NFLN and Super Bowl world feed, which were still using the old, pre-2014 Thursday Night Football graphics; this got replaced by the Exclusive Game Series graphics)1 point
