Or better yet, shake down mission broadcasting & force mission into being it's own company (it will never happen), prohibit Nexstar from doing ANYTHING for Mission stations nationwide (Websites, ad sales, ect). I'm happy that the FCC is finally taking some action against Nexstar & Mission. I would imagine that if that is the case, it would be in the purchase contract from Scripps. Scripps control of WPIX was always intended to be temporary until Nexstar found a way to purchase the station, directly or through its Mission beard. That is how the original contract was, that Nexstar could buy the station from Scripps. Not sure why Scripps agreed to being a short term caretaker but they did. Whether they maintained a right of first refusal should the station become available again is in the contract details which most of us probably are not privy too. The first question, after Nexstar exhausts any/all available appeals, is are they willing to part with the number of stations required to purchase WPIX directly? I would think many of the stations in smaller markets are direct/indirect duopolies (or more) and is Nexstar willing to give them up? and who could buy them? Sinclair and most likely Gray are probably in the same boat edging close to the cap (including the long obsolete UHF discount) considering WPIX is a DMA 1 station broadcasting on the VHF band. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11654-wpix-pix11-news/page/62/#findComment-296252 Share on other sites

I think this would put former FOX O&Os in play. KDVR and KTVI, especially. KWGN and KPLR can be run through LMA by Fox, since they rely on the same news department and would satisfy a non-beard spin off. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11654-wpix-pix11-news/page/62/#findComment-296328 Share on other sites

That seems unlikely given the cost of living in Denver. Why wouldn't Fox continue an JSA/LMA? NYNewsCoverage 300
Due to a mets game airing in San Francisco from 9:30-12:30, there is no late edition of news scheduled for after the game. I think this has happened before on WNYW where they didn't air news after very late games ending after midnight? It was a regular game on a Tuesday night those who stayed up probably went to bed and weren’t going to stay up to watch the news. If I remember correctly I think it was like 11-11:30 where WNYW skipped the newscast Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11654-wpix-pix11-news/page/62/#findComment-296734 Share on other sites

Still early in the season, fans of all teams (almost all teams) are still excited and engaged even if their team has a crappy outlook for the next few months. Play into the excitement, the eyeballs and the ad revenue. Mr. G. can record a forecast for the website for the people who really don't know how to find a newscast somewhere on their TV. MediaZone4K 2176
In situations like these, I'm a big advocate of pre-recording the newscast and airing it after the game, instead of keeping the talent around to go live after the game. I don't think the audience cares whether or not the newscast was recorded live (in that instance). Not so much anymore. And they are now pushing News12 streaming, which is only NY news. I would imagine the conditions are similar in Jersey, pushing people out the door. I've been told by some Nexstar employee friends that there is MMJing at PIX 11, which could be a contributing factor to turnover. MisterBill 99
PIX11 news went on right after the Mets game ended at ~4:50pm on Sunday. Kaity came on, but announced that they were switching to NewsNation for coverage of the Biden news. Not clear if they ever went back to local because I'd had enough of them after five minutes, but she was on at 10 with local news. I know that NN was still on at 6pm when The Broadway Show was supposed to air. NYNewsCoverage 300
I think* this marks the first time WPIX ever simulcasted News Nation, but I think it was definitely the right move (why scramble for local coverage when the national team is doing it fine?). They also did well at 10pm by having Dan not as co-anchor but as contributor to handle live interviews. They’ll probably do special reports or special presentations and I’ll be just for the Nexstar’s CW stations and network wide. PIX11 essentially did that by tossing to their coverage during the news Biden is stepping down. I wonder on election night or the inauguration if they’ll take that same route without having to produce their own coverage. I know CW simulcasted their presidential debate earlier this year, so there definitely trying it out.
