In DC, Gannett did a number on WUSA long before Tegna was created. Sinclair destroying WJLA after Allbritton made something of them is what brought WUSA back up a few pegs.2 points

WNYT is finally adding an hour of its weekday morning news over on WNYA. It will run from 7-8am starting Sept. 15th. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1164642699043834&id=1000649434317581 point

For the past year and a half or so she's only worked 6-8 am Monday-Wednesday, so they've kinda already went in that direction.1 point

As somebody who lives in the market where Gannett/TEGNA's baby is, it's so strange to me to hear of TEGNA's reputation for butchering stations in other markets.1 point

Former KYTV Springfield, Mo. news anchor Ethan Forhetz, currently V.P. of public engagement for Convoy of Hope, was on FOX Weather recently to talk about the organization's efforts during Katrina, which is now 20 years old. https://www.foxweather.com/watch/fmc-gbdlddvx9utur3sw1 point

Sorry, I missed the party. My phone that I had for so many years died. Anywho if you're wondering about the ratings way back on their first day as an independent check it out. https://www.local10.com/news/local/2025/08/06/wplg-local-10-tops-abc-network-on-first-day-of-independence/1 point

France I just found out today that Anne Sophie-Lapix has left France 2's 20h after 8 years and France Televisions in general due to political pressure from both the left and the right. She is joining M6 for Sunday programs and major news coverage and RTL Radio for a two-hour daily program. https://www.thetimes.com/world/europe/article/anne-sophie-lapix-axed-spats-macron-le-pen-kj3mfbpzv1 point

Congrats are in order to Doug Kammerer for 15 years at WRC-TV. It also brings out an excuse to showcase old clips of the late, great Jim Vance.1 point

In all fairness to you, we all criticize shows etc on this message board that we don't like. Yes, everything is not for everybody but we are all free to point out things about a show that we think are not good. The View sustains an audience which justifies its expansion from a ratings and financial standpoint, but I totally understand your frustration with the show. It devolved from a show about multigenerational women discussing life and current events, to middle-aged women parroting/arguing over one sided political talking points while hiring an outrageous conservative to gang up on. But as others appointed out we are free to not watch.1 point

What’s not to get? The audience for the show likes the show. Not every show is for every person. This isn’t yours? Awesome. But it is for someone else, and that’s what matters.1 point
-
If you read the article, the weekend version will be lighter fare, so there should be no heated arguments. I get it’s not your cup of tea, but the ratings and ad money still make it worth continuing the show.1 point

This is why it scares me to hear CEO Bob Iger talk about Disney getting out of linear television. It seems to be the least worst of the station owners. They deliver a quality newscast with personable talent, and are often number one in a lot of their markets. I would hate to see new ownership quash that.1 point

He also has young kids Marc Brown does I don't think he's leaving anytime soon.1 point

Dallas Raines is actually much older than Marc Brown. Dallas is 70 and Marc is 62.1 point

OK. I thought Marc Brown was going to consider retiring or stepping back with his duties. Now, that I ghink of it, he's still got some active years left before retiring. He's almost 10 years younger than Dallas Raines.1 point

I still dearly miss their previous music.. But great execution of the new package! I guess when I go to LA it will feel like I'm at home with the WABC theme haha.1 point

He merely suggested she be added as co-anchor with Marc. He's not breaking any news.1 point

They aren't bad. They need to use the "correct" track. And com'on now KABC, give the 11PM to Jovana. It's time.1 point
-
Oh cool, I’ll have to check it out. I always wondered why markets 1 and 3 have talent opens but not LA. Separately, I caught the end of the 5:00pm show today and the two shot of the anchors was actually split and Marc Brown was in a different studio. I know COVID numbers are spiking in SoCal - are we back to this for a bit? Have all shows been doing this?1 point

Since last Friday, ABC7 has been using different music that sounds unrelated to the Eyewitness News theme for the 11am closing credits and whatever it is they are using has that LA vibe compared to the WABC closing theme they were originally using for the credits.1 point

Aw what an incredible tribute to Dallas. Really the talent at KABC is such a class act. So cool to see them all on the set. KABC has some top notch talent, to say the least! Dallas is incredible too, hope he stays at least till his 50th anniversary! 10 more years!1 point

I remember when WTVD kept ABC 11 but briefly rebranded to “Channel 11 Eyewitness News” in 2005, but the annocuer still called it ABC11 Eyewitness News but it was brief by the end of 2005 reporters stopped saying that and they returned to “ABC 11 Eyewitness News”. KTRK in 2015 became “ABC 13 Eyewitness News” and after being “13 Eyewitness News” but kept in general ABC13. Here a brief look at “Channel 11 Eyewitness News”.1 point

From 1999-2004 both KABC and WABC had the same verbal news branding until WABC went back to “Channel 7 Eyewitness News”. Till this day I wonder why WABC was ABC7 Eyewitness News from 99-04. KABC until 1996 was “Channel 7 Eyewitness News” in clips I've since from back then I never really heard reporters verbally say it at the end of liveshots. I feel like when KABC became ABC7 Eyewitness News that when I saw reporters saying it during the end of liveshots. WABC from 2000 during “ABC7 Eyewitness News” era does anyone know why they took that brand? WABC has kept that “Eyewitness News” typeface forever now. KABC has changed its font multiple times.1 point

This! The signature at the very beginning does sound similar to the old production theme music they had used for the last 20yrs, though.1 point

I mentioned this position opening in the WPVI thread because Melissa Magee was leaving to come home to LA (I want to think she is a possible candidate, but it wouldn't make sense for the position to appear just as she's leaving), but I really don't understand why Rick isn't a shoo-in for the position, considering how passionate he is for meteorology and how he's been doing the weekday evenings pretty consistently since Stu came onboard. I get that he might not want it either because of other commitments in his private life, but other than that, nothing suggests he doesn't deserve it.1 point

KTLA Morning News was not popular because of Michaela. It already was well before she came and has continued to be so now years after she left. It's the on air team that meshes very well with each other that keeps KTLA on top and that isn't going to change. KTTV is exactly the flip side of KTLA in the morning. KTTV needs to make some major talent moves beyond just Michaela if they ever plan on being competitive in the morning. As for Stu Mundel, most of the car chases in Los Angeles are in the afternoon through very late night. He's now on in the early morning to 2 pm. Those that were use to him were watching him later in the day. He really hasn't added much to KTTV but that's not his fault, it is management's. He's on the wrong shift.1 point

Not sure if other LA stations were clamoring, but it is no secret that KTTV has languished in the mornings for years. To take a popular talent from their direct competition (KTLA) and bring them on to their morning show speaks to them trying to change their fortunes in the ratings department. Don't forget KTTV recently acquired Stu Mundel from KCBS/KCAL. Stu was their popular nightside chopper reporter known for his animated coverage of police pursuits. KTTV is making moves to be competitive. Not sure if KTLA wanted Michaela back. The morning A team they have now with Frank, Jessica, Mark and Sam works well for them. When Michaela left KTLA, I was one of the doubters on Jessica being able to fit the news anchor role well as she was previously the PM weather caster with the late Hal Fishman and then moved on to AM entertainment/features reporter. She has definitely earned my respect. She does a good job in the anchor seat.1 point
-
I don't follow LA too closely but am curious, in what way is this a "get" for KTTV? Because she was popular years ago at KTLA? Were other LA stations clamoring to hire her or was KTTV the only one interested? Was KTLA even interested in getting her back at all or have they "moved on"?1 point
-
I always thought Michaela was more at home on LA television than at a network. Good that she's returning to the local airwaves.1 point

Another MAJOR shift at Good Day LA -- https://tvnewscheck.com/article/more-news/253378/michaela-pereira-joins-kttvs-good-day-la/ Former HLN anchor (MichaeLA!) and KTLA anchor Michaela Pereira joins Fox 11 and will anchor from 7-10AM WITH Tony and Araksya Araksya also becomes anchor from 5-7AM (Presumably with Dan? The article doesn't mention.) Rita becomes solo anchor from 4-5AM and will do live features throughout the rest So thoughts: I don't get the part about Araksya now joining the 7-10 hour, along with the new 5-7 responsibility This is a demotion for Rita Still not sure if Dan is staying or out They let Julie Chang go earlier this year and if Rita becomes the "live segments" reporter, where does this really leave Vanessa?1 point

When Rick was moved to weekday evenings after Stu came onboard, I always felt like that meant Pablo would become dead man walking because there'd be no other slot for him (since there's no weekend mornings to justify five WXers). Unfortunate that his departure was very unceremonious, but we knew Fox was busy making cuts where they could.1 point
